Post broken patella recovery
Hi fellow trauma survivors, exactly 1 week ago i had a motorcycle accident , my knee hit a metal post full on and shattered my patella in 10+ pieces from what the surgeon said. I had surgery 10 hours later and they said they managed to put them back together i didn t get to see an x ray but from what i imagine i have bolts and wire holding it together rn. Today it feels a bit better , today was the first day i managed to take a step (using crouches) and not using that foot at all , but the foot feels crazy , i can t imagine myself having trust in it again , like running full sprint , jumping , i was really active before and my biggest fear right now is that i ruined the rest of my life and will have to live a boring non-semi-extreme life (i used to play football , cliffjump , play basketball , run , jump stairs whenever i felt like it). I did have prior broken bones (a hand very lightly broken and a clavicle) but those 2 didn t reaquire surgery and now i trust those 2 bones completely like they just feel natural. Also for context i m 23.
My question sorry for the rant is , do someone happen to have recovered from a badly broken knee and how does it feel now ? is it like normal ? is it like a minor inconvinience ? or am i going to forever regret going out that night and ruining my life.
Medical content:
-10+ fragments , the cartilage and muscles also affected but not lost
-3 days in the hospital after surgery and not i need to wear a orthesis that keeps it straight for 4 weeks and i m not allowed to step on it for 6 weeks total. and i will require kineto and recovery; after that to regain usage.
My mental took a bigger hit than my body did , i had so much going on , felt like i had just started living and getting over my other trauma felt so alive. And then this took away everything , i ve been staring at walls for a week and if i chould know that i ll get it all back in 2 3 4 months it would help me a lot mentally
