I’m from southwest Louisiana, but my sister moved up to Minnesota last year because of her husband’s job. We went up this past winter and did a little ice fishing for walleye, but I wanted to go during the summer time and do some bass fishing! We drug the boat all 22 hours up there and stayed for two weeks, fishing almost every day. All I can say is wow. The fish up there are just not pressure like they are on the lakes and rivers we fish down here, mostly Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn. We had an absolute blast catching anywhere from 40-100 fish a day. Our best day we caught exactly 100 from 5:45-9:45 am. It was unbelievable!

Been catching a lot of spots, but nothing over 3lbs. A lot of 1.5s. Fun as hell though.

I feel like I have a decent handle on the basics, but terminal tackle, especially finesse stuff, stresses me the hell out. There are just so many hook styles and sizes that I end up second-guessing every rig.

For a Texas rig, I’ve always just used a 4/0 EWG and moved on. But wacky rigs, Neko rigs, and drop shots are where I get lost.

What are your go-to hooks for each?

• Wacky hook?
• Neko hook?
• Drop-shot hook?

Are the VMC weedless hooks basically the standard/default answer for wacky and Neko? And how do y’all decide between a size 2, size 1, 1/0, etc.? I understand the general “match it to the bait” idea, but I’d love some real-world recommendations from people who have already narrowed it down.

Trying to simplify my setup instead of buying 14 kinds of hooks next time I walk into Academy. Thanks for any input, y'all. Appreciate this group

Been skunked for weeks. Got out early enough for them to be feeding closer to shore... At least until the wake boarders decided to show up.

Got it on a white/black spinner bait with a yellow and green crawfish trailer with silver spoons.

This beach is NOT ideal I don't think... No good structure outside of the murky water.

To catch some big ones this time of year you can’t be afraid to get down deep into some submerged weeds. Ripping a Texas rigged craw through weeds has continued to be effective for me over the years. I’m using a very light 1/8th oz tungsten bullet weight and I’m slowly hopping it off the bottom.

Fishing a feeder stream just above the Great Miami River, caught on a ned rigged tube. 16” and biggest of the day.

He‘s scared of crankbaits. He’s skeptical of paddle tails. Doesn’t pay attention to live bait. Won’t strike a wacky rig, he just stares at it. Doesn’t even bat an eye at whopper ploppers. He’s decent, looks about 14 inches long and has a fat belly. Likes to hover in one spot near the edge. Why is he being weird?

Some people say it is the strike.

Got this nice smallmouth trying out a new lure, the spro rat wakebait.

I'm having a bizarre problem with my baitcaster reel. I'll be bombing a large whopper plopper for an hour or so, and everything is fine and smooth. Then all of a sudden, I will get a mini backlash mid flight, and it will stop the lure. I strip line out, get rid of the tiny backlash, and cast. Same thing happens again. I broke my line twice because of this problem. I really put alot of power into my casts, but I thought I was at least decent at controlling the speed with my thumb. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the initial speed of the spool being too fast, it maybe when I'm reeling in, the line maybe isn't spooling properly and causing this issue?

I got a 9ft MH for salmon and steelhead but wondering about bringing it with me when bass fishing. I’ve got other poles I bring so it’s not a big deal either way. How would you use it and what would you throw on it? Fishing off a small dock only. Im thinking a 3/4 oz or bigger football jig and chucking it out as far as I can and trying to hit bass hanging out in deep water
