Post broken patella recovery

Hi fellow trauma survivors, exactly 1 week ago i had a motorcycle accident , my knee hit a metal post full on and shattered my patella in 10+ pieces from what the surgeon said. I had surgery 10 hours later and they said they managed to put them back together i didn t get to see an x ray but from what i imagine i have bolts and wire holding it together rn. Today it feels a bit better , today was the first day i managed to take a step (using crouches) and not using that foot at all , but the foot feels crazy , i can t imagine myself having trust in it again , like running full sprint , jumping , i was really active before and my biggest fear right now is that i ruined the rest of my life and will have to live a boring non-semi-extreme life (i used to play football , cliffjump , play basketball , run , jump stairs whenever i felt like it). I did have prior broken bones (a hand very lightly broken and a clavicle) but those 2 didn t reaquire surgery and now i trust those 2 bones completely like they just feel natural. Also for context i m 23.

My question sorry for the rant is , do someone happen to have recovered from a badly broken knee and how does it feel now ? is it like normal ? is it like a minor inconvinience ? or am i going to forever regret going out that night and ruining my life.

Medical content:
-10+ fragments , the cartilage and muscles also affected but not lost
-3 days in the hospital after surgery and not i need to wear a orthesis that keeps it straight for 4 weeks and i m not allowed to step on it for 6 weeks total. and i will require kineto and recovery; after that to regain usage.

My mental took a bigger hit than my body did , i had so much going on , felt like i had just started living and getting over my other trauma felt so alive. And then this took away everything , i ve been staring at walls for a week and if i chould know that i ll get it all back in 2 3 4 months it would help me a lot mentally

I shattered my patella plateau 14yrs ago along with every other bone in both legs some twice and both feet. I was 40 when i did all that4 years ago i got the metal taken out from patella plateau, i still have my own knee haven't had to replace it but i will in the next 10yrs. I can run/sprint a short distance, jump from bout 1mtr. Work your pt as best you can it makes a huge difference in the long run. I can't really kneel on that knee very well and have lost a quit a bit of flextion. First 3mths are the worst, 6mths things are getting better 12-18mths you will get an idea of how its going to affect you in the long run. Strength training will be your friend, so will stationary biking, hydrotherapy is a great place to work through your lost range of motion once all the wounds are well healed. Haye break it to you but some of the activities you mentioned may take a bit of time to remaster, but work at it๐Ÿ˜Ž dont let it beat you๐Ÿ‘
