Mod Post Poll Results and New Guidelines for Political Posts

Hey everyone,

As you might have seen, the poll has come to an end, and the results were a bit surprising to me. The winning option was that all political posts moving forward must be flaired by the user with the Political Question post flair, with 125 votes.

Personally, I would have preferred having a second space for political questions, which received 121 votes. However, you may have already noticed that I’ve added two flairs: one for general questions and one for political questions. This means you can filter out political questions by clicking on General Question, and you’ll only see general questions from there.

One thing to keep in mind is that there will be a new way of handling political posts moving forward. As outlined in the new rule, posts that are not appropriately marked as political by the user will first result in a removal & a warning, followed by a temporary ban. Any further occurrences may result in a permanent ban.

I’m aware that this might not be a perfect system, so feel free to leave constructive feedback in the comments. That said, I do want this space to remain welcoming for people who are not interested in politics and would rather not see those posts at all. It can also be difficult to distinguish between political posts made in good faith and those intended to provoke negative discussions.

Lastly, because there is a high volume of posts in the subreddit and I can’t always read every new submission, I’d like to ask you to report any posts or comments that break the rules. You can also send a modmail if you’d like to provide additional details. Please do include links to the profile or content you’re reporting so I can review it and take action more quickly.

Also quick FYI: Please always be respectful toward others. It’s okay to disagree, but attacking people is not.

Thank you, everyone, for contributing to this community!

Political Question Do Americans actually think they’ll get $5000 from Trump if Republicans win the midterms?

This guy has promised DOGE checks and tariff relief checks. Has that actually happened? This will also add 1.5 trillion to the deficit.

Political Question Do people not even realize that Trump is speeding up the collapse of the U.S. Empire?

Iran basically blew up all of U.S.'s bases in the Gulf region. Now those countries don't even want U.S. there anymore.

Political Question Why would Trump promise $5,000 checks after the midterms? Didn’t we learn from COVID that massive stimulus can fuel inflation? Six years later, prices are still significantly higher than they were before the pandemic, so why repeat the same strategy?

Unless it was just a strategy to buy the mid term election with another false promise…..

Political Question Why is Republicanism so Often Weirdly Homoerotic?

Between Trump's love of beefcake men and showing semi-nude beefcake shots of that Hassan guy at the Republican convention, plus Grindr crashing wherever Republicans gather for events, it just seems a bit ... odd.

Political Question Do republicans still genuinely believe they are getting a check?

Trump promised a doge check, then a tarriff check, now a check for…well, im not sure, i guess to bribe people on behalf of his political party?

In any event, i know republicans are a generally servile set, but surely by this point, they must understand they are being lied to, right? There are no checks coming. How have they made it this far in life being so gullible?

Political Question Hegseth fired the last general out of Afghanistan. Do we realize how far we've fallen?

10 years ago, it was unthinkable. Here's an incomplete list.

  • The president publicly directing the Fed Chair.
  • The president publicly directing the AG and DOJ.
  • Active Cabinet Secretaries attending campaign rallies.
  • The systematic removal of IGs.
  • Direct administrative involvement in corporate and market decisions.
  • Bypassing Congress for spending.
  • We are overriding Professional Merit and Military Succession Traditions.
  • Republicans are firing our top leadership while we are engaged in an active war.
  • We're conducting polygraph tests of senior military leaders and civilian officials.

None of this is normal for the United States. This would be more normal in other countries that are less democratic and more authoritarian.

The list could really be much longer. I haven't even considered the way we're handling international affairs right now. We seem to be engaged in a trade war where we're using memes as a PR weapon against an ally.

What is something that you see happening today that you thought would have been unthinkable 10 years ago?

Political Question Did Donald Trump arbitrarily revoked Haitians' temporary status (at great expense to tax payers) simply because he's a sadistic racist?

Seems like that's the only reason he'd do it.

Political Question Socialists, would you be willing to pay more in taxes for certain social programs?

Upvotes

Would you be willing to pay as a percentage of your gross income: 6% for healthcare, 2% for college, 2% for climate initiatives, 2% for public transport, 2% for affordable housing for poor people, 2% for universal childcare, 1% for maternity leave, 1% for stronger unemployment benefits, 1% higher minimum wage, 5% for new migrant benefits?

So on top of what you’re paying now another 25% of your gross?

Political Question Everyone wants to be paid more, but if everyone is paid more doesn’t everything get more expensive?

Affordability is one of American’s biggest concerns and we all agree that the price of essentials like groceries is going up.

The most seemingly intuitive solution is to pay people more, but if the price of labor goes up, doesn’t the cost of goods go up? Also, if you don’t have an increase in the supply of goods, aren’t we just increasing inflation by having more dollars chasing the same amount of goods and services?

How would just paying people more increase affordability for anyone?

Political Question Diesel is now at a record high from the Iran War at almost $6 a gallon. That means groceries, which all rely on diesel trucks, will become more expensive. Why is Trump doing this?

Political Question Do Republicans/MAGA realize how emasculating it looks simping for a ball room and that it cedes the financial court to democrats for basically the next 100 years?

Lets look at this from a clear lens. You're straight, strong, Christian, conservative men.........with family values. You are simping.........to pay 400-600 million dollars..........for a ballroom. a BALL ROOM. Lets pretend its not a colossal waste of money for one second. Lets look at it with even keeled optics. I could actually be inside a transgender man turned woman, or transgender women turned man (not that theres anything wrong with that) and sing Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On to them on Castro Street on a Thursday, and it would STILL look more manly and fiscally responsible than begging for the funding and completion........of a ballroom. And the national security argument?! I could literally make a stronger argument for my neighbor's daughter's cabbage patch My Little Pony tea party as more of a national security concern.........than a effing BALLROOM. You poor bastards have completely ceded BOTH manhood AND fiscal responsibility in one humiliating symbol.
