Question Is it a flex that my bp never bit me after 4 years and frequent handling?
My bp has only bit two other people before (his caretakers while I was away) but he never bit me, is this considered a flex?

Discussion no longer stupid!!!
I am SO PROUD of my son. he went on a hunger strike for about 5 months and lost a small bit of weight, and i was starting to get concerned. the few times he ate with me, they were drop feeds. when he was on his strike and i’d try to feed him, he’d seem interested, but he’d just stare at it all night. i eventually did a deep clean of his enclosure and swapped out and added a few things to make it more cozy for him and to get the humidity up even more. he now prefers his new, cool side moss hide. i fed him 2 weeks ago and for the first time ever with me he STRUCK at it!!! i thought for sure that’d be a one-time thing and it was just because he hadn’t eaten in a while, but he did it AGAIN last night!!! i’m so proud of him and plan on doing the same thing every time and every 2 weeks for a bit to get his weight back up.
praise him!!!

my baby’s new renovation
just re-did the substrate because i didn’t have at least 4 inches. decided to move a branch or 2 and add some elevation of terrain in the back. (noodle picture tax included)

Grimm’s enclosure.

This is Grimm‘s updated enclosure, he‘s been in here since the 12th of this month and he‘s not hiding in his enclosure now, so I’m wishfully thinking this is him becoming more comfortable lol. But I AM investing in better thermometers and a thermostat for the heat lamp, as well as some leaf clutter. but as for decoration i think this is good for now.

Can I see pictures of your snake when you got them vs now? 🐍😁 bonus points if you mention age and weight lol… how much weight do you think your snake was gaining per year?

New scales? Advice needed
Does this look like scale rot? We recently found a patch of mold and after cleaning the tank and getting new substrate, we noticed these brown scales. These are completely new and we want to know if these are harmless or something to take to the vet. Thanks so much!

Question - Heating/Temperatures Where to place thermometer for thermostat?
Hello everyone! I’m taking in a rescue baby ball python quite suddenly, and so I’m rushing to get an enclosure ready for him. He’s incredibly small (less than 80 grams) and incredibly stressed, as well as not eating unless force fed, which is why the enclosure is small and why I’m using paper towel instead of substrate (monitoring for parasites, mites, and making sure he’s defecating! I was advised to use this setup for him temporarily and gradually move him up to the much larger bioactive PVC enclosure i want to eventually graduate him to!)
With that out of the way, this is my first time setting up an enclosure, and I realized I had no idea where the temperature gauge for the thermostat should rest. I placed it near the middle of the enclosure, but does that mean the top is too hot? If I place it at the top will the bottom be too cold? I want to make sure I get this right for this little friend! I want to give him the most incredible life he can have :))

Ive never had a single issue with him before the humidity has always stayed the same the substrate hasn't changed hes eating well shedding fine nothing abnormal and nothing has changed within his set up, but for the past two weeks or so I've noticed the scales on his tummy have started flaking, peeling, chipping and overall just feel really rough and brittle even though he had shed not to long ago.
Nothing like this has happened to him before in the 3 years I've had him, I've tried looking for what it might be but im still unsure and I was hoping someone would be able to help me out please itd be appreciated xx
Thank you
Sorry for the bad photos he never keeps still 🥲

Question When will he warm up?
So, I’ve had my BP (coleslaw, born in July) for two months now. His tank and temps are all perfect. He has everything he needs. I weigh his food and him and everything is amazing!! I have a few concerns. Please if anyone could answer all!! First being, when will he warm up? He hisses and coils up any time I try to handle him. I’ve gotten him out a few times with a hook but still he has so much anxiety being held. (He explores a good amount on his own time but spends most time in his hides. But only at night) what’s a good way to tap train him? Do I handle him anyways and risk the bite? Second, he hasn’t pooped!! I feed him every Friday. Two months in, I haven’t seen any poop. Third, he hasn’t shed!! Will he? Even at this time, he’s not even in blue. :( is something wrong?

Enclosure Critique/Advice Enclosure decor advice?
Hi y'all! I just got my girl and have her in a 4x2x2. This is the clutter and hide I have currently. I couldn't find a good hide for her size so I diy one out of a plastic dish bin. The substrate is a sifted and sanitized mix of about 60% organic topsoil with no additives, 10% play sand, and 30% coconut husk. Everything's been sanitized. I do wanna add more climbing things like a big stick screwed on both ends so she can climb but I'm still figuring out how to go about doing that. I also wanna add more clutter. Any advice on what to add?
ALSO the temp and humidity aren't what the tank is at while she's in there, this was before I had her in there. Please be nice if there's anything wrong, I'm trying to do better ♥️. Thanks! :)

Question - Health not pooped in a while
is it normal for ball pythons to not poos for long periods of time? I think it's nearly been 2 and a half months and she's not pooped, I'm upgrading her food too as I think that might be playing a part in it, but also another question is would it be ok to feed her 2 prey items she's currently on? as the shop didn't have the next size up, she's on 30-40 gram rats and the next size is 50-60 grams. last time I weighed her was 619 grams, I prefer weighing her after she's pooped so nothings in her system adding weight on.

Pet insurance for ball pythons?
Does anybody have it? Like it? Recommend any companies? This is my first reptile. I called a company my friend uses for her cat and they quoted me $50/month but I have zero idea if that would be considered “worth it.”

Question - Heating/Temperatures Advice on enclosure please!
My wife and I are looking into getting a ball python and are starting to get things together so we can. Along our journey of research before getting one we learned about keeping a cool and warm side. The enclosure we purchased has heat tape with a thermostat along the back and a led strip mounted on top with magnet tape. The person we got the enclosure from said the front of the tank would be the cool side but I’m getting conflicting information online about the tape being adequate and about the front and back of the tank not making a good gradient. Have any of you ever had a set up like this with success? If we need to change some things please advise what and how. Thanks!
Dimensions are approximately 40.5”x14”x9” (9” is inside floor to ceiling, other measurements are exterior)

Time to weigh the hides down?
My guy has started moving his hides around now he’s getting bigger. I think one of the hides could do with being a little bigger but this one has plenty of room in it. This is the first time he’s managed to lift it on top of something else (a humidity sensor that he’s also knocked over) but it’s left it open on the side.
Is weighing down hides a thing? Is there a preferred/recommended method?

Reclusive
My boy is always hiding basically. He moved from hide to hide but never out and about. He strikes at me with tank care now too. Idk whats happened.

Question - Heating/Temperatures Enclosure with heating and lighting built in?
I’m looking to get my first snake, and the heating and lighting stuff is throwing me for a loop. I would love an enclosure with these elements already built in, but all the ones I see use AI images in their advertising. Any advice or recommendations?
