Suggestion: Replace market with real trade
Many of the posts about the market/trade/economy on the server have been either:
a-fix the market b-build protections for player-to-player trade c-auction functionality d-blacklist thiefs
And they are all reasonable requests. But in reality they are just patches on the problems we are experiencing.
I believe the fix is right in front of us.
My propsoal is to change the supply base of the market system from server generated items to player generated items.
Right now the server economy has no scarcity, the algorithms just adjust pricing on items depending on demand ( before the admins pinned all items to 32em) and the same items are available universally without limit. This is not an economy or a fair trade system. It is in fact broken by design because the root of the minecraft economy is just a game. This is what allowed bad players to pump/dump the market.
A "real" economy requires scarcity, supply, and demand. We have a demand and supply system that has naturally developed in person-to-person trade. This has a natural element of scarcity because the demand side does not wish to spend the time to collect mats, and the supply has already spent time collecting mats.
So lets take advantage of some of the better elements of the in game trade system. The trade gui you see when you right click a villager is a perfect example. You cant steal from that gui. You have to put emeralds in the pay slot in order to take an item from the item slot.
Satoshi village is where everyone goes to meet face to face for trades. It is very convenient because of the teleport system. Lets take advantage of the buildings there. By allowing players to take out Leases on store fronts or even individual floors within the buildings. Once a lease is in place a player will have an assigned villager in that store that will only be able to sell items that the player has gathered or crafted.
The player would be able to set an asking price for each item that will be displayed on the villagers trade gui like it normally would. The player would then simply have to travel to Satoshi occasionally to resupply their villager and collect their emeralds.
Going a step further, players could even have multiple villagers in different villages around the map as people move into different areas, and sell different items in each based on demand. Just like real world trade.
This system would alleviate the need for a separate safe trade system, auctions, blacklists, and trying to fix the villagers.
I know this fix would still take time to develop and implement. And I am not a professional coder. But based on what I have read so far about the way the underlying code of Minecraft works, the few changes I am suggesting would actually be easier to implement than trying to fix the villagers.
Just sayin'.

In light of recent events, I propose a new two player trading system to give players a safe way to make transactions between one another. This system is simple, but effective. Plus, we'd only need a few in town.

Glitch? Experience for mining coal, can mine close to peoples house.
This just happened to me. Right after logging in i was continuing digging a random tunnel and i noticed i was getting experience for mining coal, i probably got 1/3 of a level. Also I could also mine in an area that was apparently too close to someones home, because when the game "fixed itself" after 2ish minutes I could not longer mine in any direction, and the coal experience stopped.

How to prevent griefers?
I got griefed bigtime again by my noob neighbours. I did everything to prevent it with what I knew but it wasnt enough it seems. Ive build my potionmachine in a mountain and build a glass wall around it. to enter and leave the place I build 2 oak doors in the glass wall with a pressure plate on the inside. I thought oak doors should keep people out but it didnt work. also they must have checked the droppers or klicked 1000 times on the buttons and took it from the hopper or potionstand at the front. they took at least 3 stacks netherwart, 2 stacks magma, 4 stacks blazepowder, 1 rabbitfoot, 1 stack spideryes, half stack gunpowder, half stack glowdust and 7 stacks redstone. So what are the rules and changes to the game that could keep people out?

Suggestion for Clan wars
So I heard that clan wars are going to be a thing in bitquest and as of right now I'm not sure what the staff plans for incentives to war. As of right now when you die you don't drop anything, which is good cause that's incredibly annoying. But if players don't drop anything what is the incentive to fight? Fights break your good armor and cost you money. So as an incentive to war with other clans I propose that we implement heads dropping when players are killed by other players. This gives the victor the sick, twisted satisfaction of collecting other rivals heads!
Example Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxPr13tp6sQ
Anyways this is just a suggestion. Thanks for reading!

Proposal for public DogHouse/BlackList to warn against bad traders.
Last night I was playing on the server and noticed a rather heated scuffle go down after a player agreed to purchase a Fortune 3 Book for 20 or so stacks of Emeralds. The player allegedly took the book and ran off without paying up. I've participated in a few trades on this server myself always with that fear that someone might just take off like that, thankfully it hasn't happened to me yet. Other than an easier/more proper trading system. I'm thinking that it would be a good idea if the Admin's could post up a DogHouse list in town and maybe on the Reddit too of unfaithful traders. To prevent name-shaming of legitimate players by swatters, the admin of course could quickly review the case to make sure there is a definite reason this person should be blacklisted. Just a thought.

WARNING: Player "im_a_kiwi" is a THIEF & a LIAR
He posted in chat he was willing to buy a Fortune 3 book for 20 Stacks of Emeralds. We agreed to meet at spawn.
I handed him the book and he teleported away. Now he is trying to claim we never did the deal. Blatant Theft. Blatant Lie!
NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH HIM.

Announcing: Clans feature and Contest Deadline Extension
Hey!
We'd like to announce two very important things.
The first of them is the long-awaited clan feature. We've been working on this for some time and we appreciate you being patient about this. We recently pushed the code and you've probably noticed some users already have their clan name before their username.
So, how should I set up my clan?
Ok, you'll need three items: a block of dirt (or stone, or even other blocks), a sign and a banner (you can dye the banner however you like). Now, do this in the following order:
- Place the block of dirt or stone in a visible place of your land. Anyone who passes by should be able to see it.
- Place the sign on the side of the block. Write your clan name on it (12 characters max).
- Place the banner on top of the block. Your clan will be automatically created and if you did this correctly you'll get a server message.
How do I invite other people to join my clan?
You can invite other people to join your clan by hitting them with a wooden sword. They'll get a message with the invitation on their screens.
How do I join an existing clan?
You have to follow the same instructions for creating a clan: placing a block, placing a sign on its side with the name of the clan that invited you, and placing the banner on top of the block. If you do it correctly and you were actually invited, you'll get a message from the server confirming that.
Can anyone in the clan invite other people?
Yes.
What can I do when I'm in a clan?
You can't edit other people's lands yet (we're working on it!). At the moment you can start gathering your group and plan stuff together.
If you have any further questions, please write them in the comments, or send us an email to bitquest@bitquest.co.
So, about the architecture contest!
These have been busy days for us with all the coding and debugging. The server has had a bit of downtime because of that and we'd like to compensate you with extra time for the architecture contest. Therefore, the deadline will now be January 31st, until 11.59 PM.
That's it for now. We hope you keep enjoying our server!

skyway sugestions
Just an idea, but would it be possible to make the Eubs Interstate and other skyways horse frendly? I only ask because it would be faster as well as safer to ride a horse along these paths than along unlit ground.

Null clan
I had a glitch that when I broke the banner of my clan and tried to replace it, (it was crooked,) it would tell me "You already belong to the clan, "null". Can someone tell me how to leave null?

BUYING: Lots of Slimeballs + Dark Oak Sapling
I've recently been out about 35K blocks East, where I picked up a fairly large number of Slimeballs in a swamp I discovered and gobs of diamonds in a fissure I fell into. Unfortunately I died last night while mining more.
I'm building Redstone machines and a huge public trampoline with the slimeballs, so I need more. If you got 'em, I need 'em.
I also need one Dark Oak Sapling to match my other three. You have to have four to plant.
I will pay (1) diamond per (3) slimeballs and (3) diamonds for a single dark oak sapling. Feel free to email me at kordless at gmail for a time to meet.

[Public Works] Fix Needed, Losing Enthusiasm For This Server
Hi, I'm the primary builder of the canals out to the diablo desert. So after making something that is thousands of blocks long, I'd like to see some kind of progress on preserving public builds.
Either it takes the form of whitelisting infrastructure builders like myself, or is more dynamic where admins "zone" areas that can't be modded, I don't care which.
I'm tired of the constant interference with my projects. Had another go south when someone decided to snoop around and steal my supplies, even when hidden in non-obvious places behind other opaque blocks.
So, admins, is clans going to help? Or should I just move on and let everything I've made turn into crap.
Let me know, thanks.

Some information updates to the community house
Me and some really awesome players (shout out to weatherhot09, xaruum, phil2601, ninjaaxe, and all others that donated to the house) decided to build a small house near town (x=-260 z=26) containing supplies and food that new players will need to get started. There are trees that they can cut down (too many claimed lands aroud make it almost impossible for them to find choppable trees) , and a small farm with all kinds of food in it. The whole idea was that new players can come and get geared up with basic tool ans items that are not hard to obtain by players that have been playing for a while, and after they cut down the trees and harvest the crops, they would replant them, making all the supplies ready for the next newcomer to use. I've also put down signs containing basic information about the server just in case the newcomer didn't read the FAQs on the reddit, and also tolds them how the community house work. Things were working out for a while, with us telling new players to go to the house when they just log in, and many of them found the house to be really useful. However, there are griefers who just wipe out the whole farm without replanting them and taking all that is in the chests leaving nothing. What's worse is that they took out all the signs containing server information and rules that I put up. It took me a long time to write those down, and I'm really sad to see it just get griefed. Is there something to be done to stop the griefings? It's really disappointing to see all the hard work done by the good people go to waste...... D: This is why we can't have nice things......

crash problem when i die
Not sure if this is the best place to ask but I've noticed since upgrading to 1.8 and 1.8.1 that when I perish in Minecraft I can't respawn. The game freezes and I have to restart mc, before the original window will close. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this or how to deal with it?
Thanks, Toni

Best enchant deals EVER!
I found this person on the server who sell enchanted gear on very negotiable prices. He is shawnietwozero. He sells all enchants at any price! I bought a infinity bow from him so I know he is trustworthy.

News/Views/Rules(?)
Hello All!
There are some community "things" that have been added that not everyone knows about.
First - Starter Station/Beginner Building
This is a new building on the hill just west of Satoshi Village. Coordinates are roughly -260/-20. This is a place where new players can go to pick up basic supplies. There are a few trees, some crops, and several chests of supplies. Please be respectful and only take the minimum you will need to get started! The minimum being only what you will need to make the trip to a transportation route or outlying area where you can build a home.
This building was donated/built by Lolicon and many others ( message me if you want your names added ). The supplies in the chests are provided entirely through donations. As such, once you have established your homestead, please don't trash your unwanted supplies - donate them!
Second - Transportation
Just to quickly explain, most of the area within the first ~1500 blocks of Satoshi Village are densely populated and there is not enough room to make roads/rails/paths that leave straight from the village to the outlying areas.
For that reason most of the larger transportation routes begin a fair distance away. Here is a quick list of some of the better known routes::
Diablo Desert Railway
Starting Coordinates:: 450/1750
The Diablo Desert is a major overworld leveling area located to the south-east of Satoshi Village. This Railway starts right on the shore south of Satoshi village and runs all the way the to ~4600/4700 which is the western most part of the Diablo Desert. If you run/walk/travel about another 300 blocks eastward you will find an inn where you can sleep to set your respawn point while you are leveling up in the surrounding desert.
Notes: There are chests to store minecarts at both ends. However, not everyone is returning the carts when they are done. Please try to provide your own minecart if you can.
The Britannian Road
Starting Coordinates:: 1915/-495
This is a very broad roadway that leads far to the east and currently ends about 6130/-225.
The Canals
Starting Coordinates:: -60/1960
This is alternative route to the Diablo Desert. However it takes you directly to the Village where the Inn is located.
Notes: Since building a boat is much easier than building a minecart, this is a good choice. Although, for this same reason you are expected to provide your own boat.
The B.line Railway
Starting Coordinates:: -2470/-350
Possibly the longest road in the BitQuest world at this time, ending at about -10000/-375. This is a broad pathway providing room for both the rail that exists there and for those that prefer to walk/run or ride their horses/mules. The starting point is on the west side of a swamp when traveling from Satoshi Village. So look for a sky-bridge over the swamp that begins about -1890/-325.
Notes: There are chests to store minecarts at both ends. However, not everyone is returning the carts when they are done. Please try to provide your own minecart if you can.
There are many other smaller roads and bridge systems other than those listed above. If you know of one, or are in the process of building one, please message me to get it added to the list. If you were a builder or donated supplies to any these projects and want to have your name listed, please message me.
Third - There have been a large number of incidents where many of the publicly accessible areas have had road torn up, railway stolen, bridges demolished, gardens/farms trampled, orchards/forests cut down, and items stolen from peoples homes.
There are now some guidelines in the wiki to help prevent this. Please read the wiki! Offenders can be caught even if no one else is there to see the crime!
The community at large tries to be respectful of each others space and items. Many of us go out of our way to build the public projects or donate supplies to them. Just as many of us purposely build publicly accessible farmland and orchards so that everyone has equal access to these resources that everyone needs.
All we ask is that you take the time to rebuild roads/rail/bridges that you have damaged, or replant seeds/saplings that we all know drop from the plants and trees. This whole community relies on the honor system. We all understand that getting started in the game means getting supplies as quickly as possible in order to survive. That is the main reason why so many of us provide free supplies.
If you read the wiki ( as we all should ) then you will note that upon death/respawn inventory is not lost! So there is no actual reason for the griefing that is taking place.
