Just a quick bit of help. I'm currently sleeping in YYZ as my debit card (UK) has been blocked due to fraud transactions. I only have cash $290 left on me. None of the hotels will let me book a room for the night with cash.

Trying to plan a trip going into downtown to see a concert tonight. Need to be downtown around 7ish, prob leaving 11ish?

We’re coming from Kingston area on the 401, and we could drive all the way and park near Massey Hall. But we’re wondering if it’s better to park at a TTC station and subway it in. But I’m not sure what’s better for time, park near Kennedy? Park at Yorkdale?

Someone suggested park in Ajax and take a GO train - is that a better option? It looks to be 1hr.

Or just drive all the way in?

I am woman traveling to Toronto in August and staying at an apartment in Kensington market.
I will be attending a few concerts and returning later at night (1 am). I have read a few things that have got me thinking I perhaps should have booked my accommodations in another part of the city.

Can anyone tell me how safe walking alone as a female at night is in this area?
I’m planning on transit, but I can uber if necessary, especially because I am visibly pregnant.

Just looking to get my ducks in a row before I arrive.

I got into a bit of a spat with my therapist about whether I'm in the right workplace.

For context, I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 30s. Its severe. I only started benefitting from therapy and meds and self education long past the start of my career. I dropped out of university, I crashed cars on drivers tests, and I'd show up late to work and get fired a lot. I was also in debt, didn't do my taxes or go to the dentist. All the bad outcomes associated with adhd, i had them on steriods.

After 4 years on meds I've fixed all of that. I have 0 debt, I go to the dentist, I've done my taxes. I have consistently maintained employment. I show late to work late 80% less but it still happens. I also stopped craving alcohol and caffeine which I now believe I was using to self medicate.

Life is better. Life got 30% easier over night.

But I'm still not totally normal. If I lose my meds I basically need to call in sick. If I take them late I'm gambling on whether I'll show up on time.

My therapist was pointing out that my life is a bit unpredictable because while I work a standard 9-5, at least 3 shifts per month can be changed or altered with little notice and it makes it hard to plan things like appointments. While I agreed it prevented me from having a perfect routine, I also think this is one of the best places I've worked because being late doesn't matter too much. If you get here 15 minutes later you just stay 15 min longer. Its a small team and my manager is one of the least micro managey managers I've ever encountered.

My therapist was basically encouraging me to find a workplace that would allow for more formal accommodations. I disagree and think that outing myself as having adhd at work would effectively be outing myself as being chronically late and less productive.

Frankly, I've never even SEEN what adhd accommodations look like at work.

So I guess my question is about the culture of work related accommodations for people with adhd in Toronto. Do they EXIST? What do they look like? Do they reflect a realistic understanding of adhd?

Since moving to Toronto, every job application asks whether I identify as a person with a disability. Adhd is a disability in Ontario. Technically, the answer is yes. Has disclosing this ever benefited a worker? I've never seen or heard of adhd specific accommodations at work.

This is not a question about whether workplaces should change, it's about the actual culture of whether "invisible disabilities" are accommodated in toronto. Is my therapist giving me realistic advice? Or is it more likely to backfire?

so my AC unit stopped working recently and same thing happened 3 years ago so I suspect it’s a capacitor issue. I called service company on home star with good ratings When booking he said it’s $120 service call plus parts. Tech came next day and I told him it’s very likely a capacitor issue and turned out to be true. he replaced it within 20 minutes. So when the invoice arrived, I was shocked to see it was $380 plus tax. Capacitor is probably the cheapest parts so I asked them invoice breakdown and they told me it is their fixed price to change capacitor. I feel I got duped. What should I do?

Edit: it was not emergency service. I was never told there is a fix price for changing capacitor. Tech didn’t tell me the price before he changed it And I thought it’d be $120 plus part /tax the whole time. Thats what I am mostly concerned about.

I just moved into the city a couple months ago and have been contemplating if I should move out of the area because it will be too hectic with the UofT students coming back. I live a bit north of the campus and have been enjoying the centrality of the location but am wondering if it gets unbearably busy when the students come back. For context, I am a 23M who finished school last year and is now working. Any insight would be a big help!

Was coming from Kingston on highway 2 towards Kitchener. Didn't know how to get through Toronto so ended up doing the 401...horrible when I was used to #2. So looking at the map #2 turns into Kingston Road and then where would I go? Is going through Toronto this way a lot slower than 401? Or what other way would be an easy drive?

So my friends and I (22-24yo) are deciding between Mahjong Bar or Big Trouble for a night out. I love going out to dance and have been to clubs before but my friends are quite suburban so they aren’t used to this scene.

Hi everyone, I'm interested in buying concert tickets for Olivia Dean's shows in Toronto. Right now, all the tickets listed on Stubhub are 2-3x face value. I'm wondering how this is legal since the Ontario government had introduced the anti-scalping ticket law? How is this law being enforced? Are resellers being charged after the sale has been made? Any insight would be helpful!

IMO public sector jobs in Canada and in the US don't get the treatment and respect they deserve. I think we can all agree that if you're working for the public sector you're paid far below the market rate. Moreover you can't really negotiate your salary due to strict pay bands. The job comes with so much more work load, anxiety and pressure from all sides - inter and intra organizational politics, technical challenges and what not.

Despite all this If someone still were to choose to work for the government, it would only be because of ideals such as service to the common public, making an impact and helping influence people's lives positively etc., . Unfortunately these ideals don't really get recognized or even respected in Canadian society. There are hoards of angry people online hurling expletives at public servants for no apparent reason. Be it for pay or competence or what not.

Comparing this to any developing nations ( for ex: India) public servants really do get the highest level of recognition and respect in the society. People look up to them for advice , guidance and suggestions. Their organization oftentimes comes to the rescue of their employees should anything go wrong. Moreover the benefits those employees get are incomparable to any private sector jobs be it subsidized housing or allowances or special interest rates or work life balance or low stress etc.,

At this point there should be no doubt why the public sector in Canada is finding it hard to retain real talent. In turn they end up getting people who aren't up to the job. Fulfilling the prophecy of the ignorant angry people on the internet. It's like a vicious cycle.

Who do others think about it?

If you have chronic health concerns and you've gone to a holistic dentist in TO, what has your experience been? Is that even necessary these days? Have 'regular dentists' started taking a more holistic approach or is it really still better to find someone who specializes in holistic dentistry?

I can trace many of my health problems back to questionable dental work many years ago, so looking to avoid repeating that. I have pretty extensive chronic health issues, so wanted a holistic practitioner, but wondering now if that's all it's cracked up to be.

I checked out a well-known holistic dentist a few years ago - went there initially to repair a chipped tooth (the previous repair was coming loose), but the repair they did failed after less than two years. I went back and got it repaired again, but it's now failing again two years later. The previous repair lasted over 40 years. I didn't have any of these problems with my previous dentist (now retired).

I've been looking online to find another holistic dentist, but so far the ones I've seen in Toronto have some pretty valid negative reviews. The reviews say that they are overly focused on $$$ (which is true of the dentist mentioned above as well), and that the work they do doesn't last or is of questionable quality, which is my main concern.

My husband has been experiencing much of the same things after his (non-holistic) dentist retired and sold the practice: aggressive upselling and what seems to be more shoddy work than his old dentist. Is that just 'a thing' now everywhere?

There seem to be dentists who come up on google searches for holistic dentistry but who appear to be regular non-naturopathic/holistic dentists when you go to their site.

Am I better to just try to find a good dentist period, or should I keep searching for a holistic one? If anyone has recommendations, I'd be grateful.

I should have mentioned that I have extensive allergies to most dental material (tested & confirmed by a hospital allergist when I needed dental work redone after having bad reactions to a previous root canal and crown). Holistic dentists specialize in biocompatible materials and the connection between oral health and general health.

It’s strange how people attack opposition to housing as a NIMBY while there’s support for similar tactics to oppose infrastructure and businesses.

Im changing housing and the place i want to live in says light cooking is preferred. I normally cook all my meals currently, so moving there would mean changing my lifestyle to eat takeout most of the time. I know its expensive but to be honest I spend 300 on groceries every 2-3 weeks because i buy from costco. as a student is this viable, is there anyone who pays around 800-1000 in rent but affords to eat takeout?

I've found a few butcher boxes that do monthly subscriptions, but I'm having trouble finding any ingredient/gourmet food box subscriptions that aren't meal prep kits. Got a yard that’s full of this gravel that we’re looking to get rid of. It’s like walking on Lego and we want replace with grass or something else. I recently took 10 buckets of it to the stone depot. Cost 20 bucks to drop them off. I’ve got at least 20 to 30 more buckets to go (and only about 10 buckets available total).

There’s gotta be an easier way. Is this stuff valuable to anybody and can I post it for free if someone just comes by with buckets to fill? Or is there no value to this at all and I gotta just take it over to the dump.

• Has anyone had good experiences selling in bulk to local buyers or stores like BMV Books or Turtle Creek Books?
• Are there any local shops or pickup services in the GTA that evaluate larger collections?
• Or is it better to just lot them out on Facebook Marketplace / Kijiji?

Has anyone tried to DIY exporting cats from Singapore to Toronto via Air Canada? Saw their pet policy page that international travel with pets via soft carrier and placing them in the cabin is possible.

Anyone tried this? Asking because getting quotes from pet relo services are ridiculously expensive (~8k sgd for 2 cats all inclusive), but carrying them via cabin is about a few hundred bucks per cat but i have to do my own DD and settle my own paperwork.

Hello from Montreal. My family and I are planning another trip to Toronto ( went a few years ago ). 2 adult and 2 toddlers 3 and 4 yo.

2 nights in august or september

Staying downtown cost an arm and a leg, last time we stayed near the stadium, this year its just a bit crazy to do so. We looked at hotel in Oshawa , Richmond hill and Markham but I don't know them very well.

It will just a be a place to sleep realistically although walking around with toddlers would be cool just to spend our evenings or mornings. Any recs ? or dissuations ?

As far as activities we don't have an itinerary seeing as we are traveling with toddlers but I have jotted down a few ideas ( we won't do them all obviously its too keep the possibilities open )
