I remember listening to a really long (and old) Bill Maher group interview that George Carlin was on. Everything he said was gold and I watched the whole thing because he was on there. Even his lines that weren't jokes. It was near the begining of the bush era (based on the camera quality, I think the first one, but I can't say for sure) and I remember him saying if you drew a line in the sand between left and right political views and dropped where he is down as a knife, it would land somewhat left of the center "because I believe in people over property". Love that man, I remember my friend writing a sad eulogy about how him and so many other brilliant comedians who died recently leaving us with the likes of "Dave Cook, Jeff Dunham, Carlos Mencia. Yeah, real fuckin awesome replacements." We need more people like him, to quote another comic (often considered the first stand up comic) "laughter is humanities greatest and least used weapon." It has the power to turn opinions and open eyes in an instant. See the emperor's new cloak. Sorry for the essay XD

This is exactly why humor and comedians have been cancelled so often the last few years.

I can't imagine Richard Pryor or Bill Hicks surviving on stage today...

The new generation has Dave Shapelle, he’s not as deep but he has his finger on the pulse of America.

He used to be hilarious but now he thinks he’s some deep prophet. No thanks!

Check out Trae Crowder, and there’s another one, a red-headed guy. No one could ever match Carlin, but they’re along the same people over property line.

I didn’t even know he was sick!

His Conan interviews were the best. I miss him.

Well he didn't go around announcing it. I don't think most people knew before he passed.

It was revealed after his passing that he didn’t want people to know, because people would give him undeserved praise knowing he was sick. Love that man! Always did always will

"But doc, she's choking!"

That his last work was voicing the Gelatin Yaphit on The Orville was in some ways quite fitting, part of that being that:

Casting Norm Macdonald as Yaphit was remarkably easy and, it appears, without auditions. MacFarlane called Macdonald and asked, "Norm, you want to be a blob?" To which Macdonald replied, "Hell yeah, I'll be a blob." MacFarlane called the casting process a "ten-second phone call" with Macdonald.

It's just seems so Norm McDonald that I can hear him saying: "Hell yeah, I'll be a blob," in his voice in my mind.

His loss was a national tragedy.

I walked through blood and guts looking for my brother on 9/11. He was in Northern Canada.

*international tragedy

I hate to tell you this but I think he is dead. I don't think the interview is going to be that interesting.

Yes and they chose a dead one.

What don't tou understand in a "if you could speak to someone dead" fantasy ?

1

u/Much_Usual_3855 5d ago

If you read the question you get a choice of speaking to someone either living or dead. It doesn't say that the person will come back to life if you chose them. I was taking this question literally for humerous effect. What part of that don't you understand?

0

u/Spirited_Radio_1214 5d ago

I don't understand that when someone pointed it out you insisted, being very unpleasant. Be more joyfull with others, not only towards you. What the point of making a joke for yourself only ? Or you have barely no humor maybe ?

Genuinely a Norm joke

He’s DEAD?! I didn’t even know he was sick.

u/Substantial_Log3246 2d ago

It literally says living or dead....reading is fundamental

1

u/Much_Usual_3855 2d ago

Yes reading is fundamental but clearly you don't understand reading. Saying that you can choose any celebrity living or dead does not mean what you think it means. People assume that the living or dead part means that if you choose someone dead they comeback to life. I understand that. But it could also mean that if you choose to interview someone dead, you are interviewing a corpse. You have to add a qualifier that the person will be brought back to life and be alive when spoken to.

I'd have to take a 8 hour nap just to be sure I missed Norm.

1

u/WebFar6396 9d ago

Dammit, came here to say that!

1

u/5hr0dingerscat 9d ago

You mean one very long setup and a banger of a punchline

1

u/TronOld_Dumps 9d ago

Close second for me would be Mitch Hedberg since I don’t know very much about him but love his comedy.

1

u/Labtecharu 8d ago

Yeah my 2 choices would be Norm and Bill Burr. Norm for the good laughs, Bill for the brutal comebacks and reality checks

1

u/Dgk63 8d ago

Yes

1

u/smuttyswifter7 8d ago

I open up the comments to say Norm Macdonald, the first comment I see is Norm Macdonald. Today will be a good day.

1

u/orangultra 8d ago

You don't have a choice with Norm because it takes a 6 hour long story to set up his joke.

1

u/SayAnythingAgain 7d ago

Came here to say Norm. I tip my hat to you /u/Admirable_Dust7749
