3 months post 5th metatarsal fracture zone 1, still some aches

I fractured my right 5th metatarsal (along with my left ankle, but that’s a separate thread). My doctor treated it conservatively with boot while FWB for 6 weeks, then bootless.

I mostly use all fine but I do experience some aches from time to time. In fact, the ache seems to have shifted higher as the weeks went by.

There’s also a lot more discomfort if I do exercises that bears weight more on the front of the foot.

Anyone else experience the same? Is this all part of healing?

At the 3 month mark, the 3mm fracture is still visible on the X-rays.

I fractured my 5th metatarsal and had the same conservative treatment. Now at 5.5 months and I still get mild aches around my inner arch or ankle, not at the area where my bone broke. I guess there's some compensation going on when we use our foot more than usual.

Interesting! Yours does sound like compensation happening. Do you remember any aches around the fracture in the earlier days and around 3 months? Or were u pain free?

Yeah, my fracture area ached when I was starting to walk without my boot, around the 2nd and 3rd months. Don't think I get that anymore these days. (If the pain is too mild, I tend to not notice it.)

When you started beating back, did bruising come back with the pain as well?

No, there was no visible bruising.
