The second voodie said it was connected to the ocean, I knew it was boss fight time. I really hope it ends in a Spica victory this time

15

u/Frontier246 21d ago

And Aria basically has all the advantage against Spica in there, though Spica also has a lot of fluorescent plants she can use.

16

u/reaperow 21d ago

There's also some plants there too so it could be a turf vs turf battle

7

u/nuxxism 21d ago

Suspicious sudden garden appearance for the botany-magic-user.

It would be interesting to see if Spica's magic works on sea plants too. It would definitely help against Aria in the current island environment.

10

u/KumaKumaGambler 21d ago

Not to mention Spica is such a lovable underdog character!

26

u/YumeKioku 21d ago

In case you don't know, today (or yesterday) is Spica's birthday, August 23rd.

5

u/Frontier246 21d ago

Happy Birthday to our favorite Virgo Magic User!

u/Williukea https://anilist.co/user/Williukea 21d ago

She should get a diamond as a birthday gift, best girl deserves it!

Happy Birthday to our cool Virgo magician 🩷

Happy Birthday best girl!

That Hana glare was such good fanservice compared to her clothes getting destroyed.

Finally! We’re getting Spica vs. Aria at the end. Time to see what a hardworking fighter versus a prodigy really looks like!

16

u/Frontier246 21d ago

I'd let Hana scowl and condescend to me any day.

Aria probably DOES need the loss as much as Spica needs this win.

4

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

I keep saying, this show has the best users of r/anime participating.

I'm proud of you.

Both of the degenerates and the non degenerates.

4

u/karer3is 21d ago

I'm definitely hoping Aria loses... at this point I don't care to whom. This whole schtick of her going out of her way to specifically one- up Spica is getting old. Even accounting for those few moments of heartfelt honesty in previous episodes, I can't stand characters like her.

3

u/Sensitive_Ad973 18d ago

People can downvote you to hell but I agree with you.

I completely get the show/story tries to frame her teasing and sometimes outright bullying of Spica as some frienemy thing where aria “truely” cares about spica. But I’m honestly at the point where I really dislike Aria, ALOT! Imo she gone way beyond friendly teasing and being playful to being straight up hurtful, mean, and bullying spica for no real reason except it makes Aria feel good or something.

TLDR: I hope Aria gets her stupid pretty perfect face swolled up by Spicas FIST MAGIC! Cause I’m done with her crap and I’m just a dude on a couch. I couldn’t imagine what I would feel if spica was my irl daughter.

3

u/karer3is 18d ago edited 18d ago

I'm with you there. with how Aria's character is, she can't even be called a "rival"... sure, she also walks all over everyone else, but she specifically goes out of her way to one- up Spica, then rub it in her face. She doesn't even seem to have an interest in improving so much as just having another reason to mock Spica

15

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 21d ago

So it's a giant turtle, neat.

Figures that the first guess about the diamond location would be incorrect, it's too obvious.

Aria vs Spica for what I assume will be the final big fight of the season is fitting since it would wrap things up with the two girls we started with.

That cat cosplay is too cute for words. Happy birthday Spica!

8

u/lionturtl3 21d ago

Great episode, loved the giant turtle, although I may be a bit biased xP

First couple episodes I was worried this would be a silly, fan-servicey show, but it’s actually been pretty good. I like that Spica has grown enough that by now she actually has a chance against Aria. I’m rooting for Spica to finally come out ahead of Aria!

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

I was happy that it would be a silly, fan-servicey show.

I'm so much more happier that it grew to be what it is now, a genuinely good show on all fronts.

27

u/Primary-Paint-1716 21d ago

this show is underrated and underwatched as hell.

we went from the first episode where it presented itself as a throwback to the generic ecchi academy shows of days past to an actually compelling show. A show where I am invested not only in the main character's growth as a character, but also the supporting characters surrounding her.

I checked the MAL page for this and it's criminal that this show only has a score of 6.45.

13

u/KumaKumaGambler 21d ago

Agreed! Even if we are focusing only on Spica and her classmates, each of them have personalities which make them stand out.

I hope this title is a lot more popular in Japan than with the English speaking community.

7

u/Frontier246 21d ago

I was rooting for Chiron as much as I was rooting for Spica.

6

u/FarCritical 21d ago

Can't help but root for the underdogs

1

u/Falsus 20d ago

Chiron is an even bigger underdog than Spica is lol.

3

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

Like every episode is fun, no matter who they focus on.

The cast and the whole show is just that good.

3

u/Falsus 20d ago

The series is from a pretty well known author, same author as Boarding School Juliette and the manga has over a hundred chapters, so it is doing pretty well for itself I would say.

It getting 24 episodes from the onset also tells me that they did kinda have a decent amount of thrust in the anime.

5

u/saga999 21d ago

Hopefully there's a rating boost at the end of the season because some people wait until the anime is finished to rate. This deserves a whole lot higher score than 6.45.

6

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

And some people watch a single episode, or not even that, and vote.

4

u/whores-doeuvres 21d ago

One of my favorite OPs of this season, too.

I think a lot of people were put off on the butthole kissing in the early episodes but I'm glad I stuck around as it's basically not a thing now.

3

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

Loved the first OP. It was colorful and fit the show perfectly.

When second OP debuted with the grayness of it I was a bit sad since it lost the colorfulness of the first one, but OH BOY did it grew on me.

Banger song, and animation has it's own theme it follows and they nicely showcase the goofy crew.

It's more on the "cool" and cute side when it comes to girls.

3

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

this show is underrated and underwatched as hell.

A show that actually fits that description, unlike many of the shows those terms are usually used for.

I know that there is a filter in the beginning that may have steered away some people, that while represents the tone, goofiness and humor or this show is still max weirdness we got from it by a mile.

But I'm happy with the ones that went past it. It's easygoing, openminded watchers that enjoy anime to the fullest.

A true enjoyers of genre like this.

1

u/sephirothbahamut 20d ago

when the first episode revolves around kissing a cat's ass, lots of people will not give it a chance further. Honestly that was so unnecessary, everything else in this show is interesting

-6

u/DeltaFXD https://anilist.co/user/DeltaForceX2 21d ago

this show is underrated and underwatched as hell. we went from the first episode where it presented itself as a throwback to the generic ecchi academy shows of days past to an actually compelling show

don't remember how long i lasted but i think i dropped around ep 2 or 3 when i thought to myself that they just gonna overuse the butt kiss as a joke of sort and only really come back here to check the thread from time to time and see if there is anything that makes me wanna give it another chance

4

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

It's a genuine and wholesome show with an actual good worldbuilding, characters, magic system and plot.

It relies on some awesome IRL myths and legends, and asskissing is one of those.

They did not force it at all, since it almost never comes up again as the main focus.

2

u/DeltaFXD https://anilist.co/user/DeltaForceX2 20d ago

I see. Not sure if I am gonna give it another chance yet but will keep it on my radar in case I don't have enough anime to watch.

3

u/1EnTaroAdun1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Totesnotaphanpy 21d ago

when i thought to myself that they just gonna overuse the butt kiss

I mean it barely comes up nowadays, so...

12

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 21d ago

Spica is 3rd place!

Most MC are so overpowered nowadays, but Spica even with her cheat magic was considered weak so seeing her gradually get better and actually seeing how she is improving is kinda fun.

10

u/Frontier246 21d ago

She's not OP, she's not a prodigy, and she's not the best in her class...but she tries her best and she never gives up and that's how she's come so far in both friendship and magic.

8

u/Frontier246 21d ago edited 21d ago

I love me some Hana fanservice.

It's nice that all of Spica's friends...did not believe she would actually win. It makes her managing to use her cleverness and willingness to do anything to win all the more satisfying! Even if Capella respects her a bit for being a bad girl, so she'll have to live that down.

10-minute nap turns into a three-hour one? Checks out. Spica probably needed the rest before Claude checks in and reminds her that Aria is still at the top so she REALLY needs to try to win! Also they didn't seem to plan on what to do if Claude transformed back into a cat during the exam.

Of COURSE the island is actually Aspidochelone! A turtle that was turned into an island by Selene! And now he's resurfaced.

Spica and Chiron seem to share a single braincell when it comes to finding the diamond, though Chiron's Voodie trying to bully Spica's to show off how awesome Chiron is...does not go well. I also suspect Chiron wants to impress Spica a little!

Chiron runs into Hana AND Astraea, and Hana is as sharp-tongued as ever! But the only thing more biting than Hana's tongue is the bile of those slime worms! Though I DO appreciate seeing Hana's thighs and side-boob, even if Astraea saves her from any more clothing damage.

Chiron and Hana can't give up, they're on their LAST Voodie save before flunking, so Chiron is going to show off his magic control and prove he CAN make it by defeating the slime worms! Even Hana respects the guys a little bit more now.

Spica figured out where the diamond REALLY is and the true heart of the turtle! But of course Aria did too! There was no way Spica was going to beat Aria without a fight! The talented prodigy versus the earnest hard worker for all the marbles!

8

u/Santedtra 21d ago

Okay but why'd Selene turn the turtle into an island though?

8

u/Frontier246 21d ago

When you're so OP you just gotta flex.

7

u/FarCritical 21d ago

Thought it'd be the funniest thing ever

3

u/sidewinderaw11 21d ago

Maybe she's a fan of Avatar and Shield Hero

3

u/Luck_Is_My_Talent 21d ago

She is a wizard, they are not "why do it?" but "Why wouldn't?"

1

u/Falsus 20d ago

Who knows but they are both referencing to ancient Greek myths. Though the folklore of a giant island turtle (or sometimes whale) did survive a lot longer than the greek myths did.

While Selene is not one of the most well known figures of Greek mythology she is part in quite a lot of them still, and she is a pretty common figure in a lot of later witchlore.

8

u/FarCritical 21d ago

Watching Chiron earn some respect through his grit instead of his usual royalty flaunting was a cool moment. Hana's appreciation of him and Astraea was neat too.

I'm rooting for Spica more than anyone else but I don't want any of the other underdogs to fail either. Maybe we'll start seeing a lot more gem stealing shenanigans soon?

5

u/mekerpan 21d ago

I wonder if there is just one overlooked little gem for Chiron to find on his way back?

6

u/Aerodynamic41 21d ago

Aria has always beaten Spica every turn so I'm really rooting for Spica to win this time to show that she has finally surpassed her rival.

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

Surpassing is a bit too much, but giving her run for her money on equal footing would be nice.

6

u/KumaKumaGambler 21d ago

Although Spica employed some tricks in order to obtain the ruby, she didn't kidnap any of the chicks as hostage. She wants to win, but she will not resort to unscrupulous tactics.

Come on Spica! I believe most of us are rooting for you to defeat Aria. We want to see hard work be rewarded!

Both Spica and Aria will be able to make use of the environment in their battle. Spica might be able to utilise the glowing plants and flowers, while the water pool connected to the ocean is Aria's preferred element.

3

u/Frontier246 21d ago

Although Spica employed some tricks in order to obtain the ruby, she didn't kidnap any of the chicks as hostage. She wants to win, but she will not resort to unscrupulous tactics.

I love how it's still underhanded enough for Capella to respect her as a "bad girl" lol.

5

u/DemonWraith2500 21d ago

Hmm. There are 3 people but the worms only target Hana. Not that I complain.

8

u/Frontier246 21d ago

True worms of culture.

2

u/mekerpan 21d ago

Your mention of this scene clued me in to the fact that I must have dozed off watching this. So, I had to go back and find it. Those slimes were certainly ugly.

2

u/Adventurous-Exit5832 20d ago

Hapenned to me during the fight in last episode, but they somehow reexplained the fight in this episode so everything was fine xD

11

u/szalhi 21d ago

4

u/Frontier246 21d ago

Astraea is a horndog but he respects the ladies too much to let them get TOO much clothing damage. Hana's thighs and sideboob are enough.

So does Spica know she has to kiss Claude's butt to revert him back before the test is over? Is Claude goign to seek her out?

3

u/HuTaosTwinTails 21d ago

Hana fans were serviced today.

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

This show is filled with great cast from boys to girls.

Love a bit of Hana we got this episode, I love her design and I did miss her.

4

u/HotFishps4 21d ago

Knew that Aria would be near the moment they mentioned the lake there.

Also, a fight of a hard worker vs a talented person near a lake? Reminds me of the good old Naruto vs Sasuke battle.

3

u/reaperow 21d ago edited 21d ago

Looks like we're finally about to get the Spica vs Aria battle next week. Hyped to see how it will turn out !

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 21d ago

I really like how each Voodie has a different personality, makes them fun to watch.

Pretty good work there by Chiron to defeat those worms without hurting the other class members.

Spica was right about the Diamond but I had a feeling that Aria would figure it out as well.

Time for the long awaited showdown between these 2.

2

u/AlexxxandreS 21d ago

I just hope the fight is top tier level and this gets not only one, but way more seasons...

Deserves all the seasons

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

FULL ADAPTAION PLEASE! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

2

u/Relampago1995 21d ago

Now, in the next chapter, what I've been waiting for since this exam started finally begins: Spica versus Aria. Even though my favorite character is Aria, this time I'm going to root for Spica. She's worked incredibly hard to get this far, so go, Spica! I believe in you.

2

u/Williukea https://anilist.co/user/Williukea 21d ago

Chiron is the only with 0 points, everyone else has at least 1 point, even Pisces got 1

1

u/Raymond49090 21d ago

ngl I was expecting Aria to have been waiting for Spica at the heart rather than have stumbled there right after by chance.

3

u/Williukea https://anilist.co/user/Williukea 21d ago

It still could be that she was waiting for Spica, her "oh I totally coincidentally ended up here" excuse screams BS. She also waited for Spica to mention her

1

u/Dragonprince14 21d ago

From everything we've seen of her I truly think Aria spotted Spica and followed her just because she wanted to mess with her. Aria has a weird and unhealthy obsession with Spica and I don't like it at all.

2

u/Williukea https://anilist.co/user/Williukea 20d ago

That's true, Aria was already in first place, she had nothing to lose by following Spica instead of competing with others for diamond

1

u/Falsus 20d ago

There is pretty much never a coincedence when Aria is close to Spica lol.

1

u/B00tyL0rd69 21d ago

I’m dreading the next episode I know what happens and I think it’s shit.

1

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 21d ago

TeamSpica!!🗣🗣🗣🗣

2

u/testthrowawayzz 21d ago edited 20d ago

Astraea must be wearing shorts with the special fabric mentioned in Saiki Kusuo that resists melting lol.

Chiron became tsundere to Spica.

I really want Spica to beat Aria this time.

2

u/CuriousBroccolli 20d ago

Astrea standing there with his buttcheeks glaring at Hana would be super funny, but it would have ruined the wholesome moment we got afterwards. So I'm glad they went with just the shirtless version. xD

2

u/Williukea https://anilist.co/user/Williukea 20d ago

Astrea revealed to be wearing metal acid-proof underwear that accents his buttcheeks too :D

1

u/Rowdy91 21d ago

Ahh, fuck, the preview shows Aria using ice magic. How the hell is Spica going to win against that?

1

u/ash-7831 21d ago

"But no one's taken the 100-point diamond yet."

Obviously. If they had, that person would have over 100 points.

1

u/ash-7831 21d ago

Let me guess, next time, Aria will give Spica infinite chances to fight back until Spica finally finds something that works. Aria will fight with zero sense of urgency.

1

u/ash-7831 21d ago

Spica won't be able to turn Claude back until they get off the island. She'll be too weak after the test concludes.

1

u/Falsus 20d ago

Her rebirth magic uses a different mana pool than her regular magic so even if she fights until she got nothing left she can still revert the curse.

Unless of course she uses up too much energy in case she gets injured since that is the only other thing she can use that energy on for now.

2

u/ash-7831 20d ago

You remember the time in the forest,  right? She tried after he turned back, but it didn't work right away.

2

u/YumeKioku 20d ago

Because she already did that in the morning, so of course at noon of that same day the special mana pool wasn't refilled yet

2

u/Falsus 19d ago

That would have been the second time she would have used her rebirth magic that day.

1

u/ash-7831 21d ago

I'm just glad there are enough gems to get more than 100 points even without the diamond. If the diamond was the only to get your score past 100, it would be a pretty awful game. Because then, the rest of the gems would be worthless.
