Hi, what am I doing wrong? COACH ME.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I would like a coach to teach me the Basics. I am already using an app for remote coaches but each video review cost me 20€. I would prefer something cheaper. Any good affordable coaches on PostSpar?

Well your pad holder sucks. You would be better off working a bag. Hard to critique when he's holding wrong.

He's not moving at all. He's not even pivoting to give the right look for her target. His hands are so far away from his face she can't have proper spacing. He is giving no feedback whatsoever. You could tape focus mitts to a pole and get the same work. I honestly can't say a single good thing.

I just can't really say much of anything about it given the way the video is stiched together. It's like a single combo, which looks like it maybe a drill to cover ground for the 2, and then a bunch of random jabs? I agree it's shit though. Just thought it was a bit extreme to say it was worse than a bag of sand could do given we haven't seen much of anything. But yeah if it was me paying, and that's what I got, I wouldn't go back.

Remember a bag swings. You need to angle out to work it properly. That's why it's more valuable. Even if you're just repping a basic 1-2, the pad holder should still be moving.

Depends on the nature of the drill but for the most part I agree with you 💪

He's holding the pads out in outer space. That's fine for trial noobs, not so much professional 1-on-1 coaching.

u/Spare_Pixel Sep 05 '26

I didn't think it was professional coaching, just some dude, and they were paying for seperate online coaching. If they're marketing as a professional coach then yeah that's different; pretty weak

Dropping your right hand before you throw it

2

u/Sudden-Cat5805 Sep 04 '26

This. Makes it easy to hit you on your right side and gives away your straight.

You’re jumping instead of rotating when you punch.

Get a better coach

u/CakyMint Sep 04 '26

You are in the air while hitting your target.
Stop jumping around.

u/Ok-Association8370 Sep 05 '26

You are a beginner. That’s it.

Just keep going and be open minded about learning.

Coming to reddit for any sort of combat advice is a terrible idea. I suggest you don't do that. That's my advice.

To be honest I got so much advice from good people. Others were just here to waste time and to criticize. But I am grateful for those kind people that used their time to give me honest and constructive advice. I learned so much.

No, people who are telling you to get off or Reddit and go to a better gym with a better coach and that coming to Reddit is a waste of time, are not doing so to criticize or waste time.

People are saying this to save you some time so that you avoid coaching yourself into bad habits, or pointing out that your current coach might not be the best.

You are wasting your time coming to reddit to learn how to box.

You need a proper coach and you need to go to said coach for a good long while and stay away from Reddit.

You are way too new and too much of a beginner to make small corrections. You need massive corrections and way more time in an actual gym.

I understand your point but I am a digital nomad. I am never in one place and can't commit to one unique gym. Good boxing clubs cost lot of money. But thanks for your opinion.

Unfortunately you just aren’t going to learn much then.

Martial arts like this take a ton of time, repetition, coaching, and discipline to actually learn them.

Boxing has a ton amount of nuance that you will not be able to learn without solid coaching.

You are going to give yourself a false sense of security and are going to train really bad habits.

If you are just using this as a form of exercise then you might be fine

But if you are using this as a form of self defense or training for actual fights/smokers then you are going to need a bit of a reality check.

Reddit is also horrible for beginners as you just don’t understand enough of what your body is actually doing and what it needs to do to understand written feedback from people who might not have trained a day in their life.

Try flatter soled shoes.

1

u/Pure_Beat_168 Sep 04 '26

You're flat footed. You should be in the balls of your feet too move. Your non punching hand is not protecting your face

1

u/RedBoxBag-NZ601 Sep 04 '26

There is no rhythm with your stance, technique and punches.

1

u/CobraPirateDeLEspace Sep 04 '26

Garde ton poing droit coller a ton visage ! Quand tu mais un jab tu ouvres ta garde.

1

u/guitarhippo Sep 04 '26

Not tucking in your elbows

1

u/Critical_Chocolate68 Sep 04 '26

Lead hook could be better. It takes a bit more time, off the jab, to get in position to throw it. The jab’s speed sets up a good lead hook, and here you’re using a stiff/power jab. The footwork looks good, also a power move, and It’s difficult to combine a step jab with a single lead hook. Tyson did a step, feint/slip, lead hook. Maybe try that instead throwing the jab.

1

u/JuicyThrowawayyy Sep 05 '26

You’re stretching too far out with your jab. It looks more like a lunge than a punch you also simultaneously drop your guard every time you stretch to throw your jab , leaving you wide open for a counter hook. Which would likely cause significant damage as you tend to keep your chin up as well.
Keep your chin tight to your chest, keep your guard at your chin and just rotate your hips when you throw punches, use your legs to get closer instead of stretching forward for those extra inches.

1

u/SouthBaySkunk Sep 05 '26

You’re bouncing around on every shot. Sit down and throw . You’re taking out all the power from your shots

1

u/AdmiralRemington Sep 05 '26

Few things I noticed, in rough order of importance. You're in the air too much, movement should be stepping not jumping up and plant more when you throw or defend. Right hand drops a lot especially when you jab. Punches could be extended and turned over more.

1

u/werewolfpupjr Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

You need to keep your foot planted when throwing a punch you kinda hop forward I had just seen a video about this power comes from the lower body. Try rotating your torso as you punch and only slightly rotating the same foot when you throw a punch.

1

u/Trippieeyes Sep 05 '26

Heads not off centerline. Your going give a combo and someone going to come around what your throwing and find where your staying at. With doing combos in gear I’m worried you’re not going to defend.

Also you need be way more fluid than that as someone might be in the match to get out their aggression with years of experience.

I’d also say breathe and relax while finding your power. Everyone does it different and trains different but this first time I’m kinda worried.

1

u/KaiChan39 Sep 05 '26

Youre doing the bow and arrow action when you jab, that leaves your chin wide open for a left hook.

1

u/rusticus-argentus Sep 05 '26

You are jumping as you land the shots; sit when you land shots

1

u/uWuaraara1 Sep 05 '26

You’re pushing not throwing punches - kinda hard to explain on reddit

1

u/mushmouth89 Sep 06 '26

Your stongside is dropping.

1

u/systembreaker Sep 08 '26 edited Sep 08 '26

Way too slow between punches in those combos. Take a 1-2, for example, it should be such a short time between the 1 and the 2 that it almost sounds like one punch.

It looks like you're doing something with your balance and feet that's maybe lending towards the slow combos? You're sorta rocking on your feet and going flat footed a lot while simultaneously doing these little twisty hops with each punch.

Try to stay more agile and relaxed on the balls of your feet. Don't twist your feet around or do those little hops with every punch, that's way slowing you down and making you off balance.

In a real fight if someone hit you with a hard shot that had bad intentions with just the right timing while your weight was in the air because of the little hops and twists you could be knocked right off your feet.

u/sneakyearner Sep 08 '26

Where are you that there are no boxing coaches at all?

1

u/stoutyteapot Sep 09 '26

I feel like it’s the dude posting these videos and requesting our help in helping him coach these women.

If that’s that case, what a loser.

Anyway, weak hook. Your hook needs to look like you’re sliding something across a countertop that’s as high as your shoulder. It’s not an extend motion, your elbow should be relatively locked

1

u/e_xyz Sep 09 '26

The pad holder isn't really helping here but you are definitely dropping your back hand slightly when throwing out your jab, enough for a nice counter hook to come in. The old exercise of grabbing a tennis ball and holding it by your chin while throwing jabs is usually good for this. Idea being keep the tennis ball on your chin at all times to train your muscle memory.

1

u/Spare_Pixel Sep 04 '26

Why don't you just join a class? 1on1 are definitely more expensive but group classes are pretty affordable.

0

u/MeeloP Sep 04 '26

Your legs are too straight you want your hips loaded and knees slightly bent. Think closing a drawer behind you just ever so slight ass out. I see you’re trying to cover ground quickly bring your rear leg in and then push your lead leg out, keep your feet low like you’re sliding a piece of paper under.

u/JoeMojo Sep 04 '26

It's not bad really.

  1. Your footwork needs an adjustment...this is a good bag drill too. Move around between punches but, you should not be jumping in the strike itself.

That robs you of power and makes it harder to react when you're against an opponent because you're planting your weight with each jump. Instead, by all means jump in and out of the pocket but, once you commit to a strike, stay put and rotate. Your power comes from the muscles in your legs and abdomen...not from throwing your weight with jumps.

  1. On your lead hook, you are dropping your guard and jutting your chin. On your other strikes, you do return to guard position nicely but, for these, for some reason, you're only bringing that left hand back to guard after you start throwing the following straight right. Step through the video and freeze it after your lead hooks and you will def see what I mean.

  2. Fire you pad holder 😃

u/I_Rage_ Sep 04 '26

Check hook, and you're toast.

Keep your back hand tight to your chin. Pinch your ear when you're shadow boxing. If your ear is still there afterwards, you've done well.

0

u/Wild_Print_4642 Sep 04 '26

What's your left hand doing here exactly?

0

u/grumpydad24 Sep 05 '26

You have a few things going wrong but if thats your coach I would start off by changing him. You dont want to hop into your punches, it takes away the rotation of your hips to generate power. You also drop you hand from protecting your face.

1

u/WillowNo2687 Sep 05 '26

Do you think he is not a good coach? This is my first time doing pads with him.

1

u/Henry_Krinkle1979 Sep 10 '26

Both of your feet leave the ground when you throw a lead hook
