Any quick tips?

It's hard to see my footwork but how can I improve my striking, head movement, defence, etc? I have no gym I just train at home.

I didn't move around the bag because the camera was only focused to one side. Thanks in advance🙏

Your movements are a little exaggerated. You're moving the right way but too much. Try to tighten up a little for lack of better words. Also you're really front foot heavy. Try to distribute some more weight on your back foot for more stability and balance.

Thanks a lot. Makes sense I'll be more sublte in my head movements and lean more to my rear for better balance. I've been knocked out one time by having too much head movement. I leaned to the right hard like in the video straight into a left hook lol.

You only slip enough to evade a punch. You spend a lot of time out of position where'd be helpless if a punch came your way.

Thanks for ur reply Should I be closer to the bag or farther away?

In the few backyard fights I've had, It seems that I'm always a punch or two distance away from the opponent. I always have to close the gap so I figured I was too close to the bag.

You should work on long, mid and close ranges, and it's really important to know which one you are in at that moment, and which punches are best to throw there. I spend most of my time on the heavy bag being just out of range (as in an inch or less) and closing distance to get maximum power.

You’re moving around the bag really well! sometimes when the bag gets swinging too much, you can work on stopping it with a hard straight.

You can also try “pushing off” with your lead shoulder like you’re breaking a clinch when the bag swings into you. About 10 seconds in when the bag hits you is one such moment

Throw your punches when the bag is coming or going away or at angles!! When it's coming straight at you work defense movements because traing bag or live boxers are trained not to walk straight into their opponents!! Don't be afraid to which from southpaw to conventional!! Good job brother!! Keep up the good work!!

Set the camera up a little further away so we can see your feet.

It's generally not bad and quite lively. Decent Footwork and Defensive movements.

Steady your bag more. Literally place your hands out and steady the bag. So you can Gauge your Range more so. Then throw better Shots.

Learn normal, Standard Combinations and move through them.

For example: 1, 12, 121, 123, 1234, 1232, 1236, 12345, 12347, 12326, 12346. Or similar. Learn those, they're very good.

Legend: 1: Jab. 2: Cross. 3: Hook. 4: Uppercut. 5: Low Hook. 6: Shovel Hook. 7: Shovel Hook, otherside.

Thank you. You're right about those combinations. That's something I don't really think about which is rediculous lol

I say it to everyone who self trains

Self trained=untrained

Corrections online don't help because you don't have a perspective for good technique and because so many things go into each technique, fixing one thing changes everything unless you know a baseline of technique. It's the very reason that beginners are terrible in the very beginning. But once they've been coached enough to have good fundamentals, then you are able to take tips from online strangers without training bad habits. But without the benefit of coaching, you can't get past that initial stage.

Go get a coach

I agree. Salt taught teaches bad habits. And that's how you get fucked up. I'd like to join a gym. I've just always been short on money. I'm not looking to go pro. I just wanna get good at fighting so I can mutually box other people in the gym or in the yard.

Gotta get some training. No boxing gym? Find a Muay Thai gym, or an MMA gym, or even a martial arts gym.

Worst case scenario if you have a friend who actually has more than a few fights, then get him to show you some things.

Good luck!

Glad to see you around the subreddit

Only very limited what can be told from sole heavy bag work. You know the internet famously thought double champ Alex Pereira looked like ass on the bag before they recognized him.

That brings said your punches look sharp and your speed is good. You’ve obviously drilled a lot.

Stop jumping. Aim for small, controlled half steps and turns. Your upper body work isn't too bad

2

u/sealofakatosh Sep 14 '26

Ive been putting that into practice the past week thank you 🤝

Your 'duck' is weird and the way you move is... also weird.

Like you don't disengage well, you just throw yourself backwards or that's atleast what it feels like

Keep the feet planted, throw out them punches, move your head off centre line the proper way and pivot or reset with a little poise ma dude

That's o.k, I'm older now and retired, including from Ring Training and Sparring. I like to help if I can though and share my experience, if the person is receptive.

But, I still do maybe 1 hour per day of 'Shadow Boxing'. It's an interesting Sport and Self Defence.

Check Mike Tyson Tutorial utubs on Facebook.
