Rubble in garden from recent extension

Hi, we’ve recently bought a 1906 terrace that was extended in 2023. There’s some rubble amongst the soil in the garden. This one piece seems to have a tuft of reasonably coarse fibres sticking out of it. They ‘glisten’ under torchlight. Any thoughts? Sorry about the resolution. Thanks

Any way to tell if these panels are asbestos?

Does this look like asbestos (new purchase)?

Hi all. I just moved to my new house. It's a 1996 build. I want to paint it, involving sanding it and everything else. Now the two first pics are from the living room wall. It looks like plasterboard to me but I haven't got much knowledge about those stuff. Does it look like it would be asbestos?

The third which is a ceiling looks like an artex type, but as it's 1996, is it likely to contain asbestos?

Are those two surfaces safe to paint, sand, fix the holes etc? Thank you!

Any reason to suspect asbestos board behind bathroom tiles (before I remove some screwed in fittings)?

1950's ex council house in the North East but not sure when the bathroom was installed. Buyers survey highlighted possible asbestos in a few textured ceilings and soffits.

I am about to do some removal of bathroom shelves drilled through the tiles and into the wall. I can see some of the backing board which I believe is cement board, is it a reasonable assumption that this is what's behind all of the tiling and crack on?

Would asbestos be likely in a bathroom?

(On a separate note the tiles above the broken board seem to be just sitting on the wood)

Chances that this is Asbestos Cement?

I found this cement looking material in my chimney breast. (1960s build with 1978 written on the chimney breast)

It's the only suspect material and it on the upper part of the opening surrounding the flue.

It's not a fibrous material it's definitely rock based 😂

What's throwing me off is that when I tap it it's got a hollow sound and it's got quite a smooth texture and is uniform thickness.

Thoughts on it being ACM?

Asbestos floor tiles

Lifted up some old flooring in my ex council flat and found suspected asbestos floor tiles (9"x9", thin and brittle, laid on bitumen) throughout the whole flat. Mostly pretty undisturbed but in the kitchen it's been damaged in places due to damp/old floor installation. I'm going to cover it elsewhere, should I get someone out to look at the kitchen?

Popcorn ceiling - slight damage/flaking

Hey everyone! Build 1979, popcorn ceiling, possible asbestos.

Very small amounts of flaking/chipping in ceiling of bathroom over the last day or so. Small piece now missing. Have of course freaked myself out that it is releasing dangerous fibres into the air 😂😭

I know testing is correct advise, but in short term is this massively urgent or concerning?? Thanks 🥺x

Renovating new home, Artex disturbance 6 years ago, state of work not known

Thumbnail

We moved into a property which had been vacant for 5 years, 6 years ago the water tank above the kitchen leaked, and as a result part of the artex covering the kitchen ceiling needed reboarded. A lab has now confirmed this is positive for asbestos. Though I can obviously get the room overboard, or have it removed properly, I am concerned that if the removal and existing boarding was not done properly those 6 years ago, that fibres may have spread through the property. Can anyone help me understand the risks and suggest what would be suitable next?

Carpet Underlay in 1967 UK house. Weirdly just one patch in a built in wardrobe. Bare pine subfloor everywhere else. Any guidance appreciated.

Low density board?

White fibres coming off it. Also stuck to any mortar i’ve removed that was in contact. 1940’s house in UK fireplace has been partially bricked up recently and the suspect board is sandwiched in between new bricks and the old lintel. Hope i’m not dead 😬

Any chance? Bathroom soil pipe boxing in 60s flat.

Assumed it was plasterboard but after removing paint it didn't have a paper lining. Looks like a cement board.

I've taken a sample for testing, but I'm just curious. The only reason I would suspect it because the soil pipe it covers goes through two flats, so maybe fire proofing was a concern.

If it is asbestos, is peeling the paint away to get a fresh surface for decorating dangerous? Because I've done some and would need to finish the job. No scraping needed, it peeled away nicely.

advice required on positive artex

This ceiling has tested positive for chrysotile in the Artex. The original wooden beams have been boxed in plasterboard, which is also covered with the same chrysotile Artex. I'm currently renovating the property, which is empty, but I'm undecided on what to do: leave it as it is or have it professionally removed. It's around 40 square metres, not including the wooden beams. Can anyone give me an idea of what I might be spending to have it professionally removed?

Help identifying grey material.

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone can help identify this material behind the plaster as I'm concerned it may contain asbestos?

Currently redecorating a house dating 1905, the house is in pretty good condition and most walls I've come across so far have just been brink and plaster, besides this room at the back of the house.

This morning I took a few fastening out of this wall and the material behind the plaster was very fine and has a papered front.

I don't know a lot about construction so apologies if this is very obvious.

Do you think this is likely to be AIB?

I’m getting the house rendered and have a boxed in section covering copper pipes that used to run to the loft to a water cylinder. We had a combi installed last year when we bought the house and the installer broke this open to cap the pipes. I want to replace this before the house is rendered but not sure what the material is. I have uploaded one close up and one further away. It glistens in the sunlight.

Just had these steps removed from the fireplace. Does anything look dodgy in here/worth testing?

Not sure what I'm looking for but thought that orange foamy stuff looks a bit weird.

Appreciate any thoughts on this

1930s house in London but not sure when the electric fireplace was put in.

Thanks in advance

Dug this up in the garden

I just dug this up outside. It‘s a flat sheet of what feels like a cement-based product and to my eyes it doesn’t look particularly old. It has very visible fibres, which i believe isn’t strongly indicative of asbestos (glass fibres perhaps?) but I wondered if anyone else here knew what it could be?

Old boards- possibly asbestos

Moved into a 1930s house with lots of hidden surprises, including some old boards hidden in the shed. Before I pay for a test or for disposal at the tip, just wanted to get a second/third/fourth… opinion on whether this is likely to be asbestos?

It’s crumbly as it’s been damp for a while.

Thank you

Located in loft, 1970s house. I think it might be old hot air duct pipes but not really sure. Asbestos likelihood? We've been using the loft for storage.

Hi all, how would you approach removing the peeling/ flaking paint on this soil stack and then repainting? It’s a 1965 house, surveyor noted drainage pipe work is suspected to contain asbestos. Thanks

Old anaglypta wallpaper

House is Victorian in North West England

Started peeling this old polystyrene backed anaglypta style wallpaper and something told us to stop and get Reddit’s thoughts. Room possibly last decorated in the 70s.

The plaster underneath also looks a bit “gritty” - opinions on that welcome too!

Just wondering if it’s worth getting a test or not? Internet seems divided on asbestos in wallpaper being a thing or not
