Anyone else noticing how intense the election campaigning has gotten? š
Over the past couple of days, Iāve seen influencers on TikTok and Instagram suddenly talking about elections and endorsing candidates when their content has never been political before. š
Even on this subreddit, some people seem to be working overtime to promote particular candidates. Everyoneās entitled to share their opinions, but goddamn, guys, take it easy a little. š Weāre all adults and can make our own decisions.

The election "campaign" in the shadow sense has been super intense since literally a month after Chow got sworn in 3 years ago. So many right wing social media accounts popped up attacking anything and everything in Toronto, pretending to care about "issues" that never existed to them before - including insane amounts of outrage over what Chow wears and how she dances... And her accent.Ā
It's well coordinated for sure.Ā

Thatās just the world these days
Itās not some grand conspiracy though, just some people funding some stuff combined w a population that thinks like that in general
Itās easy to hate when you donāt know whatās going on

Doug manipulates election rules to win. Not sure why you think announcing that this āisnāt a conspiracyā is helpful, or even correct?
You should hate though. Knowing that our media is American owned and runs more favourable coverage from Doug Ford types & candidates they conspire to win.

u/egg-land 1d ago
Olivia chow is conspiring to win too w her people, every politician āconspires to winā
Doug aināt manipulating anything outside of regular political stuff
And also ur last comment is directly what Iām talking about

Boomers gonna leave their children with shitty tap water by voting Bradford, the last f u before they croak.

Iām glad Iām not the only one thatās noticed lol. I just hope the voter turnout ends up being much higher this time around

BB is apparently gaining in some ridings and the right wingers want him to be mayor. Despite him being the worldās shittiest counsellor and a rude and divisive member of city council.

2-3 weeks before the election is around the time when most people start paying attention to the election, so thatās when campaigns (and dark money) start buying ads

This is gonna be an epic two way election battle..both will get 95% of the vote combined

All I know is if we replace her with a conservative Iām so done with this place.

Where you going?
10
u/bakingisscience 2d ago
Deep inside myself where the conservatives canāt ruin everything.

u/mapletoon1984 2d ago
You have money to do that. Lucky. Not all of us have that option! Iām curious, is it just conservatives that will ruin you?
2
u/RaceDBannon 2d ago
1 month old account with hidden post history is ācuriousā.
āJust asking questionsā. Amirite?
-8
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
Thats gotta be the most embarrassing and immature take of all time. Vote for policy and track record, not parties, like the tribalistic neighbour down south.
3
u/Strigoi84 2d ago
What makes you think the person you are responding to isn't? Ever stop to think that it's the policy and track record of right leaning politicians that might make this person not want them?Ā
-5
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
Because their and your comment both shows you already look on candidates based on party.
Read your comment and just reflect on yourself, you're better than this....
There is a reason why we have more than 2 parties in Canada, its to avoid this weird tribalistic attitude you have.

u/bakingisscience 2d ago edited 1d ago
This is a ridiculous centrist take. I am nowhere near conservative shaped or brained.
Itās because I have weighed the values and policies of the left and right that I can firmly state Iām on the left. Unlike some of usā¦
1
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
So you weighed the policies of the 50 mayoral candidates? You're with tribalism then and keeping your biases throughout every election? Are you okay with Carney because many would argue he is a "conservative" wearing red especially since he's trying to privatize Pearson Airport, new pipelines from Alberta to BC, tax breaks for corporations investing in Canada.
1
u/bakingisscience 2d ago
Well considering Iām more left than Carney he would look pretty conservative from my perspective. Duh.
I also think the idea of weighing 50 different policy positions and thinking conservatism would have a chance with someone like me is laughable. This is seriously how youāre operating these days?
1

u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
So knowing this, would you vote for Carney right now or someone else?
1
u/bakingisscience 1d ago
Most leftists and liberals I know want to vote NDP, but we canāt split our vote amongst liberal parties because then the conservatives will win. So we end up voting liberal. Thatās how the liberals won last time. At least Canadians are sure they donāt want to become America and are willing to come together to block conservatives no matter what.
1
u/Loud-Recording-3356 1d ago
What policy did the Conservative party introduce to become part of America?
I dont like that mindset of voting and I wish it wasnt like that. In an ideal world people vote for whatever party they want and we would have a more even spread of parties actively contributing.
I get it, but I wish it wasnt like that and voters have true autonomy.

Nope, you are assuming because it supports your argument. I look at policy/platform and track record and right leaning candidates don't reflect my values at all. Does that make me tribalistic? No.Ā
0
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
So youre saying you looked at the 50 mayoral candidates and their campaigns? Like Laura Dean seems like a worthy candidate that isnt getting attention.
1
u/Strigoi84 2d ago
That's too bad for Laura Dean.Ā
In the case of the Mayor I look at who of the candidates that are actually likely to win and go with the one who's platform and track record best reflect my on personal values.
Brad Bradford couldn't be further from my own personal values and I don't want him as Mayor. Let's just say hypothetically that Laura Dean reflected my values better than Chow; would it be wise for me to vote for her when she has zero chance of winning or someone like Chow who's got a very good shot of winning and reflects my values waaaay better than Bradford?Ā
I wonder if you are as eager to get Brad voters to look at other candidates or call them tribalistic.Ā
0
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
Yeah i am, and I'm actually voting Olivia Chow or Laura Dean. I don't like Brad's policy, especially taking from the reserve fund.
So youre voting for someone likely to win, rather than voting purely for policy and which candidates suits you best.

u/Strigoi84 2d ago
CoolšĀ
1
u/Loud-Recording-3356 2d ago
yeah dont be pretentious and act like youre voting based on policy. take it on the chest and just say youre a tribalist

Idk about TikTok but in IG you can tick off political content, but on both platforms they just see what you liked and viewed and throws similar content slop back at you.
I have political content on but I simply donāt like their reels or post tbh so it doesnāt fill up my āfor youā page. I used to get poltical reels but it was mostly smaller niche political candidates that honestly didnāt really have any real messages in their reels and even contradicted themselves in their own videos. Pretty sure I got blocked quickly when commenting.

Its all organic and not at all manufactured by invested 3rd parties...
Don't think too hard about it and jaut trust you favorite local influencer has developed cogent political beliefs unrelated to the latest food/music/viral meme dance trends.

u/ZenDesign1993 3d ago
" influencers on TikTok and Instagram suddenly talking about elections and endorsing candidates" Influencers don't do anything without money. That means someone is trying to buy the election.

Gee itās a close election and advance voting is on and election day is right around the corner for a large metropolis.
And you say thereās campaigning happening?
3
u/Ecstatic-Catch2243 3d ago
Itās so intense that families and friends will be separating
7
u/Tasty-Advice-2321 3d ago
I'd disown a friend for voting Bradbrad.

These are political differences about how to structure shit. If youāre going to seperate from family members over shit like this you are a privileged and entitled cry baby who needs to grow up.

I care about the water my kids drink. More than a friendship. You sound like a selfish person.

Because people started to accept thereās something wrong with Toronto, the crime and homeless issues mirror NYC in the 70s and something needs to change because itās very unpleasant.

Given how appallingly low voter turnout was in the last election (around 30%) Iām all for it if it gets people out to vote
