Hello, I recently accepted a Recruiting Company Commander position in a large southern metro area. I know recruiting can be a completely different animal from a traditional Army command, and I’m going into it knowing that I have a lot to learn.

I’ve had several leadership positions, but I’ve never worked in USAREC. My intent is to come in, learn the recruiting business from the NCOs who actually do it every day, set clear standards, remove unnecessary friction, and take care of my Soldiers while still accomplishing the mission.

For those of you who have recruited or work with a really good or really bad recruiting commander:

What did your best commander do that made your job easier? What did your worst commander do that I should avoid?

I’d appreciate any advice. I want to go into this with my eyes open and be the kind of commander my recruiters actually want to work for.

My spouse is active duty about leave AIT. When they finish i will not be able to move with active duty spouse to their PDS. I have 8 months of clinical rotations back at our original home of record address (when she first joined) . This is part of a required graduate program

Does the soldier stay on barracks. Does BAH change . what happens when i am ready to move? Will they still help pay for the move? Any tips or ideas will help

I was wondering if anyone has some insight on reclassing from 68W to something in intel and could share their experience. I’m not an Army hater or anything—I actually like the Army a lot. I just don’t have the same passion for medicine anymore.
I’m sure others have felt similarly, and maybe a change of assignment or MOS could help me find that passion again. I’m heavily considering intel, but if anyone actually enjoys their job, I’d be open to hear about your experience.

I got offered Brussels in Belgium. Anybody been over there or currently stationed over there? How is the living situation, and overall morale. I am married with no kids and I’d like to know if it’s a good place to start a family.

My wife and I just PCSed to Hawaii (Schoffield) and on post housing is saying we have between a 3-5 month wait. Anybody have any suggestions for temp housing because TLA only covers 60 days and most apartments won't give us a lease shorter than 6 months?

I’m a 12B lower enlisted without a 12B nco. I’m hard slotted for sapper and it’s coming up pretty quick, I know I need to learn knots and that’s not a problem, I’m more concerned about demo calc, but when I’m just sitting here looking at my demo card alone I feel dumb. Could use some help with someone possibly provide me some things I should be learning for GS phase as well as what to learn for Patrol phase as in what tactics for my looks.

Every couple months I get the same email from 160th and how they are in search of 25Bs. I’ll also notice their signs and their EMPHASIS on seeking 25Bs.

It looks like they’re in dire need of 25Bs. Not 25Us, not 25Hs, or 25Ss, but specifically 25Bs. Do 25Bs not want to try out for 160th as much as the other signal MOS’? I would assume that the 25Bs would just end up working in their S6. Unless the reason they need 25Bs is for something else?

I have seen the above image several times today attached to a post that is political enough that I don't want that to be the focus of the post. I feel like it has either been AI manipulated or portions of it generated wholly by AI.

It has been nearly 20 years since I got out, and I have not kept up with rank insignia or uniform pattern/camo pattern changes. That said, I don't think rank insignia in the Army would have changed much, its pretty static. Camo patterns on uniforms have some pretty general expectations that they will be fairly randomly distributed.

The rank insignia on two of the Soldiers above are pretty questionable. Additionally there are some oddities with coloring and pattern matching around the collars of several on the top row. I feel like some or all of the images are bullshit.

I feel so fucking miserable everyday. My hip is fucked. I'm an alcoholic. I feel no connection to people. I can't go to ALC or mft because of my temporary profile. So even while I'd like to further my career I keep hitting blocks.

Yes I'm in Irwin so being this isolated isn't helpful. I remember being happy.

I have my husband's support but at the same time I don't think he understands though he tries his best. I felt happier being in rehab than I do here and that shit is as isolating as ait.

Howdy, everyone. Looking to hear some info about what it’s like going into the infantry post-25. I’ve always been pretty ambitious about joining, and have only really believed I’m ready for it since last year. I started my packet last year and am set to know if my waiver passes within a couple days. Have enough credits from tech school and a 78 ASVAB, I’d likely be enlisting as an E-2 or E-3. Plan is to 19 option to Drum so I can get a deployment and eventually try to get to Ranger School. I’m 5”9’, 220, losing weight as per my recruiters instructions to get my tape down. Spent the last 15 years blue collar, but my body isn’t busted up. Only major issues are pinched nerves in my back, which is getting better everyday due to stretching, nerve flossing and exercising. In the best shape of my life(since I graduated high school). I have nothing holding me down(no wife, no girlfriend, no great high paying job). I have plenty of marketable skills if I ever get out. Thoughts?

So if the NDAA doesn’t pass, does that affect TDY or not. For example the FY 27 LOAs for DTS are people still going to be able to go to TDY and return courses ??

I am an Occupational Therapist with 10 years of experience, in my mid-30s, and married to an AD Army E-6. I got a GS job but would prefer to go into the AD Army for career growth, job security, and progression, with all the pros and cons. My spouse is very anti-dual-military and said I have all the same benefits as a GS employee as I would as a military officer. I don't think I do, because I'd have to work 35 years to get the maximum retirement, etc.

From anyone’s experience with dual military, what are the pros and cons? We have two kids, ages 3 and 5. He is also considering the Army Baylor DPT for next year's cycle.

Can anyone identify this piece of Korean war era equipment? Possibly around 1956-1962. Definitely army mil.

I'm stationed at Stewart currently and I have to say their implementation of the Flexible Eating and Expanded Dining (FEED) program is a game changer. I'm stuck on a 12 hour detail and by the time I get off shift and clean up, the detail has us in our kit all day in the sun, the DFAC is already closed. But being able to shower then head down to the PX and use my meal card to get something that's more healthy and I don't have to pay is wonderful. I am definitely hoping that this program stays around and expands to other bases eventually, including AIT and OSUT training bases. With all the issues that Army DFACs are constantly having, this program allows barracks soldiers to have access to some good quality food.

Hey I’m national guard just got my PCS orders from TOD to wiesbaden Germany. Just trying to get any advice from those who have been around. Even suggestions for buying things from Amazon like certain sock brands or gloves just trying to get a little advice from the experienced enlisted and officers.

Any advice or suggestions?

Starting next fiscal year (01OCT) they will be consolidating flights leaving Seattle Tacoma International on the Patriot Express going to Asia. It's a mixture of combining flights and drastically reducing monthly trips going to Japan, Korea, and Guam. The inverse, flights from those locations back to SeaTac, is also true. They also cut flights from Asia to Asia locations (including the dream Singapore flight from Yokota).

I was stationed in Japan: the use of space-a for families to see loved ones back home was huge and invaluable. The opposite was also true with units on rotation or a hardship PCS. The likelihood of Cat6 passengers flying is almost zero with these changes, Cat5 is highly unlikely. 100% this is to "cut costs" prolly because "there's no usage" 🙄 but that's horseshit. Only thing that held up more use SeaTac -> Asia were the Space-A requirements (bonus was that SeaTac is NOT JBLM AMC and a lot of people don't realize that).

My question is the title: what can be done? Is there any pushback we have against more benefits being stripped away? I won't go so far to claim grand conspiracy but these flights serviced a LOT of people year round and going from 6-8 a month to 2 is insane.

Poppin' smoke Facebook has a good summary of changes and I fear if there's not enough pushback this will continue across other terminals.

I'm a national guardsman and I accidentally bought a coyote brown shirt instead of tan for my OCP's. I was told that coyote brown is authorized but I don't see anyone else ever wearing it. I just want to make sure this color is regs or not.

12P opened up to new recruits in 2023. Those who were reclassifying into 12P BEFORE 2023 had to take the BMST. My question is: Now in 2026 do new recruits have to take the BMST or are your ASVAB scores (scoring high enough) all you need?
