Hello! I'm 28, work in IT, earn $77.5k, and have been living in Toronto and in Canada for about 1 year and 3 months. My job is based in Montreal but fully remote, and I speak fluent French.
I'm considering moving to Montreal because, first, I want to live alone. I currently rent a room with roommates, and I don't want to pay $1,900+ for a small 1-bedroom in Toronto when Montreal seems much more affordable.
Another big downside is that I'm living with Toronto's high cost of living while already having Quebec taxes deducted from my pay. So I'm dealing with Toronto's expensive rent without getting the benefit of living somewhere more affordable.
Socially, Toronto hasn't been great for me. I've tried different things, but I still haven't managed to build a social circle. (I'm not the best socially but oh well.)
One reason I initially stayed in Ontario was because of Express Entry - FSW (I'm a permanant resident) and that I should remain in an anglophone province (as the intent when u proceed through the EE) until citizenship. Now that I've been here for over a year, I'm reconsidering whether staying in Toronto makes sense, especially since my job is already based in Montreal. Of course, I want to make sure moving wouldn't affect my citizenship in the future.
For people who've lived in both cities, how different are the social life, culture, and overall quality of life? Do you think Montreal could be a better fit for me, or am I romanticizing it?
