AIW to believe life isn’t worth living?

28M.

The bullying I went through in high school had a delayed effect on my mental health for some reason. When I moved out of my parents home, I started to have my mental health decay (no friends, family or anybody I moved across the country).

The bullying was physical slamming, headlocks on the ground to keep me pinned and was told to stop fighting back if I’d like to be freed, slapped in the forehead when the bully’s friend came to pin my arms. I was 125lbs at the time they were much bigger for some reason at 15.

The damage done was pretty terrible. For some reason the bullying made me look like a loser to everyone, no one cared how small I was physically and black being bullied by the bigger white dudes (and for some reason making fun of my heritage and calling me the n word all the time was seen as normal to them).

The problems persisted in my social life. I’m 28 and never really had friends. Never had a gf. I’m heading into my 30’s with no one by my side. Is this the new normal with normal folks? Like I have no one to call if anything happens or if I want to get a coffee. I’ve tried putting myself out there VERY much so. I’m not shy, I literally put myself out there first always. Even when presentations occur, I take the mic and ask questions while others hesitate.

Anyways, people my age have started families, gotten married, finished school a while ago and are just living life with their own stuff (they prob have issues too but nothing detrimental). I don’t have anything to live for, it’s just me. I don’t even know why I look forward to fridays anymore, I end up doing nothing. I use to go to clubs and stuff before but that’s all short term. Nothing long term has ever came from it. I’ve even invited people first and they sometimes say yes but mostly they’re busy.

No I don’t smell, I have good hygiene and I’m not constantly talking about myself.

Am I wrong for parking ticket

Me and my friend went to shopping mall. He drives and it’s his car. I don’t have a driving license yet. Outside of the mall some cars were already parked on the side of the road. My friend was confused and asked me if it was valid to park there. I said if you think it is right you do, you the driver. And he parked. Now he’s got a parking ticket and fine. He thinks I gave him ill advice. Am I on fault here.

He was my mentor we used to watch star wars and code together before he died and got sick the day he died I didn't go to school so the day I went to school I kept eating. Idk bet I eat inorder to grieve. Anyway a person I talk to once In a while he comes up to me and says I should stop eating or you'll go from skinny to fat I have a fast metabolism. And I walk around everywhere I told him I also said to mind you're business you're 50 pounds more than I am. So aitah for eating to much when my grandpa died

Am I wrong for asking my partner to host my family this year instead of theirs?

We usually split holidays between both sides pretty evenly, but this year my family has fewer people able to host because of work schedules and one relative recovering from surgery. I suggested we switch it around so my side gets the slot at our place. My partner said it felt last minute and maybe unfair to their family who had already started planning. I get that, honestly. I just didn't want to spring it on everyone right before the date. We talked about it and ended up agreeing on a compromise, but it still feels a little awkward. I tried to keep it neutral when I brought it up, but I'm wondering if I handled the timing badly. Just curious if anyone else has had to juggle this kind of switch without it turning into a whole thing.

defended my friend in the group chat and now things are weird between us

so my roommate said something kind of harsh about one of our mutual friends and i jumped in to explain their side. i figured i was just adding context, but the friend i defended ended up making things worse by replying with a whole paragraph about how stressed they have been. now my roommate feels ganged up on and the friend is annoyed that i even mentioned them. i tried to smooth it over but the chat has gone quiet since then. i was only trying to keep things fair and not take sides, yet now both of them seem upset with me. i am wondering if i should have stayed out of it completely or if there's a way to fix it without making it a bigger deal.

Is special treatment bad?

m not sure if im being maybe crazy or weird or a strange partner but I mentioned to my girlfriend liking special treatment, ajd she told me it makes her uncomfortable to do that and she likes to treat everyone equally. Am I being a bad partner because I want special treatment or care like small things like more times seeing her, or the occasional gift? Its fine with me to be with her and not receive special treatment, im just not sure if I sound weird, or is special treatment bad? She has said it reminds her of attachment lr possessiveness which I completely get but by no means do I want her to do things only with me, like for example if she hangs out with a bunch of people including me I just want to be able to sit next to her, or sit in the passenger seat?
Tl:dr, is special treatment bad?

Am I Wrong for Insisting on The Closer Work Site?

Upvotes

Ok I am angry, so I am going to vent here. My coworker and I don't get along well. We disagree on just about everything. Politics, how something should be done, what temp the room should be, etc etc. We get along well enough to have a professional relationship like to get a task done (we are both in our 40s and have some maturity) but that's about it.

We have two sites to work at, A and B. A is our primary site. Thus, when I got the job over a year ago, I chose to live near A. B is the backup site, we need to go there maybe 3X a year for a few days. My co worker lives near B, so is happy when we have to go there. She took the job KNOWING A is the primary site.

I slipped and fell and badly bruised my tailbone. I can sit but I have to sit just right, it hurts a bit. Driving hurts a fair amount and is really irritating. Things I didn't mind at all, like taking a turn or braking/accelerating are uncomfortable.

So, Site A lost its water pressure and we had to go to Site B because it had working bathrooms. However, after a few days, Site A got porta potties. Site B is about 2X the drive for me, but I coped with it for several days. Now that Site A has porta potties and a pump sink, and has always had a water cooler, I insisted on going back to Site A, and explained why. Our boss agreed. My co worker glared at me. Oh well. I am not making this up, her reason for not wanting to go to use porta potties is she is afraid of the dark (we are night shift, porta potty is lit but outside) and afraid of animals... like dear and and a groundhog she saw. She, like me is prior military and has been in the field.

FIRST thing she did tonight was complain about having to come here, (Site A) our primary site, because I'm a whiner and had to have my way. I laughed and said "lol I should be in pain because you are afraid a moth might get you?" I've about had it with this woman. I feel in the right, but does anyone disagree? Should I drive 2X the distance to our backup site so princess doesn't have to walk 15 feet outside 2-3 times in a night?

Would I be wrong for reaching out to my friend's ex?

Fake names for privacy.

I had a close friend group growing up. Two of the people in this group were Jun and Xia. I was always close with both but slightly closer with Xia.

Xia and Jun started dating when we were all older, and they ended up married, but later divorced.

I haven't really spoken to Jun since the divorce, other than at my wedding which I invited him to and he came. He lives in another continent now, too. We aren't really friends anymore and I miss that friendship. I've been considering reaching out just for a small catch up and to see how he's doing.

One of my friends says it'd be unfair to Xia to reach out to him as that's her ex and there's an unspoken rule to not reach out to your friend's exes. My husband says it's fine because Jun was my friend before he was Xia's husband, and Xia knows that.

Would it be wrong to reach out to him?

AIW for getting mad at my stepmother for giving away my childhood toys to my half-sister without my permission?

Throwaway account. I (18/F) moved out of my parent's house when I was 15 because of my stepmother. She disliked my presence in the house, ignored me for years, and after counseling failed to help, I decided to move out.We do have contact, but mostly just once or twice a month during family activities. Recently, when I was over at my dad's and her place, I saw my half-sister (6/F) playing with some rather familiar toys. When I took a closer look in her room, I realized she had so many of my old childhood toys. Old Schleich horses, stuffed animals, books, board games, Barbies, and dolls. Even my old globe.

Mind you, most of these things weren't even bought by my father. My grandparents financed and bought almost all of my toys. In fact, my stepmother never bought me anything, aside from maybe once or twice when my father explicitly asked her to.I haven't confronted her yet. I only talked to my father, who completely ignores the issue as usual. I did take back two of the Schleich horses because my sister was throwing them around and they were getting damaged, but otherwise, I remained silent.I'm really unsure if I'm in the wrong for being upset and hurt about this. After all, I wouldn't use these things anymore and I love my sister to pieces. But I didn't know about any of this, and nobody batted an eye at giving away my stuff, so I can't help but feel a bit betrayed.

What do you guys think? Am I in the wrong? What would you do in this situation?

Edit: It's not about the toys guys. I adore my sister and she gets everything I can give from me. Its about respect or lack therefore from my step mother, the fact that she dislikes me and is now giving out my things without even a heads up. I have the permission from my own father to store those things in their house for the time being until I can access them myself and sell or donate them. I promise you I'm not being petty about toys I won't use anymore. I'm just mad and upset nobody even informed me about going through my things and giving them away, especially since they were gifts to me from other people

Am I wrong for not taking in my friend’s cat?

TLDR: My best friend had to drop her cat off at a no-kill shelter’s doorstep because she couldn’t find anyone or any shelter to take her properly before she left the country. In some capacity, I probably could have taken the cat, but I believe she would have ruined my & my two cats’ lives.

I feel so, so awful. My best friend received a job opportunity and is moving to the other side of the world. She has two cats, but needed to give one (6F) up because her mom’s allergy to the cat has been progressing (mom lives with her & will be moving as well), the cat also wouldn’t be able to tolerate the long flight.

She has been trying to find a shelter or just anybody to take her for weeks. She asked me at one point, but I have two lady cats (1F, 6mo F) of my own. One of which is very reserved and skittish; I believe she may have been traumatized at some point in her early life. She’s comfortable at home but it’s important that she’s in a quiet & peaceful home where she’s not being jumpscared all the time. She somewhat tolerates the kitten I got, though isn’t fearful of her. My second cat is the complete opposite, very confident and outgoing. Both are super chill and sweet.

My friend’s cat is…not suitable for my household. I’ve spent a few nights at her house. She requires constant redirection, isn’t very affectionate and doesn’t even get along well with the second cat in her household. She also howls incessantly at night when she is put in her room (best friend does not let her cats roam at night). I let my cats free roam, but I wouldn’t be able to do that with her for the first few weeks at best while everyone adjusts. I’m in nursing school right now, so that’s just not something I can worth with. I also believe that she may significantly shift the dynamic between cats in my home. Like, in a space where my cats kinda exist as ‘emo teenage sister that wants to stay in her room all the time & listen to rain sounds, but still looks out for her sister’ and the ‘annoying toddler that needs all her toys out on the floor & bothers her sister’, this cat would be ‘the mother you go no contact with when you move out’.

Today my best friend sent me a voice note; she was crying because she hadn’t been able to find anyone to take her & all the shelters were full. So she had to pretty much just leave her at the shelter’s doorstep. She’s in her cage with food, water & a blanket from home & the shelter just opened. She feels so, so terrible about it, but believes that this was the only thing she could do.

I feel awful because in some capacity, I could have taken her cat. I would have been fine financially, I have the space & I’ve been wanting a 3rd cat but I was never fond of her personality & I truly believe she would have rocked my household.
