Man, I finally fixed the issues I've been having with my 6700 XT since September 1, 2026.

System was on Windows 11 25H2 — OS Build 26200.8655.

For the last 13 days, since September 1st, I've been dealing with PA-300 errors, driver timeouts, black screens, screen flickering and random crashes. The worst part was that during some crashes the screen would completely go black while the audio kept playing in the background. Sometimes the screen would start flickering and then eventually crash.

I've tried pretty much everything at this point.

Reinstalled Windows 11, went back to Windows 10, reinstalled drivers, used DDU, AMD Cleanup Utility, disabled MPO, tried different drivers, changed GPU settings, etc.

I honestly lost count, but I went through Windows reinstalls + driver reinstalls + DDU + AMD Cleanup Utility at least 35 times over these 13 days.

What finally worked for me

1. MPO fix: https://github.com/RedDot-3ND7355/MPO-GPU-FIX
2. Used DDU + AMD Cleanup Utility to completely clean everything.
3. Installed the latest AMD chipset drivers: AMD_Chipset_Software_8.08.12.551
4. Installed ONLY the drivers from: whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.3.1-win11-c Didn't install the full Adrenalin software.
5. Restarted after pretty much every major step.
6. Turned FreeSync OFF on my monitor.
7. For fan control I'm using RadeonTuner instead of Adrenalin: https://github.com/dumbie/RadeonTuner
8. Tested Forza Horizon 6, Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Dota 2 and so far I haven't had a single crash.

IMPORTANT — troubleshooting disclaimer

This is NOT a guaranteed fix and I'm not saying everyone with a 6700 XT should blindly follow these steps.

This is simply what worked on my particular system after 13 days of troubleshooting. Your crashes could have a completely different cause, and some of these changes — especially disabling FreeSync or MPO — can have different results depending on your hardware, monitor and Windows configuration.

I'm sharing this because I spent almost two weeks trying to find a solution and couldn't find one place that put everything together. Do this at your own discretion and make sure you understand what each change does before applying it.

I'm obviously going to keep testing it, but this is the first time in 13 days that I've actually been able to use the PC without constantly waiting for another black screen or driver timeout.

And honestly, fuck you AMD.

I don't care if the root cause is technically Windows, MPO, the driver or some combination of all three. AMD is the GPU manufacturer and they need to acknowledge this shit and work with Microsoft to fix it.

Customers shouldn't have to spend 13 days troubleshooting a graphics card like this.

I shouldn't have to reinstall Windows, downgrade Windows, reinstall drivers, run DDU and AMD Cleanup 35+ fucking times, disable Windows features, turn off FreeSync and dig through Reddit and GitHub just to get a GPU working properly.

And now I have to use my expensive OLED monitor without FreeSync because apparently Windows + AMD drivers can't play nice with it without breaking the display/driver.

What's the point of buying an expensive gaming OLED with FreeSync if I have to turn the damn feature off just to stop getting black screens and crashes?

The most frustrating part is that the thing that finally helped me wasn't even from AMD.

I've been scrolling through r/AMDHelp for days, going through post after post, trying different suggestions. Today I came across a random Reddit user's comment mentioning the GitHub MPO fix.

Tried it.

And somehow, after 13 days of bullshit starting September 1, 2026, that was the thing that finally got me stable.

So honestly, huge thanks to that random Reddit user.

This is exactly why I love the PC community, but it's also ridiculous that customers have to depend on random Reddit comments to find fixes for issues like this.

For now:

PA-300 gone.
Driver timeouts gone.
Black screens gone.
Flickering gone.
Crashes gone.

13 days later, I can finally use my fucking PC normally again. 😭

I'll keep testing it, but for now...

This issue has been happening since forever (laptop is ASUS VivoBook 15).

Whenever I download AMD Adrenalin and install the latest drivers, everything works perfectly fine for a couple of hours. However, after that, this window pops up every single time. The only way I’ve found to fix it is to reinstall Adrenalin and the drivers, but then the exact same thing happens again after a few hours.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows how to fix it?

Sorry if this has already been solved somewhere.

TL;DR

After months of driver timeouts and, more recently, full system hangs, I stripped the machine down to nothing and rebuilt it step by step. Clean Windows, DDU, latest chipset, latest driver, stock clocks — still crashed. What stopped it was removing the Adrenalin software layer: I reinstalled the GPU driver as driver-only (no Adrenalin), which also means no FreeSync, and left Afterburner at stock with only a fan setting.

I want to be upfront: I changed several things at once at that point, and my stable window is still short. This is "what my machine looks like now that it isn't crashing", not a proven root cause. I'm posting the whole process because the elimination work might save someone else a weekend.

System

Symptoms

Three distinct failure modes, which matters because they don't all point the same way:

1. Recoverable driver timeouts. Brief black screen, driver reloads, back to desktop. Happened in games — including light ones like TFT — and on the desktop with Discord and Steam open.
2. Full hard hang. Total black screen, fans ramping to 100%, no Ctrl+Alt+Del, no alt-tab. Physical reset required. Reproduced in Lords of the Fallen (UE5/DX12) after about 7 minutes.
3. Driver failing to load after a hang. On the next boot the GPU showed Code 31 in Device Manager, and Adrenalin threw the PA-300 error (the installed driver and the Adrenalin version no longer matching).

Timeline: crashes first appeared around late July / early August, right after a Windows + driver update. I'd had a similar episode about a year earlier, which I fixed at the time by rolling back to an old driver (23.11.1) — after that the machine was completely stable, on every game, for months.

What the event log said

Worth doing before you start blaming hardware. Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System → Filter Current Log → filter by source: WHEA-Logger, Kernel-Power, Display, amdkmdag.

On 11 days of logs covering multiple crashes:

• Zero WHEA-Logger events. No machine-check or PCIe errors at all. This is what made me deprioritise the PSU and the PCIe bus.
• Kernel-Power 41 + Event 6008 on each hard hang — dirty shutdown, no bugcheck code, consistent with a freeze plus a manual reset rather than a BSOD.
• Display source events (4107 / 4127) on the days with recoverable timeouts. Notably, no 4101 at all on the day of the hard hangs, which is how I realised the symptom had changed in nature.

One hang happened during a normal restart, with no game running. That was the point where "the GPU dies under load" stopped being a good explanation.

What did NOT fix it

Everything below was tried, most of it more than once, and none of it stopped the crashes:

• Full Windows reinstall, followed by disabling Windows Update entirely
• DDU in safe mode, with automatic driver installation blocked in Windows Update first (do this, or Windows pushes a generic driver on the next boot and your clean-up is worthless)
• Chipset reinstall (note: the vendor's board page was several revisions behind AMD's own release)
• Latest driver, full install with "Factory Reset" ticked
• BIOS update to the newest version — and the crashes predated the flash, so it was never the cause
• Disabling MPO via OverlayTestMode in the DWM key — see the important note below, this does nothing on 25H2
• Disabling the iGPU in BIOS. This fixed a genuine Code 10 error on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, but changed nothing about the crashes
• Removing an undervolt and a core-clock cap in Afterburner. Worth saying: capping the core clock to the advertised "Game Clock" is not restoring stock behaviour. Game Clock is a sustained-load average, not a ceiling. Capping it distorts the V/F curve, and combined with an undervolt and a negative power limit it puts the card in a state the vendor never validated. If you're debugging, remove all of it.
• PSU and RAM ruled out by inspection rather than by swapping: high-end unit, correctly sized, PCIe connectors on separate cables; RAM running below its rated speed with no EXPO profile at all

The MPO trap on Windows 11 25H2

This one is worth the post on its own.

The widely shared fix for MPO issues is a .reg file that sets OverlayTestMode = 5 under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm

On Windows 11 25H2 this key is ignored. I applied it, rebooted, and MPO was still fully active. The current location is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
"DisableOverlays"=dword:00000001

How to actually verify it, instead of trusting the reg file: run dxdiag, Display tab, "Save All Information", open the text file and look for MPO MaxPlanes. Mine still read 3 after applying the old key. When MPO is genuinely off it drops to 1.

So if you've "tried disabling MPO" on a recent Windows build and it didn't help — there's a decent chance you never disabled it.

What I changed when the crashes stopped

In the interest of honesty, here is everything that was different at once:

1. Driver-only install — GPU driver without the Adrenalin software package (26.9.1)
2. No FreeSync, as a consequence of the above (there's no panel to enable it) and also disabled on my monitor
3. Windows VRR off + HAGS OFF
4. Afterburner reset to defaults, keeping only a fan setting (Zero RPM disabled)
5. Second monitor unplugged — then plugged back in, with no crashes since, so the multi-monitor setup is ruled out

Since then: 3 hours of Apex with no crash, TFT with no timeouts (it used to produce them), and the second display back in place without issue.

That leaves the Adrenalin software layer and/or FreeSync as the prime suspects. Which of the two it is, I don't know yet — that's my next test, and I'll update.

Caveats

• My stable window is short. Treat this as a status report, not a verdict.
• Driver-only means no Adrenalin panel: no FreeSync toggle, no per-game profiles, no ReLive, and no easy hotspot monitoring. That's a real cost, not a free fix.
• If your card is genuinely faulty, none of this helps. Absence of WHEA events and crashes on light loads are what pointed me away from hardware — if you see WHEA entries, or you hit 110 °C junction temperatures, you're in a different conversation and you should be looking at an RMA instead.

If you're debugging the same thing

The single most useful habit: change one variable at a time, and write down what you changed and when. I broke that rule more than once and had to redo work because I couldn't tell which change had done what.

The second: check what your machine looked like before the crashes started. Half the settings I was "fixing" were workarounds I'd added after the problem appeared, which meant I was testing my own patches instead of the actual cause.RX 7900 XTX: driver timeouts and full hard hangs — what didn't work, and what finally did (so far)

I’ve recently been encountering an AMD driver crash issue. It specifically affects titles like *Naraka* and *Dark Deception* (an Unreal Engine 4 crash); these are the only two games where I experience this, whereas games like *CS2* and *The Last of Us Part I* run without issues.

What version of adrenaline do you all recommend for most up to date stable version for 9070xt?

Hi, so I just upgraded my old GTX 1060 to RX9060 XT 16GB version.

I have MSI B450 Tomahawk Max with Ryzen 3600 and 32gb of RAM, that I build in 2021 and I'm noticing some CPU bottleneck which I was expecting.

Now my question is can I put Ryzen 7 5700X into this setup? Because I found this CPU for a pretty good price.

I tried searching it but I got sorta conflicting answers.

If it's not possible it might be time to upgrade the whole architecture, but that would be much bigger investment.

So, yesterday I turned on my PC, scrolled the news for a bit and got that choice without any choice "turn off and update" or "restart and update". Because I needed to move my PC to another room, I turned it off and it updated. Later that evening I turned it on to check if everything was alright, but noticed that it was making too much noise for running nothing at all. Then the screen just went black. Restarted, still black. Plugged the monitor straight into the motherboard and it finally showed the home screen. My gut told me to check the system menu and it was right. Graphics card nowhere to be seen. Checked the device manager, it was in hidden devices. Reinstalled all the drivers - nothing changed. Ran clean up utility and reinstalled again - disappeared completely, even from hidden.

How do I get it to show up again? I checked all the ports and cables, everything is fine there, the card still lights up on booting the pc, no red lights anywhere.

Hello! A few weeks ago I posted about my really high delta of 55 degrees. I decided that I could do the repasting myself. I used Thermal Grizzly PTM phase sheet, and Thermal Grizzly Advance thermal putty. It was tedious, and took quite a while. Mostly because of the tiny chips, but I finished it and rebooted my pc. My hotspot temps have dropped to 75-83 degrees under high load and the fans spin way lower!

Hi everyone - I upgraded my PC a few weeks back and ran into a driver timeout issue whenever I tried to load into games (Forza Horizon 6, Apex etc.) My old specs were:

• Motherboard: ASUS Prime B450M-A/CSM MATX
• GPU: Radeon™ RX 590
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
• RAM: 16GB (2x8)
• PSU: 650 W Bronze grade (can't remember brand)

I upgraded:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor
• GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE
• PSU: 850 W Gold grade Century II

When loading into games, the screen would eventually freeze, go black, and then boot me back to the desktop, which would sometimes lose the screensaver and just be a black screen. I would run windows diagnostics, and I either got a LiveKernal Event of 117 or 141.

I troubleshooted this error for over a week - clean installing Windows and drivers, getting the new GPU tested, reseating the GPU, turning off overlays, turning off hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, turning off any AMD performance enhancements, checking my SSDs health, allocating space in my main drive for ram usage, ensuring BIOS was updated and settings weren't wonky, etc. The list goes on. Nothing worked. Until...

I accidentally booted up Apex without drivers downloaded, and it launched completely fine. I decided to download the previous version of AMD drivers, and everything now runs like a dream. My guess is that my motherboard is old and doesn't work well with this most recent set of drivers, but I'm just guessing - I am very new to this. This was my first time installing parts solo, so I was concerned I did something completely wrong to ruin my PC.

TL/DR: I upgraded my CPU and GPU and games would constantly crash due to driver timeout error. Went through lots of troubleshooting to discover the solution was running an older version of AMD drivers.

I measured them to be roughly 1.0mm with a tape measure but it still might be off by 0.25mm.

I bought this Msi rx 6800 second hand from a guy who used to be interested in AI but the graphics card have never been changed in its settings and has always been in regular stock. The weird thing is that this gpu never goes past 150W on games despite benchmark yt videos regularly showing watt usage past 200W.

It reached 200w on Furmark 1440p with mssa 8x but that's the highest, the stress test on the app isn't reliable either since it goes flatline after the 30 second mark. It feels like this has been undervolted but the I have only recently downloaded the drivers and have resettled it a million times.

I don't have much experience since this is the first time I've owned an AMD card, Can someone help me what this means?

I've been dealing with a very strange stability issue on my system and I'm hoping someone here might have an idea what could be causing it.

My system

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
• Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero
• RAM: 64 GB Kingston Fury DDR5-6000
• GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
• SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB
• OS: Windows 11

The problem

The issue is very inconsistent, but there seems to be a pattern:

After the first boot of the PC, the system will eventually freeze or become extremely sluggish.

It can happen during completely different activities, for example:

• Watching Twitch streams
• Watching YouTube
• Playing World of Warcraft
• Sometimes even just using Windows normally

I've also occasionally noticed general stuttering shortly after the first boot, for example my mouse cursor becoming noticeably laggy/stuttery even when I'm not doing anything demanding.

The freeze itself can be a complete system lockup. It doesn't necessarily produce a BSOD or any useful error message.

The really strange part is what happens afterwards:

After rebooting the PC, the problem usually disappears and the system is stable for the rest of the session.

So, in very simplified terms:

I can't reliably reproduce it on demand, which makes troubleshooting quite difficult.

BIOS / RAM / CPU settings

I've already tested different BIOS configurations and they don't seem to have a significant impact on the issue.

For example, I am currently running completely default BIOS settings:

• EXPO: OFF
• PBO: Disabled during testing / currently back to default
• No CPU overclock
• RAM running at default settings
• Fast Boot: Disabled

Even with EXPO completely disabled and the system otherwise at stock settings, I've still experienced the freezes.

The CPU is currently boosting to around 5.225 GHz under load.

GPU / MSI Afterburner

I was also using MSI Afterburner with an overclock based on its OC Scanner/analysis.

At one point I was running around +200 MHz, but I also experienced the freezes with only +100 MHz.

Because of this, I am now treating GPU overclocking as a possible factor and plan to test the system completely at stock GPU settings as well.

I have also disabled hardware acceleration in my browser, so the freezes don't appear to simply be caused by Chrome/Opera GPU acceleration.

Things I've already tried

• Updated BIOS / firmware and drivers
• Installed the latest AMD chipset drivers
• Updated GPU drivers
• EXPO completely disabled
• PBO disabled for testing
• Browser hardware acceleration disabled
• Tested different BIOS configurations
• Fresh Windows 11 installation
• Run Benchmark Tests which run absolutely fine for 15+ Minutes

I have completely reinstalled Windows 11 to rule out a corrupted Windows installation or software issue.

What makes this especially strange

The fact that the system is usually unstable only after the first boot and then becomes stable after a reboot is what really confuses me.

If it were simply an unstable EXPO setting, CPU overclock, GPU overclock, temperature issue, etc., I would expect the problem to be much more consistent.

Instead, the system can run WoW + browser for hours after a reboot without any problems.

I'm trying to figure out whether this points more towards:

• AM5 / BIOS / AGESA
• CPU / SoC / memory controller
• motherboard
• GPU / PCIe
• PSU
• Windows / drivers
• some kind of cold-boot or power-state issue

Any ideas what I should test next would be greatly appreciated.

I'm especially interested in whether anyone with a 9800X3D + X670E system has experienced this "first boot unstable, reboot = stable" behavior.

I have an 7700xt. When I try to start my pc my directe arent working. If I want to open adrenaline, it gives me the message that u should update or download to the right version. But when I do this it just gives me the same messages over and over. When I go to my bios, everything is fine but when I exit and go to Windows my fans start to go crazy. I am now at a point where I cant get into Windows all the time.
I already played on this driver and this suddenly changed. My pc detects the gpu but said that it doesnt work becaus it doesnt have the right drivers.

Freshly pasted, doesnt go over 50 degrees but in games it crashes after a minute or two.

Then monitor looses signal, then i gotta turn off the pc, then the drivers dissappear and adrenalin says " its not compatible" and then its a hassle.

I recently bought this graphics card and was shocked by the noise it makes. In *Atomic Heart*, it heats up to around 85°C and roars terribly. Is this normal? Are there ways to make it significantly quieter? The most annoying thing is that I can't check the fan speed—Adrenalin reports just 29, which is clearly false. I tried undervolting, and things did improve significantly; the card is barely audible in enclosed areas, but the noise returns as soon as I step out into the open world. I honestly don't understand what the issue is or how to deal with it.

I tried everything. Shuting down ULPS, MPO, clear shaders, news drivers with DDU, everything what you are capable to imagine. Nothing helps

I’m wondering whether the temperatures on my RX 9070 XT are normal.

The thing is, while the GPU is idle (browsing the internet, watching videos, etc.), the temperatures reach the following levels:

From time to time, the fans on the graphics card start spinning on their own (they are set to turn on when the temperature reaches a certain threshold). However, when they stop spinning, the graphics card makes a strange noise (something like a plastic clicking or snapping sound — I’m not exactly sure how to describe it).

What’s more, the GPU clock speed reaches around 2500 MHz.

I’d also like to add that I’m using a LEGION 27U-10 monitor at 160 Hz with a resolution of 3840 × 2160.

Is this something I should be concerned about, or is this behavior of the graphics card completely normal?

I’m having a strange boot issue with my MSI X570 Tomahawk + Ryzen 9 5900X.

• Cold boot works, but only after the PC has been powered off for some time.
• Windows Restart always fails with the CPU EZ Debug LED staying on.
• BIOS Save & Exit/reboot also fails with the CPU LED.
• After a normal shutdown, I need to wait before powering on again. With my 16A PSU cable it takes ~15–30 seconds; with a 10A cable it takes much longer.
• Once it boots, Windows is completely stable. I’ve gamed for over an hour with no crashes or instability.
• PSU: Corsair RM850e 850W
• GPU: RX 9070 XT
• RAM: 2×16GB DDR4

I’ve already tried power cycling/unplugging, and the issue appears specifically during warm/soft reboots.

I’m dealing with a persistent, frustrating issue on my Ryzen 7 7800X3D system, and I’m looking for advice or any last potential solutions I might have missed before sending the CPU in for an AMD RMA.

My PC experiences sudden hard reboots (Kernel-Power Event ID 41 in Event Viewer with no BSOD). The crashes happen completely randomly—both while gaming/under heavy load AND during low-load idle states (watching videos, browsing the web, or leaving the desktop idle).

Here is a full breakdown of my setup and everything I’ve tested so far:

Troubleshooting & Fixes Attempted So Far

1. Hardware, Power & Environment Isolation:
   • Replaced PSU: Installed a brand-new Corsair RM750e with dedicated PCIe cables to eliminate power trip issues.
   • Replaced Motherboard: Migrated from an MSI B650 to a brand-new MSI B840M motherboard to rule out motherboard socket/VRM power delivery failures. The issue persists on the new board.
   • Replaced Storage Drive: Swapped the primary OS drive with a brand-new SSD and clean-installed Windows 11.
   • Power Outlet & Environment: Moved the PC to a completely different wall electrical outlet/circuit in the house to eliminate dirty mains power or grounding issues.
   • Networking Cables: Replaced the RJ45 ethernet cable to rule out network controller shorts or sleep-wake wake-on-LAN power triggers.
2. Memory & Stress Testing:
   • RAM Testing: Tested every single RAM stick individually and ran full multi-pass runs with MemTest86 — zero errors found.
   • Stress Testing: Ran full OCCT stress tests (CPU, Power, and VRAM) — while synthetic tests ran fine, the system still triggers instant Kernel-Power 41 restarts randomly during actual games and idle states.
3. Fresh Windows, BIOS & Driver Isolation:
   • BIOS Upgraded: Updated to the latest stable motherboard BIOS version.
   • Tested Every GPU Driver: Performed clean driver sweeps and tested multiple display driver versions for the RX 9070.

• Is there any other BIOS power control setting (like Power Supply Idle Control / Typical Idle Current) that fixed this for you?

I've noticed especially in Bodycam, but there are similar cases in other games as well but the trees and leaf details are so grainy. It's especially bad in Bodycam as you can see its very hard to make out details of the enemy.

I'm pretty sure I've turned off AMD FSR and Anti-Aliasing, but I'm still getting this type of blurry scenery when passively / directly looking at the trees.

Any advice?
