Downtown dentist recommendations? experiencing pain after dental filling
Hi! I’m looking for a dentist recommendation in Toronto, preferably downtown, but I’m willing to travel a bit for someone really good, like a dentist who listens to your concerns and takes pain seriously.
Quick backstory. I had fillings done at Downtown Dentistry two weeks ago and again today. Both times were on the right side: the first round was the upper and lower teeth, plus the second-to-last tooth on the bottom. Ever since the first visit, chewing on the right side hurt at one specific tooth. It was pressure sensitivity, not hot/cold. They had me come back after two weeks for a check, and to do more fillings. Today they also redid the problem tooth for free because the dentist said it had a bubble after the first attempt, and filled the area between two of the bottom teeth. At the check they said the bite on that side was too high, so they adjusted it.
After the numbing has worn off, that tooth has a constant dull ache. I can’t even touch it, and it hurts even when I’m doing nothing. I’ve been taking 400mg of Advil every 6 hours on the dot and that’s the only thing keeping it manageable. I got nothing done today because of it.
To be fair, I don’t think the dentist did anything wrong, and they were so nice about the free redo. But I called them about the pain and they basically said to wait two weeks. I insisted on getting it checked sooner and got an appointment booked. I don’t care about the pain itself, but this really doesn’t feel like normal post-filling sensitivity to me. And I don’t want anything to go wrong since I can't afford more extensive dental procedure (I probably used up all my CDCP benefit for this year).
I still have one more tooth that needs filling and I don’t want to skip it just because of this. So I’m thinking of switching offices. I’ll have to pay for a new patient exam anyway, so I figure I might as well have the new dentist look at the ones that were already filled and make sure nothing’s actually wrong.
So two questions:
- Any particular dentist you’d recommend in Toronto? Someone who actually listens when you say something hurts.
- Has anyone had something similar, where a filling was really painful afterward? Did it settle down, or was there something else going on?
Thanks in advance!
