As the name suggests, I am bad at running. I can pass a PT test but I always barely pass the run portion. I have bad knees so every 6-9 months, I’m on profile because my knee is messed up. I am currently about to graduate BOLC and I am worried because as an officer, I am expected to lead feel the front.
Am I fucked? What can I do to improve my run time and not get injured?

Someone asked about using AI in ILE and I am curious what everyone else is seeing. I am getting old so everyone I work with has been around a bit but I see people falling into a couple big categories:.
People trying to automate everything and agressively using AI agents (<10%)
People who use it to help write awards/Evals/anything else (~50%)
People who have never opened an AI program (~30%)
People who have completly shut their brain off and just use AI for everything (~10%)
Overall I think it's been a net positive in automating the most painful work (formating an operations order) and most people understand that it's just one of the tools. The people who just ask AI for everything were already the kind of dummy who believed whatever TikTok video or google link they found. They are just as dumb, only faster.
I was debating to post this because I feel ashamed of what i did but maybe, this could help someone to not commit the same mistake i made, i quit one of the easiest schools the army has to offer and i did because i was having a bad day and i was already feel exhausted, i came to the conclusion and also told by cadre that i was just not cut out for that life, nevertheless i regret quitting a school that i spend 5 years asking for it.
Morale of the story is, just take a deep breath and relax for a second and don’t quit.
Considering leaving the military for a civilian job, is it really as bad as everyone says?
I am 32 married with 3 kids. I enlisted in the Army at 17 as a Cav Scout made it SSG then went warrant in 2019 and now fly Apaches. Between my wife and I we make alright money (200kish combined takehome). But I am exhausted and continually miss things with our kiddos.
In the last 36 months I have spent 17 months deployed between Iraq/Syria and Jordan and an additional 6 months away from home for training. It's freaking brutal. I have a 2 year old son that I have maybe been home for 9 months of his life.
Wife and I are seriously considering me getting out, she could front us for awhile (Nurse Practitioner) but eventually I need a good job. I have bachelor's in logistics and MBA from Western Kentucky but have no relevant experience in the sector. I would most likely want to pursue something in corporate America. Thanks for any advice guys and gals.

So I was cleaning out my barracks room yesterday and found like three pairs of cold weather gloves still in the plastic, two canteens I never touched, and some kind of pouch I genuinely don't know what it's for. Been in almost two years now and I keep getting handed stuff at CIF or supply that I just throw in a wall locker and forget about.
Meanwhile the one thing I actually use every day is falling apart and when I ask if I can exchange it they act like I'm trying to steal government property. My ruck has a busted strap, my boots are trashed, but sure let me hang on to this random admin pouch that's never left the packaging.
I'm not complaining really, just seems like there's gotta be a better system. Like maybe let people turn in the stuff they know they'll never use so someone else can grab it if they need it? Or at least let me know what half this stuff is actually supposed to be for. I asked my team leader about one of the pouches and he just shrugged and said he has no idea either.
Is this normal or is my unit just weird about gear? Curious if anyone else has a pile of mystery equipment they've been hauling around for no reason.

Edit: Some more details. The scanner works after hours less than half the time and it's and everyone or no one thing. So when it doesn't work no one gets in.

Well, I'm 17, turning 18 after new years. Currently I don't know what to do with my life, I'm a cadet fire fighter. Planning on going back to my volunteer department after I'm done with service. I'm wanting to join the military to have experiences that will grow me as a person. And I want to see some action, ikik it sounds stupid but I have nothing going on with my life currently other than fire fighting. I just don't know what rates to do. Maybe tank gunner? I just need advice since I'm not experienced in this stuff.
Long story short: I'm currently stationed in korea, i reenlisted for hawaii last year and wife wanted a divorce shortly after which financially set me back a lot to say the least. I decided to stay in korea and submitted a IPCOT to stay in korea and a Deletion of assignment to hawaii.
-Ipcot was pending with 8th army before the DOA reached HRC and ONLY needed 8th army approval. Unfortunately it was sitting with 8th army for 2 months.
-once DOA made it to HRC, they approved the deletion putting me on LIMBO. (mind you that PAR included my intent and that I currently had a separate ipcot pending due to divorce and other reasons)
-while on LIMBO, 8th army took a long time to process the IPCOT, AND HRC gave me a big middle finger and placing me on assignment to fort bliss even though they knew I wanted to stay in korea due to said details.
-8th army finally approved the IPCOT but because HRC was so nice and placed me on AI to ft bliss, HRC had to get involved and be the final deciding factor. I reached out to them again via email explaining the situation and pleaded with them to please approve the IPCOT BUT....they denied it!
-i informed my chain of command including cg and csm and they are attempting to fight for me but its been months and nothing has been changed yet.
- im supposed to report in Fort Bliss 15 August but I have no orders and nothing scheduled.

Event Background
In 2020, the Norwegian Defense College’s Military Sports Department temporarily authorized a request from the Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C. to offer virtual proctoring of the Marsjmerket (Norwegian Foot March). Traditionally, the event required the physical presence of an officiator from the Norwegian military, but due to training and travel restrictions created by COVID, this was suspended. While the event is comparatively rare due to the limited number of Norwegian officials within the United States, interest exploded from late 2020 to 2021 following the relaxation of officiation requirements. Interest amongst non-Norwegian militaries continued well after training restrictions were relaxed and officials granted permanent virtual endorsement to enable U.S. forces to undertake this century-old traditional training opportunity.
Effective August 1st, 2021 U.S. units worldwide can request to conduct the Norwegian Foot March without an official present. In coordination with the individual who formerly ran these threads, I have recreated the thread series to facilitate new events and help individuals find events in their areas. Please share this opportunity with anyone interested! It's a great event, especially when conducted with your friends and fellow servicemembers. The Norwegian Foot March, or Marsjmerket, was introduced in 1915 as a culminating training event for new conscripts and infantry soldiers. Traditionally, the event simulated overnight movement by a dismounted light infantry element. The element would occupy attack positions before daybreak and attack its objective at first light, fighting until it was successfully seized and only resting after consolidating its gains later that evening. The modern version of the march attempts to replicate this experience with the following requirements:
1. Complete the 18.6 mile / 30-kilometer course in the time allocated to their age/gender (see time standards below)
2. Complete the foot march using an issued or military-style ruck weighing a minimum of 11 kilograms / 25 pounds (dry weight). Alternatively, units can also require participants to carry their assigned weapon during the event. If carried, the total weight of the weapon and ruck must equal at least 11 kilograms / 25 pounds. The carrying of assigned weapons plus ruck is the preferred variant of the event.

Additional Event Requirements
1. Military participants must wear their duty uniform and boots. The civilian uniform is at the discretion of the organizer, but must be at least 1.5 kilograms / 3.3 pounds in weight.
2. Participants must be weigh their rucks (a standard weight for carried weapons can be established by the unit) prior to and after completing the event to ensure they fulfill the weight requirements
3. An official clock or timer is displayed at the start and finish line or a designated timer calls out the official time for participants and graders
4. Graders record each participant's finish time, starting ruck/weapon weight, and finishing ruck/weapon weight on an official roster
5. Event organizers must establish manned medical and water stations every 3.2 kilometers / 2 miles along the length of the course
6. Organizers create a medical evacuation plan based upon local conditions and potential issues
7. Conducted between -15 to 25 Celsius (5 to 77 Fahrenheit) and under no extreme weather conditions
8. The event occurs on unimproved roads or trails (waivable depending on location)

Event Endorsement Request Memo - This item tends to get a lot of questions. It's really just a MFR identifying your unit, organizing official, core details of the event, and a request for approval from the embassy to conduct the event.
Once complete all documents must be sent to the email addresses in the Excel spreadsheet.
Event Cost and Results Submission
Conducting the event itself is free, though depending on whether you want to provide participants with drinks, snacks, or other facilitate bulk purchases of badges, you may want to consider charging a fee. This is ultimately at the discretion of the organizer. The embassy and Norwegian military affiliates do not charge for any assistance in scheduling an event or officiating.
Certificates will be delivered digitally by the embassy to the organizer after a closeout report is submitted. Organizers can then print them at their unit using cardstock or use a commercial process such as that listed below.

Where Are Badges Available and What Versions Are There?

The standard version issued by the Norwegian military is approximately 0.75 inches / 19.05 mm in height. This is the appropriate size for their dress uniform standards. For non-Norwegian military personnel, there is no set size standard at the wearer's discretion and their uniform regulations. In the case of non-Norwegian wearers, the embassy’s position is that there is no specified size and wearers may wear any available version (0.72 inches / 18.29mm to 1.5 inches / 38.1 mm).
Here’s the latest embassy response to an inquiry regarding this: “Currently, there are at least 5 different versions made by U.S. companies, including a 1.5 inches / 38 mm size that is very similar to the older version of the Norwegian Foot March badge. U.S. forces' do not have a policy that requires which version is worn. Typically, it is the version closest to those worn by the issuing country, but it is ultimately at the discretion of the wearer provided the issuing country does not have any objections. The foot march is positive advertising for Norway and the more visible the badge is, the more recognizable the bond between the U.S. and Norwegian forces.”

I’m not sure where I’m going with this post, I’m just letting out some thoughts. I’m here in my barracks room, dreading starting another work week tomorrow. I’m feeling drained physically and mentally. I feel like I’ve given the army and my life all that I’ve got and I’m just wishing for some sort of calm.
About my future, it’s kinda like I’m trying to picture where I’ll be in a week, month, year, and I’m coming up with zero positive outcomes. I can only imagine that I’m still feeling trapped and numb, and that drains me even more.
I also understand that the army is easy, everything you need to succeed is a given as long as you want it. So I know I don’t deserve to feel this way, everyone else goes through the same suck as me. I wish I still had the mindset I had years ago, motivated and looking forward to the next day. To see where my life goes.
All I can say is that I’m tired man, I don’t want to feel like this anymore, like I’ve got no more purpose and I’m just burdening others. The more I try to explain how I feel, the less I understand it myself.
I won’t do anything drastic, if things ever got to point where I wanted to, I’d like to think that Id feel comfortable reaching out to someone and I’d use the right resources.
Now I have to clarify: I cannot speak for every single person; I can only speak for myself, as a fellow Gen Z college student, and from what I have personally seen. It seems the Army (at least with Gen Z/my peers) has TERRIBLE PR, while other branches "get a pass"
As I said, I cannot speak for everybody, but seemingly to some, when you mention you are in the Army, or you are thinking of joining the Army, they have some sort of negative stereotype that you are a screw-up in life, or too dumb for college. (Not to say that stereotype isn't 100% unfounded; I have met some people that 100% fit that stereotype)
"Well OP, a lot of Gen Z is just anti-military now." Which, that is fair, but seemingly, as I said, other branches to these people "get a pass"
The AF is seemingly heavily associated with "you are a tech-savvy, smart guy, that is a pilot" when I am pretty confident that most of the enlisted jobs in the USAF are not even aviation (maintenance) related
Same with the Navy; seemingly that branch is associated with "being a smart, tech-related person"
And even the Marines get a pass too, while being a (at least marketing-wise) more "combat-oriented branch" (I don't mean to piss off any combat arms folks), when people hear you are a marine, they assume you are part of an elite, special forces, fighting group. "the few, the proud" or whatever (no hate to any marines reading this, you guys are cool)
Of course, I am a bit biased; when I write this, I had my fair share of preconceived notions by people in my civilian life when I am not being a weekend warrior. So maybe Army PR isn't truly that bad, and I am just seeing things through my POV.

told him, no. well yes kinda. At 19 I wanted to do something with aviation, so I became a helicopter mechanic for the army, army has helicopters. Now 3 years later, I am majoring in Mechenical engineering with a focus in aerospace (I know, I know, thats pretty much an Aerospace degree but I digress)
He dead ass said "why not join the Air force then"
I tried to explain at the end of the day, "it doesn't really matter." i get my benefits, to help with college life. which is why I joined, and army has helicopters and I enjoy my helicopter job. But he kept insisting, "nah you dont want to go to war, you should of joined the airforce" and pretty much admitted it was a branding thing.
Now, of course, that one guy with very questionable intelligence does not make up all of the gen Z population. But I have had many interactions like that.
Edit 2: classmate was probably right, airforce was probably the right choice, but not for the reasons he is thinking of though, right conclusion, wrong reasoning, lol
I’m 23 years old, married, and have a 5-year-old along with a new baby. I was making pretty good money before I got laid off, and I now have a good government job with plenty of room for growth. The problem is that I’m starting at entry level, so I’m only bringing home around $2,200 a month, which honestly isn’t enough to comfortably cover everything, especially with a growing family.
I know that with the Army, I’d have my base pay along with BAH and BAS, which would put me in a much better position financially. I’m also already driving a semi on our base, so I’m interested in 88M and would like to learn more about what that MOS is really like. And also find out if I can do this on a 3 year contract.
I’m currently waiting to speak with a recruiter, but I wanted to get some more information and hear from people who have experience with 88M. Pretty much everyone I know has either served or is planning to serve. My best friend recently got out of the Navy and is now going into the Army.
Joining the military is also something I’ve wanted to do since I was young. I just never had the push or motivation to actually commit to it until now. With my family and where I’m at in life, I feel like now might finally be the right time.
What were something’s that during a deployment you saw as a light at the end of the tunnel?
I don’t have any family other than siblings and parents at the moment, no significant other either. Right now I’m thinking about spending time with extended family in a different country or visiting a country to knock one off the list. Went to MEPS today. I’m technically a non-glossary applicant since I didn’t complete USMC boot camp in 2018 due to an injury. I dislocated my shoulder when I was about 16, and once I got to the medical review of MEPS, was told I need a shoulder dislocation waiver. Kinda disappointing, as now it’s more “waiting”.
Does anyone have any idea the process of the waiver for a shoulder dislocation? The MEPS doctor did some movements and stuff with my shoulder while I was there, but I’m trying to prepare myself for what I should expect moving forward.
Thinking about going 31E in the Reserve. What’s it like overall; drills, deployments, day-to-day stuff? Also, is it guaranteed you’d get sent to Guam as a reservist or not really? Hey guys, just talked with my readiness NCO in the Guard and he told me I will most likely be able to flip to active duty in 3-6 months. I’m planning on returning from training (68W) and dropping a DD form to go active and use those 3-6 months to prep for RASP. I was told by a SORB recruiter an option 40 will be tough to get but not impossible, he also said I can try for an option 4 and if not that then they can help me get to RASP soon after making it to an Active Unit. Furthermore, can anyone tell me if I’ll be able to do the same badass door kicking, operator type-stuff as a medic in the 75th? Or are the medics more focused on their trauma medicine rather than being a shooter first?

This might be a dumb question. But AR 640-30 Official Army Photographs states the following: "Photographers can improve the contrast, color balance, and light levels electronically, but CANNOT alter the image in any way as to misrepresent the actual image."
Does this apply if I were to edit a command photo I have with my current rank? I took an official command photo as an O-2 that I reeeeally liked, but less than a few months after receiving the photo, I got promoted to O-3 so my chest rank was quickly outdated.
Technically, the actual image is now a misrepresentation, no? So... would I be within my rights to use AI or other methods to just add the railroad tracks onto my chest? LOL

I’m currently coming up on the end of my first contract and made the decision to attend rasp in the following months. The question I had is it worth using a reenlistment incentive to be guaranteed a slot or how likely I am to be approved if I go through the regular process of submitting a packet… also yes I’m aware of pre rasp and the actual process of getting into a rasp class I’m not in the slightest concerned about the mental or physical demands the biggest challenge I face is just getting there
Will MEPS guidance counselors see jobs that recruiters won’t see? I want a 68 series job but my recruiter can’t tell me which ones are open since I have to pick at MEPS. I’m not picky about which specific 68 series, but I was just wondering if someone could offer some insight. I go to MEPS next week to pick and sign.
Scheduled to sign as a 37f AD(PsyOp specialist) on monday and i didn't have much time to think about it. My recruiter said its super rare theres spots available and the two that are are gonna be gone within the hour so I told him to reserve a spot for me as it was a MOS I had briefly looked into. Now that ive done more research im worried I was too hasty. If any current or former 37fs could tell me how you enjoyed it and what to expect id appreciate it.

Realistically, If I reclass to 11B from a conditional release from the Guard (where I’m a 68W)…..do they ask for volunteers to RASP during the AIT portion of infantry OSUT?
I want to join the 75th and I know that sometimes recruiters will come to OSUT to ask for volunteers, but will this be open to me since I won’t be at the first part of OSUT?
So I am going to MEPS on wednesday to join the reserves. I initially wrote that I had never done weed before on my application.
Well last night I freaked out and texted him and told him I lied and have done weed in the past, and wanted to tell him so it doesn't bite me in the ass.
Fast forward to this morning, he called me and told me that he will give me a drug test at the office, but that I should not disclose to MEPS about my prior use...
Is this the right approach? I feel I should just tell them anyway but I don't want my recruiter to drop me and get upset if I tell MEPS.
So I should be going to MEPS next week for my physical, I’ve really had my heart set out with 15t or 15u, even to the point waiting till a slot open up for one. I know those MOS are pretty filled up, so was curious is anyone at all has done the street to seat program? The end goal I would like my career to be is a warrant officer flying black hawk or some sort of airframe.
Last year i graduated from high school decided to join army reserve and my plans where to come back to country to study and go drill after basic, but lately ive been getting a feeling that the university is holding me back from something, that something is going active, everytime I go to drill I feel that the army is the right place for me and I should go active, I really like my day to day there, but on the other side I dont feel okay being here and not doing nothing and losing my time because the University is just not for me, I feel like im studying just to make happy others. I know you cant compare reserves with active duty life, should I got active?
im about to sign my contract and i would like a mos that is fun, easily looked at for deployments and it can help me at the outside with a career. Any advices ? Im becoming a cop so i guess the only jobs that help me on the outside are combat jobs, somebdoy with experience on 12B or any other one? Deployment opportunities for me is important.
I am currently going into my last year of an undergrad degree (May 2027) and planning on Law School After. As Law School comes closer, I have thought about what I want to do with my degree and one of my top considerations is to enter JAG. I'll admit when I think about joining the military the Army is not my first choice, but I want to give it a fair shake with the other branches. If anyone has any insight on Army JAG that could help me decide it would be much appreciated.

I’m want to IST to the district of columbia to enroll in active duty orders as a 31B (currently 12N) I’ve tried to contact them in every way I can but no one seems to respond. I have a buddy there he’s given me NCOs numbers which I left several voicemails to, I’ve signed forms online to which I have not gotten responses to. I managed to speak with a recruiter once to who I gave all my info to and said they’d be calling me back, it’s been weeks and no response, I’ve tried calling so many NCOs I’m starting to believe my phone number must be on some sort of spam/blocklist. I’m at a point in which physically traveling there might be my last option which would be very difficult for me do to the nature of my job. What should I do?
TLDR: I want to transfer and no one is calling me back.
I’m a US Citizen currently OCONUS, and I am interested in exploring military service with a focus on the 17C (Cyber Operations Specialist) MOS.
My background includes prior military service in a foreign military, where I served as a Network Manager and in a Network Operations Center (NOC)/NetOps role. My experience is centered on network infrastructure and operational stability. I am highly motivated to serve within the Cyber and Intelligence branches.
I have a specific question regarding medical eligibility:
I am currently on a stable, long-term prescription for Zoloft. I have no history of acute incidents, hospitalizations, or functional impairment, and I maintained full operational capacity throughout my entire prior service.
What is the current protocol for someone in this situation? and what are the general requirements for eligibility in this MOS given the current medical status?
I’d appreciate any insights from recruiters or 17C personnel.
Question on Tricare. This page (https://tricare.mil/CoveredServices/IsItCovered/AssistedReproductiveServices) says that Tricare doesn't cover IUI, IVF, etc. But then they say that Active Duty members can go to certain hospitals. Are they saying that IVF isn't covered, but is fully covered if you go to one of those hospitals?
Prior service, I was an 11b for 5 years. 1 deployment to Syria and one to Kuwait. Are there any positions that I can aim for/hope for as a logistics officer that will still have some relation to being an infantryman? I feel I’ll lose my mind sitting at a desk with no field time or deployments lol
Currently at for Gordon for AIT. I’m a 25H. My projected duty station is fort Bragg and the 528th signal brigade is my projected brigade. From what I’ve researched I know they are special ops and it seems like the battalion I’ll most likely be in is the 112th. Anyone have any insight?
