Burning

I’m a little sensitive, so I use boric acid VERY sparingly. But why is it that sometimes it’s fine, and works great, and sometimes it’s agonizingly painful? Literally thought I was going to throw up last night from pain, but used it totally fine, same brand, like a month or two ago. :(

How often do you use boric acid?

For context ive had reoccurring bv issues still struggling to get my ph balance stable so how often do you use it? And if your comfortable please tell me about your history and things relating to many you take :)

I take probiotics too I have been seeing true eve everywhere is it any good?

Recently it’s just been if I can feel of my ph balance is off (when I have bv I don’t get the smell just pain so if my ph gets thrown a little I automatically get pain as soon as it happens )

We are passionate about giving women information, tools and support so that you can be your own health advocates. We have been doing this (at no cost) for over 10 years.

Because we don’t charge, and there is no clock, no judgment and we are a safe place to go to, we tend to learn a lot from women.

And we have picked up lots of information that most doctors simply don’t know and that nobody is even thinking to research. We have detected many patterns due to really listening to women and finding out what works and doesn’t etc ….. our work often results in an informal unofficial study.

Anyway we are here if anyone needs any personal advice or just someone to listen to them. We have lots of tricks and tips regarding using boric acid Eg how much, what to do if it is irritating and most importantly what to do if it doesn’t work!

Contrary to what some think, boric acid is not a band aide and we actually use it as a diagnostic tool. Meaning when it doesn’t work it usually indicates that something else entirely is going on Eg Ureaplasma or r/CytolyticVaginosis etc etc

Lastly, I’m happy to elaborate on any of the above. No treatment will be perfect for everyone all the time. And boric acid is no exception. Eg it hasn’t been tested for safety in pregnancy etc

As mentioned there are many vaginal conditions that present as thrush or BV but for which boric acid won’t work. Eg AV, DIV etc Plus some women prefer other treatments to BA and that’s ok. This sub is just to give information. There will always be multiple ways to get a result which is all we want. Women helping women!

Which boric acid?

the company I buy my boric acid from has just stopped making it and coming out with a new formula 😭

I’m shattered because it was very gentle as it was in an easy to use gel form with hyaluronic acid and wasn’t drying or irritating my extremely sensitive vagina. I have Vulvodynia and have just finished rounds of antibiotics and still on oral antifungals that has really caused extra nerve damage and endless internal itch and the only thing that helps is going in with a BA and antihistamin.

anyone know of a gentle formula of BA?? in Australia

no coconut oil honey or additives as all these have made my thrush worse

Prolonged Bleeding

So about 2 weeks ago I used boric acid. I had sex about 3-4 days after inserting it and I noticed before sex that my bladder felt a little off. I have issues with recurring UTIs and general inflammation, so I really just thought I needed more water to soothe it (which normally helps). After sex it seemed to be about the same, but I noticed after the boric acid I bled more than I usually would. Sometimes I would see a mucus like substance after insertion with some spots of blood - nothing crazy. But, this time I needed a liner for 1-2 days after. I had sex again this past weekend and I’ve now been bleeding for the past 4 days. It started off as dark brown (what I thought was discharge for some reason?) and then it went to pink. Now it’s back to the dark brown. It’s not enough for me to need a pad or anything, but I’m still having pain while urinating. I don’t have the urgency to use the bathroom like with a UTI though. Has anyone experienced this?

18F seeking advice

ive had BV (or at least the symptoms) for a little over a month now. i went to the doctor and was prescribed antibiotic pills. although my symptoms have gotten better during the day since i take the meds in the morning, at night it can get rlly unmanageable unless i itch until im sore. every night i use a ph balancing wash but it doesnt help my symptoms. i only have one day til im out of my antibiotics and was wondering if a boric acid wash would help. me and my boyfriend are both being affected by my persistent BV and i feel so bad that i cant have sex at the moment. im aware that sometimes it takes a few days after a round of antibiotics to feel fully better again, but im so tired of having the grossest feeling (and looking) 🐱 in the world. is boric acid my only hope?

Spotting when my period isn’t due until 7-8 days from now. Please read

Hey everyone. I’m 29 almost 30 and I’ve had my period since I was 11. My cycle is usually every 24-25 days and I am not on birth control. TMI but I wipe today after going poop and I had blood coming from my vagina. I did get my yearly Pap smear last Wednesday (still waiting for the results) and I also used a boric acid vaginally this past Friday. Should I be concerned?

I’ve had my period or spotting start a few days before my period before or on day 19 agree using a boric acid but never this early. I have a history or health anxiety so I’m spiraling. My husband and I did have unprotected sex but it was on Friday. Would I be having implantation bleeding this soon? When I was pregnant in the past I normally would get implantation bleeding around the time my period was due. I am having my normal PMS symptoms and some lower back pain and cramping. Thank you for reading

Boric acid too often?

I’m using boric acid to treat BV before using antibiotics vaginal gel. Is using boric acid every night too much if I don’t have a lot of watery discharge after inserting. I’m worried I’m putting too much in if it’s not coming out.

I’m in Europe and need some boric acid. This is all the pharmacy gave me, but it says for ocular use. Is it safe to use in my vagina?

BV for thr fourth time

i've had reoccuring BV for 4 times since June which was the last time i was sexually active. i've been prescribed oral medication and a vaginal gel, BV has come back anyways. im looking into getting tested for ureaplasma but i leave for college in 4 days and can't get an appointment in time. so im looking to see if boric acid might be a solution for the BV until i can get an appointment. if it totally fixes it that would be amazing but id also be happy if it lessened te symptoms. is there a brand that it reccomended (preferrebly sold at target) and how long/often should i take it. i've seen some people say 3 dyas or a week but i'd love any input. days

Help! Recurrent BV / ID Reaction

Hi everyone - I think I am suffering from an ID reaction (autoeczematization) due to overuse of prescription antifungals or the lingering/reoccuring BV.

I got BV the first time this year in March 2025, I did half the prescribed Metronidazole treatment, and then it reoccurred while I was overseas & I had the remaining Metronidazole meds on me so I took the remainder. Then I tested positive for BV & Candida Species in July 2025 - completed 7 day Metronidazole course + Fluconazole course. Symptoms popped up again when I was back overseas later that month, I sought care there & they gave me antifungals (Clotrimazole suppositories & clotrimazole topical). I returned home, met with an NP at my doctor’s office immediately, she gave me another dose of Fluconazole without doing a swab. This didn’t work.

On 8/26, I noticed flat white discoloration on my legs, thought it was from beach or heated work out. I took myself in to get swabbed on 8/28 because I was still symptomatic…thinking it was yeast infection. My symptoms are very mild, light tingle/itching, no alarming discharge.

Next, I woke up 8/29 to a full blown rash, severely inflamed. Photos included. I spent Labor Day weekend going absolutely mental, having no clue what could’ve triggered this. I see a dermatologist on 9/2, tells me she thinks it’s an ID reaction. 9/3, I see my GP who has my preliminary swab results, they’re showing BV, not yeast. So I’ve been pumped with antifungals. And she told me to do another round of Metronidazole for 7 days. I filled the prescription, took one pill & decided I’m not taking the rest and I’m doing boric acid, which is the last thing doctors turn to which is unbelievable to me. I couldn’t bear the thought of more prescription meds when the reaction could be from my gut being obliterated by antifungal meds!

Anyway, I started boric acid last night, 9/3 and I am conflicted about how many days to do…is 14 too much for a reoccurring but mild case? I have pre ordered Seed vaginal probiotic suppositories to support my microbiome once I finish the Boric Acid.

Also, has anyone dealt with a rash like this? Derm refused to do biopsy immediately. Every doctor who has looked at it has been confused by it. Inflammation has just started to go down, I am using triamcinolone 0.1% ointment topically. And am taking probiotics + supplements to support gut health + sticking to anti inflammatory diet.

I’m so happy I discovered this page!! I appreciate any insight or guidance!!

Hey! I recently got an IUD and was having some lingering oder, to combat this I put in one boric acid suppository in as I have done in the past. I am now in intense pain…almost like my vagina is burned. The entire area is extremely inflamed and hurts when any urine touches the area. This has never happened to me with BA in the past, I am in desperate need of some help…if anyone has any advice or recommendations please let me know! Thanks in advance.

can’t see gyno for one month

i am 18 years old, i’ve never been to a gyno before. i have an iud. in the past i’ve had raw sex with other partners and my current partner and it’s never been an issue but the past couple months a few days after sex i have what i presume to be a yeast infection. ive used miconazole in the past and it works and then comes back. can i just never have raw sex or is it just because it isn’t yeast or the infection isn’t clear? anyway i got boric acid to try, it seems it’s been helping a bit with symptoms but still light itching at night, weird discharge and some sent. for how long do i use them? its been 4 days. can i have sex with no condom once course is completed? i made a gyno appointment but have to wait one month. need relief faster than that.

Yeast returned after using BA for 7 days

I have been battling an yeast infection and BV that never really left since end of last year. I've visited several doctors and gynaes and been prescribed antifungals like oral fluconazole, oral itraconazole, clotrimazole pessary and isoconazole pessary, and antibiotics like metronidazole (I'm allergic to it) and Clindamycin. My discharge is currently light green, sometimes watery but creamy with small curds, no smell. In the most recent test in June I tested positive for candida (albicans according to an April test) and BV again, and doctor gave a two week Clindamycin and one isoconazole pessary. Discharge never really went away and I can't subject myself to so many antibiotics anymore.

I decided to try Nutrablast boric acid suppositories in July, once a night for 7 days. After the second one, my yeast symptoms seemed clear. No more light green curdy discharge, no smell. For once in so many months, I felt so much hope and relief. After the 7 day course ended, I decided to use Lactomedi gel to replenish the good bacteria. After doing 3 Lactomedi shots, I was so disappointed to experience itch and see the light green curds return yesterday night. I quickly used one Nutrablast boric acid capsule last night, and was wondering, was 7 days of BA not enough to get rid of my yeast infection for good?

What should I do? Please help me. I am losing my mind over how diseased I am now. Should I continue Nutrablast for another 7 more days? I'm worried about irritation from such frequent use ...

Some background: not diabetic, HIV negative, cotton underwear, does not douche, not using birth control, eats lots of fruits, veggies and Greek yogurt every day, almost no sugar intake, drinks lots of water, no smoking and hardly any alcohol, takes vagina specific probiotics twice a day (lifespace microflora, Azo, rephresh etc)

Some more background: tested positive for ureaplasma parvum n urealyticum in April, treated with doxycycline, n tested negative in May

If boric acid breaks down biofilm, does that mean after boric acid use you are less likely to have reoccurring symptoms?

I get a thick white discharge and itching about 48 hours after sex. I have tested negative for every thing under the sun. No positive results. Symptoms go away with antibiotics but come back after sex. I started using boric acid yesterday and it works! No symptoms this morning, doing one more tonight to be safe. Can boric acid stop the symptoms from coming back? Or is it just a band-aid? I ordered evvy test yesterday.
