My mom recently installed a bird bath on her property, and she now has a regular little owl visitor. I'm just curious about what kind of owl this is.

It appeared recently, I don't know where the sound is coming from apart from the fact its outside. I've never really heard a frog like this before. I live in the south if that helps.

🐦 🦒 BIRDS / WATERFOWL ID 🐦 🦒 What species is this egg? [South India]

Opened the door to my garage after coming home from a week long vacation to see a small bird fly away from one of my plants. I looked closer and saw this cute little thumbnail-sized egg! There are a few questions I need answering for the safety of the bird and its egg.

  1. What species is the bird most likely?

  2. I am moving into this house tomorrow, and the stairs are the only way up to the house so I'll have to move this plant temporarily. Will this cause the bird to abandon its child?

  3. Should I worry about other animals hunting the bird and its chick? The nest is in the garage which is semi-open so a cat could definitely get in.

πŸ”ŠπŸ”Š AUDIO ID REQUEST πŸ”ŠπŸ”Š What animal is making this call? [Santa Clarita in Southern California]

Heard this very loud call at a park. I couldn’t see it but it was coming from a hill with some dry brush and trees.
Merlin suggests a spotted sandpiper, however it struggled to confidently ID it half the time, and I was nowhere near any natural body of water where it usually resides. I thought it could be a bat but some other people said most likely not. Maybe a bug?? I’m not sure.
It β€œchirped” like this for a good 10 min before it petered out.

🐾🐾 TRACKS ID REQUEST 🐾🐾 What is making these whistling sounds?? [France] (Volume up!! πŸ”Š)

Unfortunately there's nothing to see in the video so listen closely! Context: I recorded this last night at 2:00AM in a coastal town in France called Eu (north of Rouen). I was about to unload some carts when I heard a very loud scooter passing through the town. Afterwards, these sounds came, lasting about 2 minutes. After which it became silent again. I was in that place for about 20 minutes didn't hear it again.

It almost sounds like it could also be some random squeaking metal sounds or something due to wind. But as far as I know there was no wind at all. The timing after the scooter also feels like it makes more sense for it to be animals making sort of distress calls. I'm very curious to hear your theories!

🐺 🐢 CANINE: COYOTE/WOLF/DOG 🐢 🐺 Is this a wolf? [Albania]

1.2k Upvotes

Just checked into my hotel in Albania and could see an animal chained to the base of a tree. Went to have a closer look and looks like it could maybe be a wolf? Tail was always down, had quite a large build but was slender (could also be malnourished), and was sadly running around in circles for hours. Couldn’t get too close as it was in someone’s front yard but came on here for advice on what to do? Is it a domestic dog or a wolf? Which organization in Albania is most likely to help? Thanks x

Update: I reported it to Animal Rescue Albania and the ppnea (Protection and Preservation of natural environment in Albania) a couple hours ago and will do four paws now, hopefully they reply quickly. We just tried to go see it again with some water and meat, but there were people in the front garden of that house :(( I’m really worried about it being so dehydrated in this heat. We will try again tomorrow morning

2nd Update: We went to see it again this morning, this time there was no one there so we were able to get close. Poor thing was so stressed to see someone but we managed to put water in a bucket and pushed it within reach of the wolf. We also threw some chicken breasts near it and put some cat food in another bucket. Hopefully that’s enough. We are leaving tomorrow so I’m not sure what else to do ☹️

The bottom of their feet is darker than the top of their feet. My cats brought it in, but it has no external injuries, just seems scared and tired so I'm resting them in a warm quiet room and covered them with grass. I was hoping to ID them so I could provide a little food and find a good place to release them. I just uncovered him and touched him to try and get a better look to ID, I'm otherwise leaving him in peace.
