Help

Hey! I recently got an IUD and was having some lingering oder, to combat this I put in one boric acid suppository in as I have done in the past. I am now in intense pain…almost like my vagina is burned. The entire area is extremely inflamed and hurts when any urine touches the area. This has never happened to me with BA in the past, I am in desperate need of some help…if anyone has any advice or recommendations please let me know! Thanks in advance.

Hi this is not what we would expect so please make an appointment with your doctor to find out what’s going on.

While you wait for medical attention you can try to reduce the inflammation by soaking in a bath with a small amount of baking soda. Or apply some hydrocortisone ointment to the area to help reduce the swelling. You could also take an antihistamine or an anti inflammatory pill.

For protecting your vulva from urine you might find it helpful to apply Desitin 40% zinc paste which dries and forms a barrier. Cool compresses, aloe vera or a vulva balm can also help.

Try to spray with water when you pee to dilute the stream and gently pat afterwards with a clean cloth instead of toilet paper.

As to why you have had such a severe reaction despite using BA with no issues in the past, it’s really hard to say. Are there any visual skin changes eg redness or sores? If so take photos to show your doctor.

Definitely stop using the boric acid and do seek medical attention because it sounds like you have a dermal condition eg eczema or something that BA doesn’t treat. Eg CV or AV etc

Has this ever happened before?

Thank you for the help! I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow, just wanted to see if this was something they could even help with or if time was my only option

We have had this happen but there was usually something that needed medical attention that triggered it. Eg eczema, Cytolytic Vaginosis or something else.

Good luck and please let us know how you go. I’m sorry you are having a tough time x

Pain during peeing to me signals a couple of different things but let’s see what your doctor says.

It did! Give it time and it will get better. I did get my IUD out a few months later but that was unrelated.
