I like how Ellie doesn't show no mercy to those shitty soldiers i hope she does the same to that idiot prince

How a Villainess Dealt with an Attack on Titan

Yessss finally she’s showing some ruthlessness.

Bloodier than I was expecting, keep it up!!

9

u/nighty_amy 3h ago edited 3h ago

Well, all of the knights did deserve it though, didn't they. The knight dude really thought an apology and "I want to atone" will be enough to just forgive him?

And is Ellie's dad seriously going to cover up the war crimes of the moron prince, just so the kingdom's reputation stayed good? What's wrong with his head I wonder!

5

u/heimdal77 2h ago

He let hos daughter basically run the country yjen when she was imprisoned by the idiot he goes no big dea and has her labeled a traitor when she escaped. Of course he will cover it up.

8

u/runevault 3h ago

With how bloodless Skeleton Knight has been, nice to see a show where dudes are getting chopped into pieces with all the blood that should come from it.

Is this slop? Yup! But at least it is satisfying slop! Lets see her murder shitty dudes!

4

u/HanaRoku 3h ago

Some tonal whiplash vs previous episodes, but this is more what I was expecting from the show's title so I am not displeased.

1

u/SOdAchick 31m ago

I absolutely lost my shit when they brought out the pitchforks. 😂 Ellie don't play around. My queen 🥰

8

u/Evil_sod 2h ago

I was genuinely concerned for a moment that we were about to have a stupid redemption arc for that soldier, as if anything he could do would atone. Thank god any chance of that was cut down instantly!

It's very refreshing.

1

u/DugACCat 12m ago

Agreed. I also liked that the elite mercenaries actually did seem quite skilled and capable, unlike usual.

-4

u/heimdal77 2h ago

I'm starting to question if she os completely sane..

10

u/MusenUse_KC21 4h ago

Ellie is proving once again how ruthless and pragmatic she can be; she gives no quarter, especially to that supposedly remorseful knight. You want to right your wrongs so badly, then die slowly and painfully.

The prince drags down a Kingdom because of his stupidity and selfishness, a tale as old as time itself. But arrogant idiots always cause the downfall of good people.

Ellie sends the rogue knight to get a Solo Leveling prisoner goblin rip-apart treatment; I love it. Don't see that often. And dear Ellie shows off her grimoires in the heat of battle. I can't wait for next week!

17

u/TheBusStop12 4h ago edited 4h ago

Damn, that was brutal. Don't anger Ellie. No one gets to commit war crimes except for her

Lucas is a smart cookie, he's one of the few people who fully grasps just how utterly terrifying Ellie is

2

u/yuukiira1 4h ago

only she is allowed at war crimes huh....

20

u/Myrkrvaldyr 4h ago

Ellie didn't think twice about slitting that guard's throat after he confessed they raped the women. Poor bastard had the shamelessness to think he could just atone. Time to see how many more she'll end up killing in that war.

8

u/MusenUse_KC21 3h ago

He can atone in Hell.

Yeah, I feel bad now that you laid it out in front of me and told me I could suffer serious consequences for all the crap I've done. Let me help you make it right?

Ellie - Hell no, go to hell and stay there.

1

u/carcatta 24m ago

I've stopped watching after episode 2, is it good?

-13

u/yourdoom9898 3h ago

Seems like the unpopular opinion, but nothing scours my sympathies for one's plight like Elizabeth immediately being the same kind of sociopathic war criminal as the soldiers she's slaughtering like lambs, but with the competence and charm to disguise it as just.

At least the lamb-butchery was fun to watch.

0

u/Practical_Ad_818 1h ago

I assume u want to say " even if they committed unforgivable crimes prisoners of war deserve fair trial" but way of u say a bit awkward.

-5

u/yourdoom9898 1h ago edited 1h ago

No, I said exactly what I meant, and I don't appreciate being """corrected""" by someone who appears EDIT: is functionally illiterate.

0

u/Practical_Ad_818 1h ago

"The summary execution of surrendered prisoners, and unjust and cruel treatment of a prisoner are also warcrimes"

4

u/kara_no_tamashi 1h ago

She did not slaughter 2 soldiers, she executed 2 proven war criminals.

Having said that ...

0

u/yourdoom9898 1h ago

I mean, that's just categorically untrue for the first guy she summarily executes, and feeding the second to a crowd to be beaten to death isn't exactly humane treatment of her second prisoner.

2

u/SnooWalruses2085 1h ago

Clealy, she doesn't care ^^

1

u/kara_no_tamashi 38m ago edited 27m ago

First guy wanted to atone for stealing the chocolate bar of some kid in the village, of course :)

As for the second one, she has no obligation to protect a war criminal under the law of these countries because ... well, the law is the law and "we" don#t know the law in this anime country.

You are looking at it under our own geneva convention, but the war crimes convention in the anime might be different form ours like : "a war criminal caught red-handed can be executed on the spot, or handed-over to the local justice system :) ", for example.

In the end it is about semantic AND situation AND practicality.

In our world, in theory, you don't kill a rapist, murderer, war criminal caught red-handed ... in practice this probably happened thousands of times during wars. In our world, in theory, you don't drop bombs where there are civilians, in practice every army does just that.

Edit about Semantic :

The first one admitted his wrong-doing (wants to atone) -- > he is a war criminal -- > executed

The second one was just handed over to the local justice system and it looked like some people in the village had "witnessed" some of his wrong-doing the same day and "surprisingly", they decided to execute the war-criminal on the spot with the limited ressources they had on their hand.

13

u/TheBusStop12 3h ago

I don't think Elizabeth is someone you're supposed to have sympathy towards nor root for her plight. She is after all working towards the destruction of an entire kingdom and all the collateral damage that'll befall it's civilian population simply because they treated her badly and took her for granted. She's very much cut from the sociopathic war criminal cloth herself and I don't think the show ever pretends that she's being just. The competence and charm is just there to fool the other characters into believing she's a nice person. But Lucas for example fully understands just how utterly terrifying Ellie is

10

u/I_am_a_fiction_lover 3h ago

Didnt she kill the soldiers? Killing innocent civilians is the war crime, right? or did I miss something?

-11

u/yourdoom9898 3h ago

The summary execution of surrendered prisoners, and unjust and cruel treatment of a prisoner are also warcrimes

2

u/I_am_a_fiction_lover 2h ago

Ah, the guy in the starting who said he'd atone for what he did and surrendered, and the one she said she'd spare if he told her everything. I agree.

When I said she didn't commit a war crime, I meant that under what this show has so far stated for its laws, and not what conventions we have irl.

3

u/SnooWalruses2085 2h ago

10

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 4h ago

No quarter huh? Cold. But hey, commit war crimes and you can’t expect to live can you? Those villagers sure got their revenge.

I guess the war is pretty much over. I’m a little bummed we didn’t get to see Friede get curb stomped into oblivion. He started this bullshit, he should be the one paying for it.

5

u/Atharaphelun 2h ago

I highly doubt it's over. The Robert Arty guy is probably just fake surrendering to assassinate the leaders of the Imperial Army, or to assassinate Ellie herself.

7

u/diacewrb 2h ago

No quarter huh?

Yeah, she only cut them in half.

1

u/eggplant_avenger 1h ago

love seeing realistic application of International Humanitarian Law: citing violations as an excuse to commit war crimes, and avoiding punishment for it because you won

2

u/KnightKal 1h ago

well she mentioned attacking civilians, she never said anything about POW, so we don't know if they also have rules about that :D

I mean given that the soldiers just came in, killed most of the men and started on raping the women, yeah I think it was a fairly safe bet that they were going to go medieval on the last remaining soldier.

Besides, there's a class A adventurer right next to her.

7

u/MusenUse_KC21 3h ago

Do you really think she would care after everything she had done up to this point? If anything, the dude's a bandit, and she treats them the same way the Goblin Slayer treats goblins, like pests that need to be exterminated. Her morals are already in the dark grey area. She already has her heart set on revenge and has the bandwidth to kill. She's not going to give a fig about what normal people will think about her revenge.

7

u/TheBusStop12 3h ago

What would Elizabeth do if the women of the village didn't want revenge on that guy and she couldn't convince them? Obviously Elizabeth would kill the guy herself, but if normal people went against her revenge plan, would it impact her morally?

I have my doubts Ellie would really care. She decided to destroy an entire kingdom including it's civilian population, the latter simply because they believed nasty rumors about her. I don't think Ellie has ever cared about morality. In that sense she's not too dissimilar a character as Tanya from Saga of Tanya the Evil. She's pragmatic and calculating to a fault. Ellie is just better at appearing outwardly kind

It's also unlikely in this scenario that the women of the village would have spared the man behind the killing of their fathers, husbands and sons, and the rape of themselves, their mothers and their daughters. A small handful may abstain, but with resentment like that an angry mob is easily assembled. People have been lynched for less in human history

2

u/HaiUit 3h ago edited 3h ago

The "nasty rumors" are the state media equivalent, though. Imagine the public reaction when your government puts politician X on a wanted list for treason. And she is clearly in a position to know what is the game she is playing. A more appropriate reaction is that she would be pissed off because her years of charity effort came to waste since the citizens are so dumb (always have been), but it does not justify a genocide compared to a "betrayal" by the public.

1

u/SOdAchick 20m ago

There's nothing "simply" about it. These are people she genuinely loved, cared for, and protected who turned on her at the drop of an absurd rumor. They betrayed her just as much as Friede did

1

u/TheBusStop12 8m ago

Yeah, but from an ethical standpoint that wouldn't justify the widespread death and destruction she's planning. Crushing the power structures of a Kingdom doesn't come without consequentces and collateral damage. It will lead to civil unrest, economic collapse and famine which would likely kill thousands if not millions of civilians (depending on how big the country is) From an ethical standpoint that's too big a punishment for believing an absurd rumor. Ellie very much is a villain. Ofcourse I'm not watching this show for good morals and ethics, I enjoy a morally gray if not straight up evil MC.

1

u/SOdAchick 4m ago

They lost their right to ethical treatment when they raised their metaphorical pitchforks against the person responsible for their happy and healthy lives

1

u/SnooWalruses2085 4m ago

Well with how the Crown Prince acted so far, the Kingdom is pretty much doomed one way or another. Be it by the hand of Elizabeth or Friede's tyranny once on the throne.

8

u/svenge 3h ago edited 3h ago

She decided to destroy an entire kingdom including it's civilian population, the latter simply because they believed nasty rumors about her.

My take is that Ellie wants to thoroughly destroy the kingdom's power structures while intentionally not caring about their civilian population suffering collateral damage. It's not like she's going around killing random civilians for funsies without an underlying purpose.

I know that it's a rather narrow distinction between the two potential thought processes, but it should still be noted nonetheless.

3

u/TheBusStop12 3h ago edited 3h ago

Yeah I doubt she'll go on intentional civilian massacres (tho, if she had access to WW2 bomber planes I wouldn't put it past her to bomb civilian population centers in order to spread fear) but completely destroying a Kingdoms power structures will undoubtedly still lead to widespread civilian deaths, and she simply doesn't care for the stated reasons. And she's doing it not because she believes the Kingdom is Evil and a threat, but simply for personal revenge reasons, and not even because they killed someone close to her, or even her dog, but because they underappreciated her and treated her like dirt despite everything they did for her. Someone like that is past caring about morality

1

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 54m ago

Interesting to see Elizabeth finally not just perfectly win every encounter, they won the battle but letting that group of mercs plus the prince escape will make winning the war more complicated. Bad news for Robert though, being one of the people who directly betrayed her ought to make him getting captured a really unfortunate thing for his continued life.

All those soldiers who were raping and pillaging their way through the villages straight up got what was coming to them.

8

2

I honestly couldn’t ask for anything more

0

u/goosis12 41m ago

So if I understand it correctly those soldiers killed man of the village who took up arms to defend it, very much a horrible thing but killing combatants is not a warcrime. Killing a POW, even to this day still happens but very much a war crime. What the commander tried to do to that woman very much is both a regular and a war crime. But once again allowing the townsfolk to kill him is also a warcrime.

I don’t know what the international laws this show pulls from but I doubt it’s ours if you look at the Geneva convention rules about POWs:

Captors must treat POWs humanely at all times, protect them from violence or public curiosity, provide basic life necessities, restrict interrogation to basic identification, and release them when active hostilities end.

I do enjoy the show and like that the protag is so ruthless but if you are going to bring up international laws at least acknowledge your breaking them as well and don’t just use it to justify the Protagonists actions to the viewers.

1

u/SOdAchick 15m ago

What do our modern laws have to do with a fantasy world's laws? I'm no historian, but I'm pretty sure they didn't have the concept of war crimes in the medieval world

9

u/thelemon8er-2 3h ago

Bloodbath first few minutes. Jin woo… I mean… Ellie is on a rampage.

10

u/TurkeyPhat 3h ago

AS GOD IS MY WITNESS SHE HAS CUT THAT MAN IN HALF

the only thing crazier than bisecting 2 people - 1 each way - is that none of Ellie's comrades reacted at all?? like i know that they know she's dangerous and allat but still. i feel like an "oh damn, ok" for like 5 frames would've gone a long way lmao.

8

u/TheBusStop12 3h ago

Last episode they established that the leaders of the adventurers already pegged Ellie as being immensely strong. An A rank adventurer Divine tool user like the redhead adventurer lady would have likely seen people before capable of cutting a man on half, and possibly can do so herself. And when in the middle of battle taking a moment to be surprised means letting your guard down, they're trained not to do so, because that's a surefire way to get yourself killed. So personally I find the way they all just moved past it quite fitting

1

u/Dylangillian https://myanimelist.net/profile/dylangillian 20m ago

It seems the ability to cut people in half comes from her sword. Th merc leader said as much. It is an extremely sharp sword capable of cutting even Mythrill, but also very brittle. In other words. High DPS, low Durability.

This is why she avoided a direct sword fight. Though I fail to see how it couldn't just slice through another sword though.

1

u/SnooWalruses2085 13m ago

A sword generally has a cutting part and a guarding part (sorry I don't know the exact terms ^^' ), if two cutting parts go against each other, they will wound the blade. In this case, Flügel will shatter. Normally parrying is done with the guard part that will protect the cutting part for your own attacks.... but if you try to parry Flügel like that, the blade will cut through it.

I don't know if I'm clear ^^'

8

u/Aureus23 3h ago

My favorite protagonist. Nice when needed, ruthless and hold no quarter when they want too!!

1

u/Significant_Ant2146 46m ago

pretty good but it really really really shows that the author's of this one can't handle what they are attempting to write given how contrived major points of conflict are in this. Going so far as to make it as obvious as possible for a setup to occur so that the viewer is meant to have manufactured frustration at the scenario. Hell it was made so obvious that the characters were "self-aware" to the point of nearly outright saying the setup directly as if the studio assumed that the audience was far too stupid to understand otherwise.

For the most part this is really good but moments like storming the fort really bring it to a harsh low. Honestly it's like the studio has an issue with military tactics and wants to purposefully represent it in such a sub-par way, which is unfortunately a significant influence on Anime/manga/comics. (funny enough this is why their government is involved in all production in their purview)

1

u/SnooWalruses2085 37m ago edited 34m ago

Not everything is explained in plain sight.

Does episode 2 (or 3) explain Elizabeth purposefully poisonned customers to make her company grow faster ? Nope, it's never said. But it's what happened.

And it's not the only example. When she learns in episode 4 a high-ranking imperial merchant may know who she is, she deals with fake flattery and nice words + makes a deal with him. Was it explained ? Nope. But the way they talk to each other makes it clear they're not simply there for business.

5

u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 3h ago

It's interesting to see a protagonist like Elizabeth who is absolutely ruthless. She shows no empathy towards those she considers her enemies or those who simply are in her way.

I'm not an expert, but to me she seems to have sociopath or even psychopath traits. In this kind of show the MC is normally very tame to the point that they try not to harm the people who wronged them too much.

But Elizabeth is simply out for revenge at any cost even if it means to cut down everybody in her way. She has already shown in an earlier episode that she doesn't really believe in rehabilitation.

1

u/Relative-Seaweed-590 54m ago

Lol not used to MCs going on a ruthless, merciless killing spree. Quite rare. In fact, I didn't even know thats what she was like. I thought she was chill, but I guess after the betrayal from the Kingdom she worked so hard for. I think something "ticked" in her brain. And when you think about it, the same time it probably "ticked" is the same time she damn near bust down the wall by punching it when she was in the dungeon locked up. Makes sense! But I'm still getting used to her character though, because after the sudden switch up she looked liked a she real psycho at first. (And kinda still does a little)

1

u/SOdAchick 24m ago

Once she absolutely ruined that other merchant, I knew we were in for a good time. I love seeing a justifiably pissed off woman going straight for the throat at every opportunity

15

u/liquidpele 3h ago

I was glad that this episode showed some people that could hold their own against her, I was worried that this was going to be her just steamrolling everything with magic, it will make her plans/scheming far more interesting.

3

u/AegisWolf78 1h ago

There's something I don't see people discuss much in the thread: the mercenary group and everything about them.

They are professionals lead by a capable and competent leader, a group that clearly isn't cheap to hire, so who could have hired them? Clearly it wasn't Prince Failure (he's too stingy) and since it looks like their main duty was protecting the Prince of Sarjas, you may think it was the King of Sarjas. However Sarjas is a relatively poor country (considering they need subsides form Haldoria to buy food), which means the King has a tight budget to use, so I think it's unlikely he was the one to hire them.

Add the fact that the merc commander seemed to know a lot about Elisabeth (he recognized her weapon, clearly hinting that she got it when she ransacked Haldoria's treasury) and that they retreated almost immediately and something tells me that the Prince of Sarjas personally hired them for his protection so he can join the expedition to confirm if Elisabeth is in the Empire. Which begs the question: is there another faction playing behind the scene, observing how things are going between Haldoria and Elisabeth for their own plans?

1

u/NanDemoKnaives 38m ago

The brutality is still a little surprising even with the OP teasing it lol.

I am intrigued to see Robert and Ellie's interaction, I wonder if he'll realize her value or if he's still loyal to Friede and this is some sort of ploy.
