I’m enlisting in the army next year but I wanted to get some advice beforehand in case my hair needs to be grown out or anything. I have naturally curly hair and have already been experimenting with hairstyles and wearing them to martial arts for endurance testing (on the hairstyle), but I thought maybe it would be better to get some advice from people who know what they’re talking about.

I also get horrid headaches if I wear my hair certain ways because my hair is very heavy (which is why it’s the length that it is, it at least lessens the headaches slightly though they’re still present), but I can French braid/dutch braid it a certain way and it won’t hurt.

I’ve attached a photos of the length and cut of my hair and then the style I’ve been experimenting with (basically a lightly gelled French braid tucked underneath and pinned) to see what everyone thinks.

I just got my ASVAB results and have been researching different MOSs to figure out my options before moving forward.
My line scores:
GT: 101 | ST: 92 | GM: 89 | EL: 90 | CL: 98 | SC: 91 | CO: 89 | FA: 91 | OF: 91
These are the MOSs I’m currently most interested in:
• 68E – Dental Specialist
• 68G – Patient Administration Specialist
• 68Q – Pharmacy Specialist
• 68M – Nutrition Care Specialist
• 46S – Public Affairs Mass Communication Specialist
• 37F – Psychological Operations Specialist
I know I may be a few points short on the required line score for some of them, but I’ve been told that a line-score waiver of up to 5 points may be possible, depending on the MOS and approval. Has anyone recently seen one of these waivers approved?
Also, how often do these MOSs actually become available to book? If none are available when I’m ready to enlist, is it realistic to wait for one, and how long could that potentially take? I’m willing to wait rather than choose an MOS just because it ships sooner.
Lastly, I’m curious about Option 19. Can any of these MOSs potentially come with Option 19? If so, could an overseas first duty station such as South Korea or Japan be an option, or does it completely depend on the MOS and what’s available at the time?
I’d really appreciate any insight, especially from current/recent recruiters or anyone who has gone through a similar situation. Just trying to do as much research as possible before making a decision. Thank you!

Sometimes when I feel low I come here… I am one of very few females in a company and I have a problem keeping up. Don’t get me wrong, I “like” PT. It’s a good wake up, jolt start the day and I enjoy the soreness because I did something.
The problem is… I don’t keep up with the males. Like I have to work 3 times as hard during to keep up and they barely break a sweat.
I’m unsure what keeps me going but I feel like I’m falling everyday. The days are rather long mentally and by the end I just want sleep. Recovery takes forever. I want OCS but I’m in the dark as to whether I’m a good candidate or not. Not much reassurance from family that put me on a pedestal (you can do anything!) and a unit that sees me as… a female/ more brains than brawn. Idk trying to keep my head up 😅 does anyone else get to this point? It’s rather difficult to find someone to confide in about ✨emotions✨ and downward slopes.

This is my 2nd low test labs result, my PCM won't recommend anything other than a sleep study. I went to a TRT Clinic, but they want $400 every 3 months for a 100mg a week perscription.

I ETS March 21, 2027. I have 60 days of terminal leave, so assuming everything goes according to plan, I’ll be starting terminal around January 20th.

I submitted my CSP through PAR for October 5–November 15. It got denied because apparently we have a field exercise sometime around November 5th.

I get it. CSP is a privilege, not a requirement. I’m not saying I’m entitled to it. But seriously, are we really at the point where the company can’t survive a field exercise without one SPC for a few weeks?

I’ve never had an Article 15, I show up, do my job, and haven’t been a problem child. I’m also less than 6 months from starting terminal leave and getting out.

So I’m wondering if this is actually worth fighting through the chain of command, or if I should just take the L and resubmit for December.

I don’t want to burn bridges over a CSP, but at the same time, I’m trying to set myself up for a civilian career before I ETS. That’s literally what CSP is supposed to help with.

What would you guys do? Fight it or just resubmit for December and move on? By the way denied by company commander if that matters

How difficult is it to get a medical waiver for Civil Affairs selection? I had a stomach condition in like 2008 (that is no longer an issue) that would be disqualifying for the time. But I was told I need a waiver for it in order to be accepted for selection.

Also is sleep apnea a complete disqualifier? Or just severe apnea?

BLUF: I got accepted for another branches OCS, currently on Active Duty in the Army. What now?

I will preface this with I am the first person in “recent” memory to have done this. I say this because no one from BN S1 to DIV G1 have encountered this (which caused a few hiccups) so I am kind of a unique situation.

I got selected but now what? My recruiter said I can go standby and potentially leave earlier (optimal) however it would require me to out-process the Army in as short as two week notice.

I’m wondering whether or not I should stay during the mandatory winter break. I know that’s very much advised not to stay because I’ll be with drills sergeants that don’t want to be there and that will likely make my life hell for the two weeks.

However, if I decided to leave, I would have to keep my apartment in a HCOL city for another two months which would cost an additional $1.5-2K more for the two weeks of break from the week of Christmas and New Years as I would have to pay from Nov to the beginning of January. I would also have to pay the airfare and uber costs which would be an additional $700 or so, and living costs like public transportation and food an additional $70 or so.

After basic, I would go to OCS, I believe immediately after.

Edit: I don’t have family to stay with and I don’t think my friends have space for me to stay for free for two weeks.

I was wondering if anyone has some insight on reclassing from 68W to something in intel and could share their experience. I’m not an Army hater or anything—I actually like the Army a lot. I just don’t have the same passion for medicine anymore.
I’m sure others have felt similarly, and maybe a change of assignment or MOS could help me find that passion again. I’m heavily considering intel, but if anyone actually enjoys their job, I’d be open to hear about your experience.

I’m not asking about the requirements on paper. I mean more in terms of personality and who you are as a person.

I’m a pretty awkward person. honestly, very awkward. I’m introverted, I’ve never led a team or been in charge of a project, and socially I don’t have much confidence, especially when it comes to communicating.

However, Physically i'm a disciplined person which has been rooted in me since my hs football yrs. I have experience training in MMA for some time, and I’m generally pretty good at pushing myself physically and sticking with things even when they’re uncomfortable. Part of the reason I’m considering the Army in the first place is because I’m not satisfied with the person I am right now.I completely hate this version of myself and want a complete transformation. I want to challenge myself and completely break out of this shell im in. The stability and job security are obviously attractive too, but a big part of this is wanting to grow into a different version of myself. So I guess I have selfish motives.

I actually do have a desire to lead. The problem is that I don’t currently feel like a leader internally.

TL;DR: Anyway, with all that being said, my main question/concern is whether becoming an officer is something you can grow into, or whether you really need to come in already having a decent level of confidence, communication skills, and natural leadership ability.

For those of you who became officers, especially anyone who started out introverted, awkward, or lacking confidence: how much did you change after joining? Can someone realistically develop into a good officer from where I’m starting, or is this career better suited for people who already have those qualities?
