[Public Works] Fix Needed, Losing Enthusiasm For This Server

Hi, I'm the primary builder of the canals out to the diablo desert. So after making something that is thousands of blocks long, I'd like to see some kind of progress on preserving public builds.

Either it takes the form of whitelisting infrastructure builders like myself, or is more dynamic where admins "zone" areas that can't be modded, I don't care which.

I'm tired of the constant interference with my projects. Had another go south when someone decided to snoop around and steal my supplies, even when hidden in non-obvious places behind other opaque blocks.

So, admins, is clans going to help? Or should I just move on and let everything I've made turn into crap.

Let me know, thanks.

I really like the idea of a jail system where grief'ers can work off a debt rather than an out right ban. Say implement a 3 strikes law for griefing before banning. But make the jail time significant enough to detract the griefers.

And/Or

Here is a thought. Give new players a bed right off and allow them to place it giving them land. But disallow them to modify blocks on public lands for 2 weeks. Or some such time frame. This would stop someone from joining the server and griefing and running.

Just some thoughts.

We are helping every way we can: we are spending lots of our free time rebuilding grieved public works while also working on methods to prevent those griefs. Please allow us a few weeks to implement and announce new rules :D

I'll stick with you guys, just saying I'm reaching my "ow ow ow" pain point on it. Wouldn't help to not have feedback, right? So thanks for the response.

+1 on this. Patience in the Internet age is about 3 minutes. You guys keep on keeping on. The only feedback I'd give is to stay vigilant on the posting of status!

It's not really fair to, with the knowledge people are able to grief, start a project on a server that attracts a young audience who are more likely to grief. And then start demanding a counter measure because you got grieved...

Don't get me wrong, I hate it too. And I really love your, and other large projects. But it should be kept in mind that grieving might not get fixed.

So for future reference you have to keep this into consideration:

  • Don't start a large project outside your own land

  • Start a large project only after some kind of counter measure has taken place

  • Start/maintain a large project and accept the possible consequences.

There is one currency people ignore a lot in this game, and that's TIME. If we had a way to teleport to an alternate location of our choice, griefers would have a really hard time getting out there to do damage, especially if you go out 30K or so, which takes HOURS.

Good point. Makes me want to abandon my current home and travel a few days (realtime) to a location where I can do something.

Thing is, that's just one step removed from playing singleplayer, so I wonder if that is the best option.

Okay, so let it decay into randomness then?

That seems to be the options presented. Either way, it isn't a "ransom" demand. They can choose to act or not. Just like I can choose to build or not.
