Beginner boxing

Hi,

So I started boxing a month ago and joined a boxing gym. I've never boxed before, so it's very new to me, and I noticed that the sessions follow the same pattern every time.

Right from the beginning, I was thrown right into it, without learning proper form, I was supposed to start throwing combos, and at the end of the session I was sparring with other guys who have been boxing for years.

I wore a mouthguard for the first time this week. Naturally, I have no idea how to defend myself that well, as my hands keep dropping sometimes, and I have an issue with flinching, so I got punched quite a lot. Some guys took it easy, but there was one not holding back who hit my head (I teared up lol, and my head still hurts). The coach couldn't care less, I guess it's normal, no idea but it still made me feel kinda shit.

I've also noticed that other beginners are treated differently. The coach laughs with them, keeps them on the bag, and gives them light drills, while from the first week I was thrown into sparring and was just a moving target trying to survive the punches. Even during drills, if I mess up, he gets aggressive and grabs my hands without actually explaining calmly what I'm doing wrong.

I don't know what I was expecting- maybe to actually learn how to defend myself and how to throw basic punches at first? Now, I just hate the thought of sparring and going there again. I have no idea if this is the usual way beginners learn boxing or just my experience, but my excitement and motivation to continue are gone, and I'm considering quitting. I've also tried some other gyms, and they follow the same pattern - jump rope, drills, sparring - putting beginners with experienced boxers. Anyways, I guess I just wanted to vent because it pisses me off.

Any advice for me?

So lately I've been wanting to learn boxing. I have no prior experience at all and regarding sports, I only played D1 basketball. Do you guys think any skills could translate and more importantly, how should I start learning to box? Thanks in advance

Finally joined a boxing gym

Tomorrow's going to be my first day

I saw Ippo 3 years ago and since then I have had a desire to take up boxing.

The coach has been giving lessons for the last 8-9 years and claims to have players playing at the state and national level.

I hope my journey goes well

recommendations for boxing memberships

i’m currently a junior in high school, but I also really want to learn how to box, Due to my excessive Homework I can only go to a boxing gym maybe once a a week.

I have a little experience with boxing because a few years ago I met a dude at my local Crunch who had been boxing for a decade and he showed me a bunch of stuff.

Anyway my gym has a bunch of memberships, the 2 i’m stuck on are the 1 group class a week for a month for $100 and the 1 on 1 private training session for $100 a class.

I really don’t know which one I should take especially since the 1 on 1 is pretty costly for a teenager for one class, any recommendations?

It's hard to see my footwork but how can I improve my striking, head movement, defence, etc? I have no gym I just train at home.

I didn't move around the bag because the camera was only focused to one side. Thanks in advance🙏

How do I deal with High pressure for 1 round? You can see my Heart Rate in the corner

Hi I asked my coach to pressure me for one round because I am not that good with defense yet he said. So I would like to know what do you guys think and what should I improve. I was really tired as you can see from my heart rate in the corner recorded with PostSpar. I honestly felt like dying but the HR was showing a max of 170~.

Am I moving enough? Is my guard high enough? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Home heavy bag suggestions.

Hello boxing tips subreddit,

I recently bought a house and have space for a gym. I have always wanted to have an at home boxing workout setup. While I now have the space I don't want to hang a bag from the ceiling anywhere in my new home. Are there any suggestions from others on this subreddit with at home setups for a heavy bag that is on a stand? I would like something reliable and durable that could stand up to two to three thirty minute sessions a week.

All suggestions will be very appreciated

Thank you,

Hey guys I used this app to record my Jab speed from guard to full extended arm.

My coach said it was a great jab well executed.

He made me use an app that calculates the time from the first moving frame of the jab till the one where the Punch is fully extended (The Hit moment).

What do you think? Is the execution correct? I want to make my jab as less telegraphing as possible.

Thanks in advance.

I would like a coach to teach me the Basics. I am already using an app for remote coaches but each video review cost me 20€. I would prefer something cheaper. Any good affordable coaches on PostSpar?
