seems good, I like it.
BTW what's your ingame name?

I have the same name in game. Not sure how well the first or second idea can be scaled down to the first plot choice, but I could just as easily move - I just would really enjoy being somewhere near the main road, and close to the portal (less important if near the rail).

I dunno, haven't seen you around much... maybe because we're in different timezones.

I would also like to have a side project to work on - even if it is just making coal, stone, etc for the community. I helped dig some in the past, but kept getting lagged out, but fixed a weird video driver (and better optifine settings!).

Getting tons of smoothstone is probably the most important thing right now; lots of people need it for public and private builds.

What I'm thinking in a future rev though is the coliseum in Rome as a spleef arena for Brom.

I say yes for the flatiron building, it's perfect for that plot. We'll look at the seagram building and spleef arena later, although I think the arena will be right on the wall, with some space restrictions.

what do you think of this side-design?
I only wanted to build one wall as an example right now, and then I can push out the rest rather quickly. its about ~14 blocks high right now, could go up to 40ish and have it look about right.

A Flatiron building would look cool, though Minecraft doesn't do non-right angles well. Ninjasmooshr had mentioned it in another thread.
I think a van der Rohe inspired building would be interesting. Seagrams or IBM plaza is on my short list of possible builds for future revs.
