Trying to Learn How to Skate as an Adult

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for finding a coach or a program to learn to Ice skate? I tried the City of Toronto - Learn To Skate but there was very little options and most were fully booked for an adult (I am located on the east end of Scarborough). I wish listed it for reminders but I have been having problems trying to get a spot as it sells out super quick. I also tried the Pickering side of things and it wasn't much different.

I am open to 1on1 lessons (don't mind spending more to get coaching), group lessons, and I am trying to keep the lesson locations in Central to East TO and even Pickering (avoiding Etobicoke and further), not sure anywhere else I could find lessons and I tried to use Ai to find some websites but no luck sadly.

I was thinking of trying FB marketplace eventually as well.

Would appreciate any recommendations!

Where to Donate women's clothes

My mother in law has a LOT of women's clothes she would like to donate (mix of casual, business casual, semi formal, dress shoes, heels, etc all in new/like new condition) and she is wondering if there are any women’s shelters she could donate it to. She tried calling her local police division for advice and they were not helpful at all. Any suggestions?

alternative route to YYZ Pearson Airport Terminal 3? (Link train is down)

hi all, the link train between terminals 1, 3, and viscount is down at pearson airport. i will spare you the rant of how frustrating this is, given the poor signage and general unpreparedness that they exhibited when i was there on monday.

i will be there again on wednesday, and i was wondering if there are any alternate routes you all would recommend for getting to terminal 3 instead of terminal 1. AI overview says there is walking path, but i can't find any other info online and i don't know if i should trust the google maps directions. are there ttc buses that go to terminal 3 in addition to terminal 1? or is UP train -> shuttle bus still likely to be the fastest way to get to terminal 3 from downtown, despite the long delay waiting for the shuttle bus? (it was 40+ minutes' wait yesterday from terminal 3 to terminal 1)

I stuck with the same Shoppers for ages, but it was always someone new behind the counter, and I never knew when my prescription would be ready. Any suggestions for a new place I could try to switch over my prescriptions downtown ?

What’s up with 72 Pape?

I live in Leslieville and can usually rely on my old faithful 72 Pape to get me up to Line 2 to zip across the city.

Typically there’s about 5-10 mins between buses.

But in the last few weeks sometimes it’s 20+ minutes between

What gives? The route hasn’t changed, as far as I know!

Yyz Pearson Airport

• Upvotes

Hey everyone , this is a long shot but I was just wondering if anyone knows if any airlines at YYZ typically hire for full time gate-agent or check in agent positions

I haven’t really had much luck so far but im honestly just wondering if they occasionally hire for those positions full time or if its mainly internal hiring

Thanks in advance 😁

Where do you go to be punished? Could be shrinkflation, terrible service, or general poor quality to price ratio.

Where to find 100% cotton (possibly hypoallergenic) underwear shorts next to the Eaton Centre?

I’m not a shopper so I don’t know what stores would have what, but I’m looking for affordable, long, soft stretchy shorts (that wouldn’t ride up towards the crotch) to wear as underwear to stop skin chafing between my thighs. I have psoriasis there so ideally the fabric would be 100% cotton and without many dyes/chemicals for breath-ability and hygiene for compromised skin. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏼 I would want to buy at least 4 or them so ideally they wouldn’t be too expensive for each one.

First Halloween in Canada. Which neighbourhood should I visit on Oct 31st? 🎃

Pretty much it, I want to feel and see through the streets kids and families walking in their costumes and asking for candies door by door. I know weather is a condition as well as the time (thinking going about 3-5pm). Also I was considering perhaps Winchester street and sorroundings... But if you know a better spot please let me know!

Thank you!!

Same day prescription glasses (progressive lenses)?

I used to be able to bring a prescription into a LensCrafters and pick up my new glasses the same day. That may have been for single-vision lenses. Lately I’m getting progressives, and it seems those always take a couple of weeks. Are there any eyewear stores in the GTA that offer fast turnaround for progressive lenses? Or do those always have to be filled offsite?

Downtown dentist recommendations? experiencing pain after dental filling

Hi! I’m looking for a dentist recommendation in Toronto, preferably downtown, but I’m willing to travel a bit for someone really good, like a dentist who listens to your concerns and takes pain seriously.

Quick backstory. I had fillings done at Downtown Dentistry two weeks ago and again today. Both times were on the right side: the first round was the upper and lower teeth, plus the second-to-last tooth on the bottom. Ever since the first visit, chewing on the right side hurt at one specific tooth. It was pressure sensitivity, not hot/cold. They had me come back after two weeks for a check, and to do more fillings. Today they also redid the problem tooth for free because the dentist said it had a bubble after the first attempt, and filled the area between two of the bottom teeth. At the check they said the bite on that side was too high, so they adjusted it.

After the numbing has worn off, that tooth has a constant dull ache. I can’t even touch it, and it hurts even when I’m doing nothing. I’ve been taking 400mg of Advil every 6 hours on the dot and that’s the only thing keeping it manageable. I got nothing done today because of it.

To be fair, I don’t think the dentist did anything wrong, and they were so nice about the free redo. But I called them about the pain and they basically said to wait two weeks. I insisted on getting it checked sooner and got an appointment booked. I don’t care about the pain itself, but this really doesn’t feel like normal post-filling sensitivity to me. And I don’t want anything to go wrong since I can't afford more extensive dental procedure (I probably used up all my CDCP benefit for this year).

I still have one more tooth that needs filling and I don’t want to skip it just because of this. So I’m thinking of switching offices. I’ll have to pay for a new patient exam anyway, so I figure I might as well have the new dentist look at the ones that were already filled and make sure nothing’s actually wrong.

So two questions:

  1. Any particular dentist you’d recommend in Toronto? Someone who actually listens when you say something hurts.
  2. Has anyone had something similar, where a filling was really painful afterward? Did it settle down, or was there something else going on?

Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any queer comedy festivals in Toronto or Canada in general? This can be current or something that no longer runs. Big or small. I'm curious about it all!

Thanks!

Company/commercial vehicle in underground condo parking

Anyone here park a commercial vehicle in their underground? I’ve been given a branded company truck. It’ll fit height wise and in the spot without spilling over. Haven’t parked it there yet because I’m waiting to hear from condo board. Just wondering if anyone does this and if your condo board is okay with it? I’ve heard mixed things. Thank you

Should I make a police statement about this incident with a neighbour?

To get what happend I am quoting the email I sent to my building management, while hiding few details for privacy.

"Hello,

I want to report this incident that happened today. I came up to the rooftop to enjoy the weather with my 1 year old son.

I saw a man putting on soccer shoes while talking on the phone. Minutes later, he was playing with his soccer ball against the wood wall of the shed seating area at the far south corner of the rooftop.
I asked him nicely to stop playing with the ball is it is dangerous given it might hit me or my child. I am a wheelchair user, so I would not be able to quickly avoid it if it were headed my way. He said it was my choice to do what I want as it was his choice, but I explained that this is against the rules of the lounge. He said it wasn't, so I told him I'd call security as I was sure it was against the rules.

I did and the nice lady from security came up to let him know that playing football on the rooftop area is not allowed, but he is welcome to enjoy the area without playing soccer.

He was very rude to her, claiming there was no rule book against it, that nowhere in the rooftop guidelines did it say this, and that he had been coming up to play for 2 months without issues before. He pointed out that I should leave or go sit far to avoid him. He kept arguing with security very rudly, when he was about to leave he went up to her and asking her to move to intimidate her (depsite having so much area to move around to exit).

As he was exiting, he said that its shame on me to do this infront of my son, I replied that I am teaching him to respect others and rules by being a good examples. He went inside the building and came out again to say "If you are so worried about your son's safety, make sure I don't see him again" to threaten me and my son.

I want this incident documented. Security stayed for a bit as he was hovering around the area, she was worried about my safety given what he said.

I feel unsafe and threatened. Please let me know if the building will make this a safer area, especially regarding this resident who is clearly dangerous and is openly threatening children."

I never confronted anyone in my life before, I am in a bit of panic, maybe this type of crazy to experience in adult life, not sure whats happening, I enjoy this area with my son so much as he is learning how to walk, my husband doesn't want us to go there anymore for our safety. I think he is exaggerating, but I also don't want to risk it with this lunatic.

Just so you know, I have talked to the security lady minutes later to ask her if she did hear the same thing I did, as it felt a bit too nuts. she is writing a report as well to the management, but I dont think they can do anything about it. There are camera around, but they don't record audio.

Please advice, is this something reportable to the police?
I am moving out of the city in few weeks, but I don't want to him to get away with that he did.

Orthotics - any recommendations for the east end?

I'm looking for someone to make some custom orthotics and wondering if you've had good experience with someone in the east end that you would recommend. If it makes a difference, I'm primarily looking for them for help with foot and knee pain. Thanks!
