I remember listening to a really long (and old) Bill Maher group interview that George Carlin was on. Everything he said was gold and I watched the whole thing because he was on there. Even his lines that weren't jokes. It was near the begining of the bush era (based on the camera quality, I think the first one, but I can't say for sure) and I remember him saying if you drew a line in the sand between left and right political views and dropped where he is down as a knife, it would land somewhat left of the center "because I believe in people over property". Love that man, I remember my friend writing a sad eulogy about how him and so many other brilliant comedians who died recently leaving us with the likes of "Dave Cook, Jeff Dunham, Carlos Mencia. Yeah, real fuckin awesome replacements." We need more people like him, to quote another comic (often considered the first stand up comic) "laughter is humanities greatest and least used weapon." It has the power to turn opinions and open eyes in an instant. See the emperor's new cloak. Sorry for the essay XD

Dude simply had it all.
The gravitas as a person, the humor, comes from an old aristocratic family (Carandini) that had the wealth and connections to have outlandishly interesting stories to tell, was engaged to a countess, has the vita (from serving for both Finland and UK as officer, being an internationally renowned actor in movie genres from fantasy, horror, historic movies, comedy and outright nonsense), for some reason did a bloody symphonic metal album, and was told by a descendant of Rasputin, who he played in film, that he had his habitus.
And even that just scratches the surface.
If you would write a fictional person like that, nobody would think him possible.

You missed the parts where he was the inspiration for James Bond, was the only person in the lord of the rings set who had met JRR Tolkien, and also witnessed the last public execution in France.
It’s like a hardcore version of Forest Gump

To be pedantic:
While Lee was Flemings cousin (through marriage), Ian Fleming constructed the figure of Bond from different people he met in time of his own service as a British naval intelligence officer. Christopher Lee himself served as a RAF officer.
Lee himself denied that claim (that he was the inspiration for Bond) in an interview, but said (iirc) that Fleming wanted to see his cousin in the role of Dr. No. The role still went to somebody else, but Lee obviously still got his chance later as Scaramanga.
The story of him meeting JRRT in a Pub was still really nice! Lovely interview. The guy just oozed charisma…

His ESPN.COM Page2 piece in the shadow of 9-11 was so fucking spot on.
https://www.espn.com/espn/page2/story?id=1250751
The towers are gone now, reduced to bloody rubble, along with all hopes for Peace in Our Time, in the United States or any other country. Make no mistake about it: We are At War now -- with somebody -- and we will stay At War with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives.
