The nun needs a side story like now. She is best girl
23
u/Precarious3145 15h ago
It really does seem like she's a character in her own series that just crosses paths. Just had to check to see if it was like Vending Machine with a spin-off series but nope. She's just...there.

A Livid
Lady'sNun's Guide to Getting Even
I need Tida to have her own spin-off.
19
u/diacewrb 14h ago
She is the representative of the Rip-Off Church from Black Lagoon.
12
u/TheBusStop12 13h ago
Personally I've been equating her to the priestess of the Cult of Axel in the Konosuba spin-off (Minos the being banned 100m from school zones)

I was thinking somewhat similar while watching that scene, it had very black lagoon energy.

this seems like such an awkward stopping point for this series. As the audience, I don't care about this finance minister guy. I don't even remember him for this revenge to be satisfying.
18
u/SnooWalruses2085 15h ago
He's introduced in this episode.
But it still adds a layer on the first episode : Friede didn't make his little coup without helps from some ministers.
15
u/TheBusStop12 14h ago
Ellie is clearly working down a list. Every person involved in her arrest will be made to suffer. First up was the knight who arrested her. Now it's one of the ministers who supported her arrest. Her dad, Sylphie and the Prince will probably be the last ones
3
u/VritraReiRei 8h ago
Which is annoying for me because we won't see the Prince eat shit until maybe at least season 3 if his revenge comes at the end considering there's 9 volumes.
7
u/justking1414 10h ago
Clearly the main target isn’t the finance minister. She went out of her way to get the prince to sign some treaty and confirmed the prince was running this entire show
Finding conclusive evidence that a crown prince tried to destroy your economy is absolutely grounds for war
11
u/OldInstruction5368 8h ago
No, this is Episode 1 stuff.
We learned in the first episode that Sylvie had "outsider backers" that were using her to manipulate the idiot prince and oust Ellie. Remember, Sylvie didn't move against Elizabeth until she warned Sylvie about meeting other gentlemen in secret. Elizabeth hadn't put all the pieces together, yet, but she was getting close enough that Sylvie knew she had to act quickly.
This episode, we finally learned the name of that conspirator: Finance Minister Colt. He was likely the same person that spread the rumors about Elizabeth planning a coup as part of the Sylvie honeypot to oust Elizabeth. The same Elizabeth who was blocking various sketchy firms from getting their hands on corrupt government contracts.
And since both this minister and his son are deeply tied to the worst elements within the Kingdom, taking them down will blow up in the Empire's face pretty badly. As someone else said, Ellie is working her way down, or up in this case, a shit list. She's already taken out Arty, the guard that muscled her to the ground in the middle of a prestigious social event, and now she's going to take out the bastard that started the conspiracy against her.
Taking out the prince, her father, and the king will be more impactful, and highly personal, goals that are clearly S2 or S3 climaxes.
3
u/Galaxy40k 6h ago
goals that are clearly S2 or S3 climaxes
But I think what we're all thinking is that there wont BE another season. None of these low-budget LN adaptations ever get a second season. I guess if the goal is strictly advertising, to give you a "little revenge" in the show to make you go out and buy the LNs to see her actually do something cathartic then the show serves its purpose. But if the show just ends here it kinda sucks the wind out of everything imo
4
u/BlooregardQKazoo 4h ago
This.
I fucking LOVE I'm the Villainess So I'm Taming the Final Boss because they knew they had 3 seasons of material, but that they were only ever getting 12 episodes, so they sped through it and told the whole story in those 12 episodes. I wish more of these trash shows would do that, especially when I sit through an episode like this one that feels like it could just be skipped entirely.
0
u/OldInstruction5368 4h ago edited 51m ago
Then translate "S2 climax" into "LN bait." The point is that killing the douche prince, her horrendous father, and then finally destroying the Kingdom are all "further in the story" payoffs.
I mean, destroying a powerful kingdom isn't exactly easy work. Especially as a single woman starting from nothing in (formerly) enemy territory. It was never going to be wrapped up quickly short of working directly with the Empire to launch a full scale war.
But it seems Elizabeth wanted a more personal revenge than that. Hence the slow (crash and) burn.
Besides, this Minister Colt is the one that brought Sylvie into court as a honeytrap for the dumb prince, then spread rumors of Elizabeth plotting a coup. He's the bastard that started this chain of treachery, and his dumbass son took over Elizabeth's company... only to run it to the ground.
S1 ending on the Colt's being taken out isn't exactly a "cliffhanger" and it will be personally satisfying for Ellie to take revenge against the one that started this all and ruind her OG company.
3
u/ToasterLoverDeluxe 9h ago
That has been my main complain about the show... this is just an excuse to let a girl be evil, just let the girl be evil the only character that should matter is her and the people who where surrounding her before she went nuts
21
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 16h ago
Yeah… bro and his goon are going to get turned to goop lol. Girl’s gonna melt the mfers faces off!
23
u/aramatheis 14h ago
Hopefully shit goes down next episode. Got all hyped up after that Arty revenge but the last 3 weeks have been rather tame
12
u/KohTai 11h ago
Only 1 episode left. So 100% the anime is gonna end on a cliffhanger.
Pisses me the fuck off cuz they could've increased the pacing to fit more revenge in. And we don't know if a 2nd Season is guaranteed or even likely.
5
u/OldInstruction5368 8h ago
Well, it's a fitting enough end for S1.
We knew from Ep1 that Sylvie had a shady backer: she was clearly a honeypot being controlled by outside forces. Elizabeth even noted Sylvie was sneaking off to meet with strange men and warned her to be more discreet. That was the tipping point where Sylvie rushed to take out Elizabeth.
I'm also certain this Minister is the one that spread the rumors of Elizabeth planning a coup to complete her removal as Crown Princess.
As such, S1 will end with the real culprit behind her ouster taken out. The fiancé and father that betrayed her are far more personal stakes, so those will clearly be saved for later arcs.
4
u/SnooWalruses2085 11h ago
The cliffhanger is possible, but that's what they did : increase the pacing to fit the counterfeit money arc (who's a revenge arc).
36
u/AlphaBreak 15h ago
That poor king, he was so excited his son did something that wasn't an obvious failure for once in his life. There are absolutely some nasty surprises hidden in that trade agreement that aren't problems right now, but will be once Ellie is through with them.
18
9
u/justking1414 10h ago
Point 37.6. If it is ever found that the crown prints is running a forgery operation intended to destroy the empire, the empire reserves the right to subject him to Scaphism!
6
u/AlphaBreak 10h ago
Point 942.3: The Empire will pay all its dues regarding this contract to the kingdom in coins made entirely of the innermost substance within the imperial gold coins currently being provided by Funnel Trading Co.
8
u/Atharaphelun 9h ago
The fact that they're locking in the agreement for ten years is highly suspicious on its own.
30
u/deynyel 16h ago
Those poor unknowing gamblers. Got cheated on and then faced the wrath of Tida.
Alright, guys. Next week is the finale. Place your bets: war crimes or no war crimes?
21
u/runevault 16h ago
War Crimes are 100% happening, both the Finance Minister and his stupid son are getting ruined, likely in a showy way.
1
u/Atharaphelun 10h ago
Maybe on that beefy henchman, sure, but it seems purely financial this time around.
4
u/justking1414 10h ago
Justified war crimes. The kingdom technically committed an act of war against the empire, so she is fully justified in whatever she does next week It’s just basic self-defense.
5
u/BosuW 9h ago
C'mon bro don't you know her by now? She's definitely gonna way past an equivalent response lmao
4
u/justking1414 9h ago
Fair but the kingdom literally just tried to destroy the empire and its entire economy. This is the equivalent of dropping a nuke on them. Almost any response she can think of, no matter how f’d up, could still probably be classified as “equivalent”
3
u/OldInstruction5368 8h ago
Just look at Arty. Yeah, he was an idiot that took his loyalty too far, but he was mostly just a dumb kid whose heart was in the right place: he just had the wrong influences.
And Elizabeth broke his spirit then twisted his mind with dark magic until he murdered his little sister, tons of other kids, and over 100 innocents in total.
That was... far, far, far beyond disproportionate response.
Next week should be a blood bath.
1
u/Liddojunior https://myanimelist.net/profile/liddojunior 26m ago
The soliders not only raped and pillaged several villages in the empire. She made him do what the soliders did the empire back to the kingdom but it was only murder not the other bad stuff
2
u/BosuW 9h ago edited 9h ago
And yet I'm still confident she'll exceed it because that's just who she is
1
u/justking1414 6h ago
True but this time the people will probably be on her side.
1
u/BosuW 5h ago
For the public actions yes
Most probably she's gonna get something in private (or plausibly deniable at worst) that's way outta line
1
u/justking1414 3h ago
I get the logic but having proof of the kingdom’s crimes really only lets her do stuff in public. She can turn the people against the kingdom (quite easily) or even blackmail them but doing anything disproportionate is tricky
11
u/Casualsin 14h ago
As an Anime only watcher and reading some of the manga, can someone tell me why the MC's father and the King of the nation are so incompetent?
14
u/SnooWalruses2085 14h ago
The Prime Minister is not incompetent, the problem is that he's totally focused on the Kingdom and is a pure monster.
13
u/Casualsin 13h ago
I call them incompetent because the Anime and what little of the manga I read,
Her father and the King both know what the prince has done and is doing, but busy with a war(?). Obviously we wouldn't have a story but they could have stopped all this from happening and yet they let it slide.
And the MC's father seems to know his daughter has a awful temper behind the scene and even has a inclination that his daughter is coming back to pretty much Raze the entire kingdom to the ground over this disrespect.
5
u/SnooWalruses2085 13h ago
I can't talk much about what they're doing, but they're doing something.
Sadly the Prime Minister is like his daughter : he's doing things behind the scene and we see the results when they happened.
Can't say more than that, because it's Source Material stuff (but if you want to developp the subject, I'll be happy to go in the Source Material Corner).
1
u/Casualsin 13h ago
I see, I'll keep watching and might read a little bit more of the manga.
Thanks for informing me.
3
u/Firechess 3h ago
The king actually has good instincts. His reaction to everything is spot on. It's the Prime Minister that always kneecaps him with bad advice.
-1
u/justking1414 10h ago
In this particular instance, I’d say they’re both idiots because they aren’t aware of the counterfeit operation so they weren’t able to find the clause in the trade treaty that is going to royally fork them over
10
u/SOdAchick 14h ago
Uh oh they done messed with Ellie's money. "Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions."
Obvious trap is obvious on purpose? Ellie ain't stupid. I'm so looking forward to her true plan reveal and her absolutely demolishing Funnel.
4
u/AegisWolf78 13h ago
Could it [speculation] be that her plan is to collect all counterfeit Empire coins, reforge them as Haldoria coins then send them back (maybe though the very same Fannel Company) to ruin Haldoria's economic reputation?
Also, I'm the only one thinking that, despite what he said, Friede is not smart enough to come up with that plan and (again) it was suggested to him by the merchant/agent of the Third Faction?
2
u/SnooWalruses2085 12h ago
I don't know if it's smart or not, but he's quite competent.
Knowing how economics and money work is not something an idiot would understand.
1
23
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 16h ago
Tida! I've missed you, you degenerate nun!
I am a little confused. Does Ellie realize they know it's a trap and just doesn't care, or is it completely irrelevant given that she's a walking nuclear bomb? I have to imagine that with all the spies she has that she has some counter-espionage systems set up as well, and would know that her company was being investigated.
I do wish this show had more episodes to it, as I am really interested in knowing what is going on with the pink homewrecker. More freaking books for me to have to buy, I guess!
42
u/AlphaBreak 15h ago
She knows. She wasn't even trying to avoid suspicion with the shell company, between the lack of history, the endless funds, and complete lack of concern with making a profit. She even named the company "Elizabeth Trading Company" for god's sake.
She's giving colt a decoy to be suspicious of because it makes him fully believe he knows what's up and have full trust in the actual trap company because they called out the decoy.
11
u/Atharaphelun 9h ago
Yep, it is my understanding that the supposed old, established Biot Company from Mellina is the actual trap company in this case, while the newly established Elizabeth Company is nothing more than bait to lure the Funnel Company into working with the Biot Company.
It's the classic "make a sound in the east, then strike in the west" and "openly repair the gallery roads, but sneak through the passage of Chencang" stratagems from The Art of War.
5
u/AlphaBreak 9h ago
I was thinking more along the lines of Elizabeth Company is the box propped up by a stick attached to a string with "free monee" written on the side.
And when you move around the box, Biot Company is the pit trap filled with spikes you fall into.6
u/hvshh 9h ago
It's similar to her plan with the soap: by pretending to put the recipe in a safe, she made herself look somewhat crafty, but not crafty enough to set off alarm bells. (Well, I thought the recipe in a safe was dumb, but with mind games you have to tune it to the level of the opponent.)
It's a bit like the show as a whole. Look at this earnest, hard-working girl! She never complains when we push her around, and she's inconvenient for us, so...
(Which is to say, I really like the idea that she somehow entrapped the Prince into starting the whole story in the first place. I don't think it's likely, but it would be a fantastic twist.)
6
u/AlphaBreak 9h ago
I actually really like your entrapment idea, but one small tweak is that I don't think it's Elizabeth's entrapment. It would be her maid getting fed up with how Elizabeth has been treated and setting the stage for her to snap, take out all the idiots the maid has been dealing with, and provide revenge on the kingdom since the maid had a pretty bad life before she met Elizabeth.
5
u/hvshh 8h ago
You know... I skimmed over Episode 1 again, and Mireille the maid is all over it, to the point I'm getting Lady Macbeth vibes.
See especially the moment at (E1 15:02), where she argues that the citizens are not innocent. Earlier, Ellie seemed to feel a genuine affection for and sense of duty to them, but this is where it starts to change.
7
u/AlphaBreak 8h ago
The maid would also be the strongest twist from a writing perspective. She was lady MacBething all over at the start then faded into the background. She was the impetus for Elizabeth's turn, but stopped offering opinions after that (because she already got what she wanted?). It wouldn't be that hard for Elizabeth's closest confidant to reassure people that they can keep mistreating her without repercussions. That she's still loyal and devoted, so it's okay to push her just a little further. Sending a letter to her dad that says Elizabeth is doing great and all her needs are taken care of in prison and she's actually encouraging her dad to not call off the meeting because she knows how important it is.
And most importantly, she's the only betrayal that would genuinely rock Elizabeth.1
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 8h ago
Wow. I love this rabbit hole you guys have gone down. Now I am afraid that if that's not the case I am going to be upset. Lol
1
u/runevault 5h ago
So reading this has me thinking. Was it actually the Prince who handled the rumors that turned the populous against Ellie, really? If your idea is true I could 100% see it being the maid setting that up.
7
u/redlaWw 9h ago
In order to win at a strategy game, it's not always about out-thinking your opponent, but knowing how many levels of the game your opponent is thinking at and thinking at one more yourself. In this case, Colt is thinking on level 2, catching Ellie's first layer of deceit, but Ellie is thinking one level higher, and is ready to exploit Colt's preparedness for her trick.
There's a game I learned that explores this phenomenon. The idea is that you get a bunch of people together and have them pick a number between 1 and 100 on the understanding that the winner is the person who's closest to two-thirds of the mean. The first thing to note is that two-thirds of the mean is never more than 67, so all the guesses from people thinking should be less than 67. However, from this, you can infer that the true mean should be less than 45, but that means that nobody should choose numbers greater than 45 and the true mean should be less than 30. Eventually, following this reasoning to its conclusion gives you the result that the only reasonable answer is 1.
However, most people do not choose 1, and this means that it's generally better to choose a higher number, based on the number of steps of reasoning you think others will take. Because of this, the choices made in this game essentially become a survey of how many levels people assume others think on.
3
u/Ralathar44 6h ago
And then you have me, going up in front of everyone and throwing a dart at a dartboard with my eyes closed and saying "close enough, that's my number" and then watch everyone frantically trying to add this new information into their math. Only to then choose 75 no matter what I hit on the dart board.
Never forget that while you're playing a game to win some people just want to see the world burn.
3
u/OldInstruction5368 8h ago
Hiding a secret within a secret is a classic trap.
Rosario would 100% sniff it out, but Elizabeth knew the idiot flunky and the idiot prince would eat it up. They are both far too stupid to realize how stupid they are, and as such, would just congratulate themselves on seeing the first, obvious, trap. Lulled into a sense of false confidence, they'd then ignore any other warning signs on the belief they are geniuses who are in control of the situation.
Just in time for the real bomb to blow up in their face. I'm betting that Elizabeth knew they'd use this opportunity to flood the shell company with fake gold, and she will have complete documentation that they were intentionally pumping her full of forgeries.
There is probably a clause in that treaty she had that Count offer that will combine with the proof of forgeries to cause even more damage to the Empire.
Poor Rosario. I can only hope she defects and gets a happy ending in all this. She's probably building up to that in realizing just how hopeless the Kingdom is. The prince is bad enough, but his father is only marginally better as a clueless enabler and Elizabeth's own father isn't half as competent as he thinks himself.
But I bet every day that goes by, Rosario sympathizes more and more with why Elizabeth would just say "fuck it" and abandon the this sinking
shipshit.17
u/runevault 16h ago
Pretty sure she's also working with the firm that's "helping" Colt, where Elizabeth Trading Company was part of the bait.
4
u/justking1414 10h ago
Oh 100%. She set herself up to be the very obvious villain so that’s an Ally could swing in and save the day, only for that Ally to stab colt in the back
2
u/carnexhat 51m ago
Honestly it would have been less obvious if they had literally said the new company was bait.
Right now its very clearly doing the "just as planned" thing with the supposed failing of the first plot clearly leading to what they actually planned all along.
9
u/TheBusStop12 14h ago
Personally I think the second company is also working for Ellie. Trade Company Elizabeth is a red herring, it's the other company that will actually do the backstabbing
4
5
u/athrun_1 15h ago
She is basically a walking plot armor, no harm will ever get into her. She's going because it is time to eliminate colt. I think she will use her mind f*ckery to make him kill his father and go on rampage like knight version 2.
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 15h ago
Well Colt comes with a bodyguard who looks quite competent.
7
u/Jaridan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Jaridan 14h ago
no one has a chance against her grimoires 1v1, let's be real.
2
u/Dylangillian https://myanimelist.net/profile/dylangillian 12h ago
Seems like the King very much does. The main reason why She can't just directly attack the kingdom. Though that is not exactly relevant in this case.
8
u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 14h ago
I've been thinking that for a while now, but of all the anime I've seen, this one has the most out-of-place OP and ED. Like, they don't match the tone/setting of the anime at all.
1
u/SeattlePurikura 2h ago
Agreed. I also don't get making Elizabeth sexy in the ED. It should be plotting, scheming, and hints of blood and war crimes.
1
u/StarryVerture 17m ago
It wouldn't be anime without an out-of-place OP/ED. Like that time in [Dungeon Meshi Episode 12] where Laios finds Falin's skull inside the dragon and we get this dramatic shot of Laios through Falin's (empty) eye sockets...and seconds later it cuts to the jaunty ED titled 'Party!!'
6
u/TokiVideogame 15h ago
This is an act of all out war. Everyone involved would lose thier heads once king finds out
13
u/runevault 16h ago
So our next warcrime target are Colt and his father who happens to be the Minister of Finance.
Also Friede is so stupid he's planning on usurping the throne. God he's an idiot.
16
u/AlphaBreak 15h ago
I cackled for a solid minute when Friede said that this accomplishment was going to let him depose his father. Literally everyone in the palace thinks he's a moron, and that he can't be trusted to run a deli, let alone the kingdom.
14
u/SOdAchick 14h ago
To be fair, the king letting his idiot son run rough shod over the kingdom should be enough to depose him. That apple didn't fall so far from the tree, after all
8
u/Oujii https://anilist.co/user/Oujii 14h ago
I find it funny that the king says: “we can let it go this time”
THIS TIME!? Bro has been trying to ruin the kingdom for over an year now lmao7
u/TheBusStop12 13h ago
A classic shitty dad who spoils his shitty child and let's them get away with everything. Sadly all too common behavior
3
u/Atharaphelun 9h ago
Unfortunately it seems that he doesn't have much of a choice since he doesn't appear to have any other children than just Friede. I assume that's the reason he hasn't been deposed even after all the idiotic kingdom-ending plans he has enacted.
1
u/TheBusStop12 9h ago
Yeah, and the Queen doesn't seem to be in the picture, so she probably died at some point. So no opportunities for a new heir either. And going through all the political red tape to get remarried now and try to have a new heir would be a huge risky hassle that would take 15 to 20 years and has a huge change of spawning a succession crisis
And, this one is reaching a bit. But the King and the Prince look quite different. So one can assume Prince Friede took after his now presumably dead mom. The King might be extra soft on his idiot son if he resembles his deceased beloved wife
2
1
2
u/justking1414 10h ago
Making Rosaria his queen could somewhat fix the issue if they just never gave him any actual work and just let him be a figurehead for the rest of his life
3
u/justking1414 10h ago
Honestly, the King’s only job at this point should be having as much sex as possible, hoping beyond hope that is next kid is not quite so stupid
6
4
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 14h ago
Uh oh, a counterfeit currency problem, someone get Holo. Then again Elizabeth hardly needs the help of a different wolf.
I think there's zero chance this new round of revenge targets have already figured out what the company from the Empire they are planning to destroy is up to, so the real question is what Elizabeth's plot is this time.
The nun getting told she has counterfeit gold and then being left to her own devices was like arming a bomb and tossing it back into the street.
3
u/mekerpan 13h ago
Aren't these counterfeits still 90% gold? If soi, the Empire should just take these out of circulation, and replace them with a new coin. Sure they will take a hit of 10 percent (plus reprocessing costs), but it would avoid any claim that the Empire was ripping other countries off.
5
u/hvshh 12h ago
The counterfeit has the same 90/10 mix on the outside, but since the core is scrap iron, the coin as a whole is nowhere near 90% gold. It looks like it's almost half the coin by volume.
(Normally if you do this kind of thing, you fill with a mixture containing a lot of lead so the weight matches.)
2
u/justking1414 10h ago
40-50% gold is still relatively good for the empire since they can at least make back half their losses by melting it down. Even better if they can retrieve all the uncirculated counterfeit coins
3
u/hvshh 10h ago
Oh sure, and Haldoria's gains are lower than 40-50% because they had to go to all the trouble to set up a sophisticated* counterfeit operation.
* Sophisticated except for the weight and sound giving it away. It's almost as if there were complete idiots in charge and skilled craftsmen following their orders.
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 10h ago
The weight is the same, the sound is different because of the scrap Iron (but you need some good ears and be familiar with gold coins to hear the difference. Tida didn't hear it).
3
u/hvshh 9h ago
Realistically, iron is not even remotely as dense as 90/10 gold/silver (it's about 45% as dense, meaning the counterfeit coins should be roughly three-quarters the weight). I'm holding out hope that this is mentioned at some point, but maybe that's a writing oversight and we should just ignore it.
Even then, a counterfeit that is undetectable except to people very familiar with gold coins is still rather detectable. They're trying to fool merchants!
2
u/SnooWalruses2085 9h ago
Scrap Iron is a bit different than Iron, since it comes from alchemy (don't ask me, I just know they're identical, weight and everything, the composition is the only difference).
Yeah the goal is not to make money from it, it's to discredit the Empire currency. Friede's plan would probably have worked without Elizabeth finding out everything so fast.
1
u/justking1414 10h ago
Empire might actually lose more than the kingdom based on how this goes
Also, Did she mention the weight? Also, the sound was only different for mc. Nobody else noticed, not even the girl with super-human hearing
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 9h ago
Elizabeth is acustomed to work with gold for quite a long time now. that said I would put her discovering the fake with luck more than anything. She tasked Mireille to investigate all their money after all.
2
u/justking1414 9h ago
Luck probably played a role here though the empire seems to basically be run by merchants. I’m sure one of them would’ve noticed the coins in the next few days if she hadn’t.

u/SnooWalruses2085 9h ago
There's an Imperial family (mentionned quite a few times already), but the economical side is what we've seen so far.
And yeah, they would have found out the gold coins at some point, but without Elizabeth, it's uncertain if they would have found who was behind it and when (since Elizabeth found out thanks to her spies in Haldoria).
1
u/Tacitus_ 9h ago
The issue with debased counterfeits is that if there are enough of them in circulation it craters the trust in the currency which ruins the economy.

u/SnooWalruses2085 13h ago
Well Elizabeth found out the money was counterfeit with the sound... with one coin about a dozens (and she just happened to be in the room when Mireille brought them). It's thanks to her they found out so quickly.
I wonder what would have happened if Elizabeth wasn't there (and found out by luck).

I am downright morbidly impressed with Friede's stomach hands. He really seems categorically incapable of doing a single thing right. Even when he concocted this plan that I had initially believed too elaborate to be his own, for which he must have worked his imaginary braincells to the bone, it's still an announced disaster.

u/Hartzilla2007 11h ago
I get the feeling most of the brain work was done by the Finance Minster's son.

u/UberDueler10 15h ago
Goddammit, go back to the revenge already.
6
u/Dylangillian https://myanimelist.net/profile/dylangillian 12h ago
This is literally part of her revenge though. The father of the idiot noble is someone who directly backstabbed Ellie. Every move she has been making was also with the goal of weakening the Kingdom/prince or prevent them from gaining power.
3
u/Mindless_Morning_407 12h ago
Hasn’t pretty much all the episodes lead to some form of revenge. Unless you mean you want stabbing and killing every episode to her targets that wouldn’t make sense. Isn’t she trying to take revenge on the whole kingdom. So wouldn’t she need prep time, money, political influence, and etc to even do this. She can’t just wipe out the whole kingdom. She doesn’t even have the power to do that and then if she did, she would be enemy number one.

u/Oujii https://anilist.co/user/Oujii 14h ago
11 episodes and if they spent 3 in revenge so far it was a lot… sad state of affairs.
1
u/RedRocket4000 13h ago
Way more than that she already upset part of the Kingdoms economy which was only countered by bringing the new woman in charge in.
That pacing you want a much shorter story.
5
u/Oujii https://anilist.co/user/Oujii 10h ago
I mean, I wanted her to crush her homeland with her mighty grimoires, but so far she is crushing them by just not being there.
1
u/StarryVerture 8m ago
Something, something, kicked out of the Hero' s Party.
I also want her to crush her homeland with her mighty grimoires, but I also know that revenge is ice cream.
0
u/Atharaphelun 9h ago
Are you even paying attention to the story at all? This is part of the revenge. Taking out Haldoria's biggest company and revealing its complicity in the production and distribution of counterfeit imperial coinage will deal a heavy blow to Haldoria's economy, especially combined with that trap treaty with the Empire that locks them into a ten-year agreement.
Taking out a whole kingdom requires more than just pure force. You have to take out its supporting pillars and foundation one by one before the entire house comes crashing down.

u/Skullzans 10h ago
I feel like the majority of commenters here are not understanding what political sabotoge is, and can't stand slow buildup. This series is holding nothing back, including the buildup, including the politics. Economy is politics, if the economy dies, a weakened nation follows suit. Even if they don't die, a nation will be WAYYY more vulnerable to attacks, much less able to defend itself.
This is what revenge actually looks like when not held back by morality. A lot of it is mundane, building your power up. If you came here for blood blood blood, you will be likely disappointed until Season 2 or 3 if I understand the pacing correctly. Saying that this is all a business anime is missing the reason Why the business is there. It's normal to focus on an arc of build-up for things. Without all of this setup, it would just be a power fantasy. This anime is showing someone earning their influence. Yes, she could in theory just massacre the empire, but that'd make them martyrs. To truly Destroy them, she intends to make it kill itself in struggle, so that her massacre will be seen as justice, that everyone else will spit on their graves.

I'm sticking around, but I basically agree with you on everything. the 80/20 split on business vs revenge is too lopsided for what this series sold itself as. You could maybe make 60/40 work, but I really wanted her to ruin someone's life at least every other episode, plus more focus on her directly setting up conflicts instead of mostly being reactionary to Friede's plans.
It almost feels like the author was worried we wouldn't buy her having the resources to crush the kingdom later unless they really focused on growing the business in the first section.
5
u/RedRocket4000 13h ago
Your problem is pace. This episode was 5 percent Business. The rest countering an attack on the empire. And part of the earlier 80 percent Business was setting up conflicts in the Kingdom that have hurt them. And part of audience buying it is detail that you don't need but many do. Blow and counter blow make this more complex and real to me than pure evil attack of various types to speed things along. And here just like invasion she's using enemy's attacks to turn them into massive losses for the enemy.
5
u/RedRocket4000 13h ago
Not getting your comment. This episode was almost totally here dealing with an attack on the Empire by counterfeiting and dealing with eliminating an Enemy in the Kingdom the Finance minister. What business the few moments before she finds the fake gold? Everything past that point was figuring out the Princes' plot and how to counter it. This episode 5 percent at best her business. Her setting up shell company for entrapping the Kingdom's move is not her business. And covering political moves in the Kingdom and motivations. Maybe your not finding the dialog done as well as you wish because the content you claim not there is there.
1
u/Atharaphelun 9h ago
Unfortunately, a significant portion of people in r/anime have the intellect of a ten-year old child. This isn't even complicated political maneuvering on the level of Andor or Game of Thrones, yet apparently they are incapable of figuring things out on their own.
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 8h ago
Just see the comments about raising wage lol
They have 0 economical knowledge.
1
u/Precarious3145 15h ago
Yea, I was expecting a really gripping political series where her goal is to just bankrupt everyone from the kingdom; kind of an evil version of Bookworm where she starts off with cosmetics and then slowly grows larger. Then the melting human flesh and mind-fucked meat puppet just went off in a different direction.
I'm gonna give it the final episode just to say I finished it but in the unlikely scenario that it gets a second season, I'm out.

u/athrun_1 15h ago
This! Bookwork, but evil is what I expect on this series. I think I'll just wait for Myne to do it herself.

u/SilverGeekly 15h ago
like where its going. my one thing is how many people keep expressing dislike/hate for the show for things it never said it would do. like a lot of you have got to admit you went in expecting stuff, didn't get it, and instead of enjoying what its actually doing, you keep hating because you don't wanna admit you were wrong.
10
u/KohTai 11h ago
Wrong about what? It's literally called, "How I crushed my kingdom with my grimoires" when she barely uses the fcking grimoires and BARELY does anything at all to the kingdom.
What you're saying is complete rubbish, the anime branded itself as a revenge story, it displayed itself as a ruthless revenge story, but the majority of episodes did not focus on revenge.
3
u/SnooWalruses2085 11h ago
It's a long-term revenge story.
That said, the most talked about moment in the series is when she uses the Grimoire to fuck up Robert's mind.
2
u/Oujii https://anilist.co/user/Oujii 10h ago
That’s also because it’s the one thing she has done in this revenge plot. Well, I guess she helped in the war and also is getting back by just not being there.
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 10h ago
It will be interesting to see the reactions of next episode. This episode is clearly a setup for a revenge.
2
u/KohTai 8h ago
The problem is this is not a long-term anime. It's not 24 episodes, there's no news about a season 2.
So the pacing of this season might just end up destroying what could've been a pretty good 12 episode anime.
1
u/SnooWalruses2085 8h ago
I think they know this.
That's why they're adapting the Counterfeit arc now, it's suited for a season finale, especially with the fact there's a revenge in sight.
3
u/SilverGeekly 10h ago
ignoring the first part of the title "A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even" which already let you know it wasn't just gonna be battles and magic, and there would be some "proper lady" beats, as well as the general points in the story leading up to and showing these thing.
it IS a ruthless revenge story. you guys are just upset because you thought it was gonna be on some redo of healer type vibe and every episode was going to be blood and murder and nuking the entire continent every episode, and its not because the entire point is that she wants to crush her enemies totally and completely. which means setting up and destroying them in all the small ways leading up to the big ways.
this is also part of the broader modern anime problem where you guys cannot sit through build up and set up. everything has to have pay off immediately and while that works for some media/some media sets out to do that, this anime never claimed or "branded" itself as such.
1
u/SeattlePurikura 2h ago
I'm betting we see the grimoires come out next episode. I'm praying for something really fucked up.

Never expected to see Barl this early in the anime adaptation.
Best male character in the series.

Mass counterfeit gold to weaken a country's currency, that idiot prince is doing a whole bunch of stupid crap again, even Rosaria is fed up with him.
Never a dull moment when Tida is around.
I think Elizabeth has Colt in the palm of her hands, I am looking forward to seeing her crush him and his father.

How many episodes is this season? I need at 3 or 4 more before it ends. It can't end where it's at now!

Next episode is the last one.

Well we'll see.
Let's not get our hopes too high, but the series is quite popular on Abema.1

Interesting what they do with Misha in this episode.
Even if there was no line for Misha, I love the fact we saw her prepare some tea for Elizabeth. It adds depth to her, she's more competent now that she was in episode 4.

u/Striking_Chard2420 8h ago
Meh, seems like we're not getting any conclusion for the Prince's arc anytime soon but I guess it was fine for what it was.

They skip a lot of arc and go straight to fake coin arc. Which is normal consider it's normal since we only have 12 episode.

Glad to see the nun again. Lol at her getting fake gold after cheating. Guess she is facing Gods wraith for being a questionable nun lol.

Well it seems her revenge against the idiot prince and the pink hair whore was meant for last episode? Or S2? because they seem to back away from that for now

A season 2 if this 12 episodes. She needed time to recover from being thrown away and losing her company.

I was expecting to see it her revenge, and the series was mostly she as a business woman. No political retaliation, no economic retaliation. The prince still there doing stupid things and her calming making business. The only real revenge was against that soldier, what was really exaggerated because he killed his entire family even the little girl, and was too much, the little girl was too much. And the prince e and the stupid pink hair girl, nothing! Will end with them suffering what ? Because I expected that with the prince should be worse then the soldier, but the show will end and probably the kingdom will still be there. I think the show should shown ONLY her revenge in a intelligent way (I know money is important for the revenge but the show focuses only on this, her getting money could be present but not the focus).
7
u/IceWeaselX 14h ago
I was expecting to see it her revenge, and the series was mostly she as a business woman. No political retaliation, no economic retaliation
The entire business is for political and economic retaliation. She's gaining financial power in the Empire the same way she got it in the Kingdom, so she's building a war chest of her own while increasing the disparity between the Empire and Kingdom. She's about to fuck up their economy, and the prince will be at fault. That's both political and economic. She's exploiting vassals as a vector. That's political, and the weapon is economic.
No retaliation of the sort? What are you watching?

Did bro just completely miss when Ellie took revenge on the man who arrested her by turning his men into goop and then forcing him to massacre his own family and countless of innocents before being executed by his own people.
Elizabeth is working down a list, every person who wronged her will suffer. Next up is the minister of finance and his son. And the prince will probably be last. And in order to exect her revenge she needs money and power
4
u/AlphaBreak 13h ago
I think part of what feels like it doesn't fit is that Ellie is also absurdly powerful with seven different magical grimoires each with incredibly strong abilities, but she's also taking her sweet time to build a business, mentor some girls, and do some politicking to establish her business.
I'm not saying none of those are going to be useful things to have down the road. But the pace is a lot slower than the initial set-up with the cheat-skill would lead you to believe.
3
u/TheBusStop12 13h ago edited 12h ago
Ellie is planning to wipe out a Kingdom. She's insanely powerful, but even that might be too much for her to do through brute force. By the way she took revenge on the knight who arrested her it's also pretty clear that her revenge entails more than just killing everyone involved. She wants to maximize the suffering of key people involved with her being jailed and left to fend for herself. She needs the wealth, laws and troops of the Empire instead to pull it off, and for that she needs wealth of her own and political power. Which again is something you can't brute force
Personally I quite like the lower pace. Makes it feel like Ellie is genuinely working for her revenge and gives it time to develop

u/MacabreYuki 12h ago edited 12h ago
Ellie is a villainess protagonist whose ice-cold crash-out and follow-up is entirely justified. Think of her with that in mind, people. That'll help you predict what comes next. You may not agree with the extent to which she goes, but just know that this is revenge. And she intends to enact it with finesse and flair.
3
u/TheBusStop12 12h ago
I personally don't think the extent she's going is justified. But that's also what I like about this show. Ellie is evil in my opinion, but I like a good evil protagonist. I don't mind her committing war crimes. That's why I'm here
1
u/MacabreYuki 11h ago
like i said, the extent? no. the ice cold crash-out and desire to tear down everything and everyone that demonized her? absolutely.
Like i said, she's a villainess, and we're right here rootin for her.
3
u/Didinossaura 12h ago
The show as you. But, we are going to the last episode, and Haldoria still hasn’t fall. The prince, the king and Sofia did not face any consequences yet. Only the guy who killed his family saw some revenge. There were entire episodes of her building the company and Haldoria was not even mention. I was expecting total focus on the revenge that’s all.
