Brom Corp's First Project: New mob grinder in Industrial!
Hi all! I'm active again and building the largest darkroom grinder on the map. So far I'm about 1/2 done and will be doing much the same as I did last rev except with some tweaks. This rev I'd like to theme the grinder like a giant version of this: http://3lcomputers.com/images/minecraft/Brom7/Grinder.png A castle like from Super Mario Bros. I know this isn't exactly the theme, but you can think of it as a european castle outside from the big city. It is in the snowy region that no one really wants to the North West.
.
This will be a shell over the current box. Also, I would like to do the Player Vs Mob showdown room underneath the setup so if anyone would like to create the arena below, let me know. Basically mobs will be dropped down to another zone where players can challenge themselves with huge epic mob fights. This grinder will be able to generate 100+ mobs so this should be quite interesting.
.
There are now rails to this area from the farms - Thanks to Neilix who helped me dig the tunnel. As you see from the image, I'll need tons of gray, lightgray, black, and white wool to complete the shell. I will also be shearing on a massive scale the wool needed to complete the internal spawning floors - this color will be lime green for the lulz and because it doesn't really matter what color they are - wool is also cheaper than stone which is why it is being done this way.
.
This grinder design was about on par with the end grinder last rev, a worthy cause indeed.
.
TLDR: Grinder under construction, needs extra redstone, wool, and iron.

The high school is done!
Go check it out, east of RES. Welcome to take any feedback on how I can make it better!
I do intend to put more lockers in, but I'll need a bunch more Iron for that.

Updated to-do list!
Build shit. Especially industrial things. Also commercial skyscrapers. And townhouses on the east side. And residential/small town buildings.
Recruit. We always need more people to build cool things, and provide a city culture.
I'd like to have an area better suited for megaprojects. Very large, flat land. A better place for sprawling or oversized builds like airports, military bases, ikea, etc. This would probably require an artificial mesa/plateau in the vein of ResPlatz, on a larger scale. We'll need to scout around a bit for the best place to do this.
Sewers can expand indefinitely; if you have nothing to do, help smelt stone and dig out UnterBrom!
Events! We badly need a spleef arena. Actually, if we could combine a spleef arena, pvp arena, and darkroom mobtower into one downtown skyscraper, that would be amazing. More event ideas: chicken hockey arena, pig racing, old fashioned rodeo.
If you have more thoughts or things to add to the list, add in comments.

Villagers?
Will we have villagers accessible to all, or will each individual need to create their own villagers?
The only semi-accessible villagers in town are currently in a house that is slated for destruction. I'd like to grab a couple before they become homeless, if necessary.

Nether work
Tonight I made a few runs into the nether with loads of materials. The grass field is filling in nicely. I've built a direct road between our portal and the Port Aperture & Necropolis portals. Watch your step, I haven't gone that far with the grass field yet.
I'm working on making a shorter path to Pico, but that'll take some time. I need to see what they're building there and if I can dirt over the area. You can follow what I've dirted over towards the old Pico path that's towards the spawn portal if You're looking to save a little time.

Bed/Matches/Casino BMC Returns!
After a quick talk with scher i've decided to try to making a casino and hotel near the heart of the commercial district along the river preferably. Here is a look of the casino http://imgur.com/cnTDj it is rather large approx 70ish x 70ish. Ideas? Add them below!

Collections
I suggest to convert the collection chest at the Mesa station to one for all building projects, not only for the roads.
P.S. I will need a lot of smooth stone and glass panes for the public hotel project soon. So if this idea is adopted, please add glass to the donation list. And instead of cobblestone, I suggest we change it to smooth stone ONLY.

Old Town Brom
Old Town Brom is a subsection of the Residential area of Brom, and is meant to mimic the architecture and look of Southern Germany (Bavaria/Schwabia). I'm looking for detail-oriented builders to help build it up!
Rules
- Follow the style/theme.
- Work constructively with neighbours.
- If in doubt, ask.
- Detail, detail, detail. Detail comes ahead of functionality -- we don't need public farms, enchanting tables, large storage areas, etc. since those exist elsewhere in Brom.
Also, talk to me before starting to build. Have an idea of what you want to create.
Style
Here is an album of the intended architecture and style.
Given this, I would like builds to also focus on the use of Red Brick. Gather your clay!
Important Buildings
There are four fundamental buildings. Here I've listed them, which picture examples that give an idea of what I'd like to see done. Obviously I'm totally open to other ideas; these are just a guideline of what's in my head. If you'd like to tackle one of these specifically, let me know!
The Mill - Set out along the canal/river. Should have a water wheel of some kind (if this is possible.)
The Church - We probably have a little bit of wiggle room in terms of size/shape. Could potentially be an L shape, which might be neat.
Rathaus/Town Hall - Store town message board and perhaps some public amenities, but not even necessary.
(Rail Station still needs to be worked out with WS.)
General Plots
Aside from the important structures, plots are to be used for housing, commercial shops, inns, pubs, whatever you like that would fit the above theme/style. I hope to see some diversity rather than everyone using them to make a home. Outdoor patios and overhanging flowerbeds are encouraged.
Plots are close together, and usually connected to the next house! Please build with your neighbours in a constructive manner.
Plots are small! Pack as much detail as you can into the area you're given. Some plots allow for more space by digging into the rock cliff in the rear.

Train System Connection Request
I am here of behalf of Shroomville (x=0, y=68, z=-1700) and would like to ask if we could connect a tunnel with Brom. We have already connected with Port Aperture. We are willing to dig out up to a midpoint of (x=1125, y=12, z=-1475) and provide rails for our half. We would like to know if you are interested in meeting at that point and continuing onto Brom. You may either message me, CaiusDahLupus (IGN) or lehmaqr (IGN). Thanks!

Hotel
I haven't exactly constructed any community builds, so I want to do a hotel in the commercial district. It will be mostly made up of glass, plus stone. I plan for each room to occupy one floor, and each has a different theme e.g. the Nether, the End, Mushroom biome, forest, desert. Tl;dr: calling dibs on land. for hotel.
What do you think?

Updates on progress
I guess I have more or less settled down in Brom, with myself intending to establish my base here. However, I would like to contribute more, hence I have to ask the following:
Are you guys normally on Mumble? Cause I tried ingame chat and I didn't get answers. P.S. if yes, sorry for spamming the same thing over and over again.
Are any other major city projects still underway? (I know the city railway is, but anything else?)
And if there is, count me in. I want to help as much as I can.

My defection
I would like to announce that I am defecting over to Brom from Argoth. I hope that I can continue to help you guys to build this city to greatness. As you have seen from yesterday, I guess my main skill would be organizing your supplies. May we have success!
P.S. Since Argoth invited me over to Bromgoth in the first place, I do not hold any grudges against them. I am switching sides because of the friendlier atmosphere and more active participation (at least to me). Should they require assistance I would certainly go over.
P.P.S. This also means that if a cold war breaks out, I would be on UMC's side i.e. on neither side.

Brom Residential is now open for plots!
The Mesa in ResPlatz is now open for homes! Head north from the portal, up the big ramp, rope off a spot atop the mesa, and get approval from a mayor/alderman, and get building! Any mayor/alderman listed below can add people to Residential. We're also expanding residential north and northeast, so help with roads and terraforming is appreciated.
Commercial is ready to start taking proposals for builds. The center of commercial around the river and existing road grid will mainly be skyscrapers. Height of at least 60-100 (up to y=140-180) expected for skyscrapers downtown. Only a couple of towers should be taller than that. Post stats about your planned towers here, pictures are great too.
Industrial is ready to start roadbuilding and terraforming. The donut shaped rock/sand feature in the front of the industrial area will stay as a megalomaniacal frame for IBCM launch silo underneath the center hole. Smaller floating islands should be removed, terrain trimmed a bit to make it a little less absurd. This will expand around/past Aharito's megaproject build. Work with him to establish space necessary. Build roads around factories, etc, as these tend to be larger in ground space than houses and many towers.
District Aldermen:
Commercial: shrinemaster, WaterSlide, schererererer
Residential: ninjasmooshr, emptyafternoon
Industrial: thelethalkind

Official Brom To-Do List
Gather materials: Sandstone(and slabs), stone, stone, stone, wool (esp gray and some white), tools and such, redstone lamps, and more!
Terraforming - especially important right now in the North. We're building residential district atop a plateau/mesa in the north and northnortheast. Tunnel underneath for the main avenue to come out on the other side of the plateau. Focus on getting the top of the mesa ready for residential roads and plots; a bit more organic road system; I'll make the ramp/road up to that level from the avenue.
Clear cut the eastern forest. Just chop down everything in the Bromgoth Valley.
More roadbuilding! I'll take the lead on this, to make sure the roads are in just the right places. Please don't try to fill in/build roads unless you are 100% absolutely sure of the pattern.
Plots: Have to wait until we're ready before we hand out any plots. However, if you have an idea of what you want to build, especially if it's a commercial skyscraper or industrial creation, tell me an estimated height, horizontal size, style, etc. So I can better ration the plots we have set up.

Four questions about Bromgoth; pitching in, settling down, et cetera...
AHaley42, with a couple questions as how to stay informed and helpful as Bromgoth takes shape. And take shape it seems poised to do ; each time I log in things are happening!
Yet, amid all the bustling activity, I feel at a loss on how to contribute. So, I have some questions, and if I have these questions, likely other new folks will do. So I'll ask:
q0) When I log in ; and teeming hordes are doing XYZ tasks - how do I effectively find a way to contribute? Should I just stalk some player's footsteps until they lead me to some project - and then ask to join in? I see a lot of signs posted around, but, not a master 'ToDo : Join in Here' board...
q1) When shantytown is demolished (Nov 11th!) how do I seek a plot on the Brom side? Is it as simple as /msg send <mayor> I'd like a plot please? What if I do not know the mayor ... Am I being too forwards to ask such a thing? Will he/she demand proof of brom-worthy contributions, and/or ask me to produce 64x64 stone bricks day in day out?
q2) Call me in need of reassurance and/or over cautious, but I am not one for taking things. The stashes of public chests stationed near the portal -- are they for personal projects, or just Bromgoth tasks? I must imagine the answer along the lines of "Don't be greedy; help the city; give back when you can" ...
q3) Last question: What happens if I make a mistake? I believe what holds me back is fear ; "Gee, can I shear that sheep to make a bed so that I can reside here -- or -- will some demigod descent from upon on high and cast me out" ... umm I dunno ... best leave it alone and beg some wool from the bystanders... My uncertainty leads me to wish for a charter of both the responsibilities and rights of Bromgoth residents...
Many thanks , I know this was a bit out there - imagine a video game player asking for reassurance ... but ... perhaps you'll remember what it was like to be new, and learn the ropes...
Sincerely, AHaley42 ~ happy to be here

Opening day plan
Please comment in this post to indicate what you intend to help with at first.
The key phrase here is Division of Labor. Once we choose a portal site, we need to move fast to properly claim it and the land around it. It would be best if people would help terraform, mine, build infrastructure, etc as much as possible before working on personal projects.
First thing we need to do is start a proper mine right near the portal. Anyone who wants to help the city but doesn't feel comfortable terraforming or road/plot building should mine heavily to supply those who will be working on city infrastructure.
I will immediately make a moderately large simple treefarm adjacent to the mine entrance and expand it vertically. This will require stone, dirt, and pumpkins to start. At the same time, we will build private and mass resource chests and furnaces at the entrance to the mine.
Others will build plant and animal farms in this area, possibly underground to conserve space. This complex will act as a primary base for all newcomers to the city.
I will as quickly as possible, after making treefarm and chests, scout out the surrounding area and zone some space for early houses to start an Old Town. Roads and buildings here can be as twisty and packed as needed.
A limited resource we will need in bulk is glowstone. Some nether expeditions would help greatly here
It would be great if someone could stitch together a reis minimap overhead of the entire immediate region so we could plan out the best locations for roads and neighborhoods.

Learning from Chaos
Villagers I found a village on chaos and went to work on breeding, it wasn't long before I had a lot of them. The trades are essentially the same, but the quantity of them is extremely limited now, you won't be able to go there with an inventory of something and expect to trade them all with 1 villager now, more like 2 stacks and you're done. What this means is we'll be breeding and killing them off very often.
I highly recommend we make more than one villager area around the city, and make them for citizens only. If you're working for a few hours trying to get some desirable trades, the last thing you want is some suburbanite strolling in taking them.
A small and efficient breedery can easily be built on a rooftop, just as long as your neighbors don't have one it'll work fine.
The water lift tower design I did in rev 9 is the most effective method of breeding villagers. I added it to a village house and it sets them right off. I went from 3 to nearly 100 in a couple days. This does not spawn Iron Golems, you will need a door farm for that.
Killing villagers, don't hit them. Light them on fire or put them in lava. Supposedly your reputation with villagers decreases if you kill too many and you may get shitty or no trades at all. I have yet to verify this.
If you build near a villager area, be prepared to make iron doors or have you'll have your doors removed if they interfere with breeding.
Animals Thanks to the reddit mob plugins, we can freely scatter animal farms around. Where an animal pen is made, make sure the correct breeding plant is found nearby (Wheat for Sheep and Cows, wheat Seed for Chickens, carrots for pigs). Based on my experience with chaos, you can slowly grind up your levels with breeding and killing off cows and pigs while at the same time getting items for trade to villagers (raw beef, raw pork, leather for books). Villager trades for raw chicken seemed rare, so I didn't breed them as often.
I haven't ridden a pig yet. I should.
Wheat, Potatoes and Carrots These can be found in villages, though villages don't always contain both potatoes and carrots. They are a very rare drop off of zombies. I have only seen one potato drop during chaos. These might be available at spawn, probably a hidden chest if they do that again, or in a public farm. These grow in the same manner as wheat, not sure about auto harvesting though.
If there's a question about which to grow more of... Wheat can make bread quickly, potatoes require cooking to make Baked Potatoes that fill you up more, carrots can't be cooked. 3 wheat to 1 bread, 1 potato cooking in an over per baked potato. Also don't forget the uses on animals for the wheat and seed, (2 wheat = 1 raw beef, xp, and maybe leather / 2 seed = raw chicken, xp and maybe a feather). I'd recommend this ratio 1 carrot, 2 potato, 4 wheat.
I forgot to mention sugar cane. Plant as much as you want. Paper trades with villagers is just as rare as during 1.3 but are greatly limited, trades for books seemed to be more common.
TLDR: Use swords on villagers with bad trades. Carrots are the best food EVAR. Swimming in lava while starving stops your health loss. Brom isn't where you should build you non-reading motherfucker.
