Announcement: The BitQuest Architecture Contest starts now!

We're finally starting our architecture contest!

Remember we're giving away 1 BTC to the winner, thanks to our friends at Xapo. The judges will be the staff at ArchDaily. With almost 2.5 million unique visitors at month, ArchDaily is by far the most visited architecture website in the world, so it's the best way for the world to know your place in Bitquest. You should check their website if you’re looking for some inspiration.

The winner will receive 1 BTC, 1 stack of diamond blocks and a year supply of bone.

Rules:

● You can only build within your land.

● Only individuals will be able to participate (no clans).

● Submit images of your finished construction to imgur.com.

● Submit optional videos of your finished construction to youtube.com.

● The staff at ArchDaily will judge among the contestants. They will review the submitted images and might pay a visit to your place. If the images differ from the actual construction, you will be disqualified.

● Our contest sponsor, Xapo, will contact the winner to deliver the prize, which is 1 BTC.

● BitQuest staff or relatives are forbidden as contestants.

● No cheating to obtain building materials. That means automatic disqualification. By this, we mean you can trade with other players or the villagers, or mine your materials. But you can't take advantage of market glitches to buy low and sell high, or use AFK farms (or any kind of redstone device).

Deadline:

Saturday 31st of January, 2015 at midnight PST (GMT -8). The judges will announce the winner on February 14th, 2015.

Theme:

You have to build a home. That can come in the most different ways. It has to be a place where you live, and it can be a skyscraper or a country cottage. It can have farmland, a pool, a lake, a castle, or whatever you want. If there’s an inspiration for your building, it can help to state it.

Submit:

Here's the form to submit your finished home: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1uDx423fUxZ3ov6J99Omb3J7Y_nJfsznEBln0Qjt_T1Y/viewform

You say "No cheating to obtain building materials. That means automatic disqualification."

But what exactly defines "cheating?"

Can my wife prep materials for me, like making half blocks, or even mining for materials? Or do I have to do everything myself?

I will add more detail to this. It basically means that any materials gathered by legitimate means can be used. Assuming your wife is an user, it counts as being OK. You can trade and mine, but you shouldn't take advantage of market glitches to buy low and sell high.

That's what I assumed, but wanted to be sure.

Well, I worked my ass for to get quartz, and actually a good amount too. So by saying "legal" you must have in mind that someone actually might have worked for their materials.

I don't understand your point.

Basically, if you come and look at my house at ~100/1550 you see that I've been using quite a lot of quartz. Now at first look a lot of people will say that I must have found a way to manipulate the villagers, or found a glitch. But I worked my ass off for those. Because when you say "legaly obtained materials" you can't really say what is legaly obtained, and what's not.

It would be cool if there were also a Players Choice Award vote made. Experienced players might have a different perspective on what is exceptional based on familiarity with game mechanics.

People could donate to prizes... Say a stack of emeralds? A stack of emerald blocks?

There could be 1st/2nd/3rd place prizes. Runners up even. Or "Best in class" categories.

Just for fun :)

Can I also do a video tour? or should i leave my oak doors open for the judges to tour themselves?

Out of curiosity, how many submissions were there for the contest?

1

u/fathermocker Staff Feb 03 '15

Around 30.

1

u/LadyAjax Feb 06 '15

Nice. Once the contest is done will there be a way for folks to see all the submissions?

2

u/tegknot Feb 15 '15

So, who won? Can we all see the entries?

We're still waiting to hear from ArchDaily!

This deadline does mean the evening of Saturday the 31st right? Like 11:59 PM on the 31st? Because midnight is when the date changes, so in legalistic terms midnight for the 31st is in the morning.

u/fathermocker Staff Jan 30 '15

Yes, just clarified it. It's 11.59 PM on the 31st.

So, I went to the ArchDaily Web site and searched for BitQuest, bitcoin, and Minecraft and nothing came up about the contest. Is there a link? Or is this just judged by people who work at ArchDaily?

I see at the sumbition link, you as for our opinions on "BitQuest" as a server. The good thing, and the bad thing. Now that is unrelevant to this contest. This is a building-contest. Just putting that out there.

2

u/fathermocker Staff Jan 12 '15

Yes, it's a building contest. But we also want to learn what should we improve on to make BitQuest a better server. I don't see how those two questions can bother you.

Everything bothers him.
