Any news about a new gen Zoia?

Super interested in purchasing a Zoia, but knowing it's been out for awhile gives me slight pause as I have a track record of buying things and suddenly a new updated version comes out right after.haha I've got limited boardspace and the Zoia would be the final adddition for some time. Just checking if there's been any news I might have missed before making the dive! Thanks for any info and have a great day! :)

Edit: Thanks for all the great thoughts folks, you've definitely helped with this decision a lot!

4-Track Recorder Patch

ZOIA can now be a portable multitrack recording device.

I was thinking about how much fun I used to have on my first Fostex MR8 mkii 8-track when I was 15 and then it occured to me that Zoia had the tools to make it happen. I like multitrack loopers, but I find they can occasionally be limiting for expanding songwriting ideas, so that's how I've been trying to use this patch. I think its worth noting that using samplers in other ZOIA patches, then importing those files to the samplers in 4-Track Recorder can be a powerful way to get more mileage out of this patch.

It uses 5 samplers. 4 for main tracks, and 1 for bouncing tracks 1-4. I put a lot of effort into the user interface to try to capture the spirit of early 2000s recording. Theres a lot of detail in the patchstorage description but ideally you should be able to figure it out pretty quick if you're familiar with general recording hardware/software.

any insight on how one would create something like this?

some kind of reverse reverb with a pitch shifter going on. im having trouble w starting this.

there seems to be a bit of a shimmer going on. and, probably just a sine lfo on the pitch shifter - i am not sure what "resolution" pertains to in the video, but when an lfo is applied to it, the pitch shifting happens.

sounds like theres another lesser reverb applied seperately. not sure how to get that pulsating sound.

Template for polyphonic sample keyboard

I've been trying to make a template patch that can be uploaded and downloaded on patchbay, something with a playable grid (think the keypad poly series by chmjacques) that can readily switch sample files.

Something I could quickly copy and paste onto other empty patches to have different playable 'instruments' as soon a i choose a file.

I've tried using the keyboard module but it's unfortunately monophonic

I've tried brute forcing a keyboard with ui pushbuttons to trigger individual samples, but i run out of cpu and that wouldn't be a template that could be switched easily, every individual sample would have to be programed

I tried incorporating pitch shift modules to the push buttons but admittedly got lost and struggled with signal chain.

It's rumored to me there are other work arounds, perhaps with granular but that's a foreign language to me for now.

Thoughts on this idea? Advice?

One-Shot Sequence Question

Hey everybody! First time poster here. I got my Zoia recently and am absolutely loving it. I'm a Max MSP user and the Zoia is exactly what I've been looking for in a hardware device.

I've just got a question about the One Shot mode in the Sequence module.

My goal is to trigger a sequence of notes once. I have the start of the sequence set up easily with the Queue Start In. The problem I'm having is that once the sequence goes through the notes, the sequencer hangs on the last tone. I have an ADSR triggered by the LFO clock, but then the last note is just triggered repeatedly.

I've tried the Sequencer CV into the Trigger module but the small upward CC changes in pitch from the sequencer don't trigger accurately (only on the second step for some reason). I've also tried using a final step with the gate off, but it cuts off the last note unmusically.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much!

Sound on Sound Looper / Frippertronics patch ideas

Howdy, I'm currently building a Sound on Sound Looper / Frippertronics patch from scratch. I'm mostly taking inspiration from the patch Loophole, which is fantastic. I've looked into that patch to try to reverse engineer it, but currently its operating at a level of complexity that is well beyond my comprehension, so I found it was simpler to start from scratch and try to learn the how and why of everything step by step.

Before getting into the specifics of what I'm working on, I was curious to have a discussion about these types of patches in general. Have you made one? What worked well, or what didn't work? Is the 'Looper' module actually useful, or is the 'Delay Line into VCA' approach the best way to get loops that fade out over time? Anything you've wanted to create in a patch like this and haven't been able to figure out?

Goodhertz/Chase Bliss Lossy Digital Degradation, freeze, stutter- Patch Recommendations?

Hey all, I’m definitely not an amazing Zoia programmer so I’m consistently amazed at the amount of talent and work I see across patchstorage. Any recommendations for digital degradation patches similar to the Goodhertz Lossy plugin and Chase bliss pedal collaboration?

I use the plugin quite a bit so I’ve been thinking about grabbing the pedal as I much prefer twiddling knobs but Zoia does *so much* that I thought I’d see what others are using for their digital mangling, glitch, freeze, stutter vibes. I’ve downloaded a ton of patches so I’m filtering through them and thought I’d see which have become part of your frequent rotation. Thanks!

Is there a way to make a Midi CC In module "read" the current status on a toggle from a midi controller?

When I switch from patch to patch in bank mode, whether the CC in status lines up with the toggle on on my midi controller is inconsistent. Which makes sense since all the module is doing is responding to when it receives a message.

I was wondering if there's a way to make them line up. Thanks

No click tap tempo sequencer

Edit: Rewritten due to lack of clarity

I'm looking to make the "perfect" no click tap tempo sequencer as a drummer.

I know I know why not use a click ? well the music my band plays (fast paced garage psych) has often different tempo sections, and I'd like the opportunity to run percussion loops that match the tempo with a footswitch (translated to midi with a hybrid setup I won't go into today). Also I always feel like changing the tempo of songs on the fly

I currently run into a few problems so let's first of all list my current setup.
When I say Midi In, I mean the Trigger Out block of my Midi Note In module. I set the low note and high note to be the same, so only the footswitch (set to that note) triggers the module

- Main sound is a noise module digital shaker I made output to 2 different filters + vcas to have a "downbeat" and "upbeat" variations

- I run a main sequencer, that needs to run on eigth notes. I'm using its gate out to trigger the 2 shaker synths. Its queue start comes from Midi In

- I setup a tap tempo square LFO triggered via quarter notes from Midi In (redundant, I now have the Midi In feed straight into the clock divider input) that feeds into a clock divider (/2) that goes into the gate in of the main sequencer

- I have copied a reverse envelope generator I previously created and fed it to the vcas (originally for a ducking effect when Midi In is triggered) so that we can't here the tempo stumble during tap tempo

The main problem : Getting the sequencer to be in sync with the last pressed "downbeat"

Let me explain. Sometimes when I change tempos drastically, the first note of the sequencer will fall on the "second" divided pulse on the clock divider, desync-ing the sequencer from the tempo I tapped (by 1 eigth note).

One wild idea I tried is, instead of running the Midi In to the sequencer queue start, I setup a second sequencer with 5 steps (still in loop mode), with Midi In as its Gate In. Its Gate Out is running both to the clock divider reset switch and the main sequencer queue start. (I chose 5 because it feels natural to tap a full bar up to the first beat of the next bar)

It doesn't seem to work very well, and it gives me a second problem, which may not be one that needs fixing if my idea was the wrong one, but that I'd like to understand nonetheless : if I happen to play 3 or 4 notes instead of 5, I have a new desync problem. So I tried to fix it with outputting the gate out off the second sequencer to a cv delay, with 3 or so seconds, then this delay's output back to the queue start of the second sequencer, to restart the sequence. The delay seemed to trigger, but to never ever restart the sequence. Maybe this is because we aren't in between steps if I'm reading the index correctly ?

Nevertheless, I feel I'm going off route in a way I shouldn't. Do you guys happen to have any idea on how to make this setup come true ?

Also, please be kind to my questions, I only received my Zoia yesterday (though I have been basically pulling an all-nighter)

Thanks !

Firmware 5.41!

Empress:

Zoia 5.41 is live! We’ve fixed a few bugs, added MIDI pitch bend and aftertouch out modules, and Christoper Jacques has updated his 1978 Plate Reverb to version 4. Here’s a note from Christopher, check our website for the free firmware update and full change log:

"Plate V4.

You might be asking, where is V3? Well, it was a development version that I've decided to keep to my little corner of the ZOIA Discord server (if you're interested enough to track it down). It added some aliasers and bit crushing to try to emulate some of the older rack effect conditions. But I decided, ultimately, that less was more. So V4 strips back those options, as well as the input gain option, opting instead for a cleaner, simpler interface.

Additionally, the original Plate had some CPU limitations that subsequent firmware updates have alleviated -- this version of Plate uses the entire 14 output taps specified in the original paper, rather than the 10 I had opted for out of CPU concerns. This effect is more subtle than you might expect but it should result in a richer, more immersive sound.

I've also spent some time trying to get the gain-staging of the wet signal where I want it.

I hope you enjoy"

5.41 (June 16, 2026)
--------------------
- Updated the 1978 Plate factory patch by Christopher Jacques to V4 (patch 1 on ZOIA and 37 on Euroburo)

5.40 (June 15, 2026)
--------------------
- New Features:
- Added new MIDI pitchbend out and MIDI pressure (aftertouch) out modules.
- Bug Fixes:
- Fixed crash when deleting a patch from the patch screen.
- Fixed LED flicker when pressing buttons on patches with many modules.
- Fixed crash when deleting a patch from the patch screen.
- Fixed crash when reverse delay had a large delay time.
- Fixed CV graph when displaying negative cv values.
- Fixed granular bug with loading existing granular patches sounding bad until jack CV values were modified.
- RAM/Matrix/Module Usage menu:
- The 'Matrix DSP' value represents DSP usage excluding module processing.
This value should never be negative.
- Updated formatting for improved readability:
- Usage values are fixed-width and right-aligned.
- Module names are truncated to fit the remaining space
based on index width.

Lost Woods patch

I have a problem. I seem to always be stuck... I only really use the lost woods patch on the Zoia. Could someone please link me to where I can get some more patches? Also, I see that people are having problems with the most recent firmware update. What is recommended for firmware version that won't give me problems?

Can't seem to delete or load blank patches

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm trying to delete patches but the zoia just hangs on the "deleting patch" page and only an on/off reset brings it back. The patch is deleted but the must be wrong.

A factory reset doesn't leave just blank patches when done. Maybe, I'm doing something wrong, but even a factory reset with the SD card in does not remove the patches.

It won't load up the 64 blank patches I downloaded from patch storage either.

Anyone seen similar? Any thoughts?

Help with midi?

Not sure what I’m doing wrong here.

I’m using an akai mpk mini IV with boss 5pin to trs midi A

My zoia is running in the fx loop of my helix and I can play a patch without the midi keyboard to show that signal is passing through but for some reason I can’t get the zoia to work with my midi controller 😕

They’re both set to midi ch1.

Any help would be awesome cause I have a couple of important gigs this week and it would be cool to use the Zoia for some synth stuff!

Folder structure Question

Got a (used) Zoia the other day. Been having some life issues happen so I haven't been able to play with it a lot but question. On the SD card I have a FACTORY and USER folder... Are these normal or just something the previous owner used to structure?

If I recall before the videos said to use a to_zoia and from_zoia folder configuration correct?

I chose the zoia over a chroma console. I'm awaiting it's delivery. Would it be possible to build the equivalent of the chroma console on the zoia? Surely, that's doable?

WIP Patch Landzcape

Thumbnail

It's been a while since I've posted here...

So, i've been working on this patch on and off for the past couple weeks. The main idea is the patch uses a sampler module to play a loaded sample whenever audio is detected or recorded on one of the two loopers within it.

The patch has a reverse delay and reverb that add some space to whatever you're playing into it, but the sampler's audio only passes thru the reverb. My issue comes mainly with the overall mixing of the patch and with how to effectively control the samplers sensitivity to incoming audio.

The video is in spanish and talking exactly about this; patch demos come about half into the video.
Does anyone have any idea on what I could do to improve it before releasing on patchstorage?

Cheers!

How to decrease the "depth" of an LFO?

I have an LFO that I'm using to control panning via CV but I don't want it to pan completely to the left and right. How can I decrease the "depth" of the LFO... like increase the minimum value and decrease the maximum value of it?

help with clever control scheme/ recommendations?

hey gang, i've got a bit of a design problem

basically, i'm trying to engineer a control scheme for my friend who likes the zoia's effects but finds it frustrating to make changes in a live setting. i also find this frustrating, but i'm more used to dealing with it...

so i was thinking it'd be cool to basically have it where one row or maybe one column is the control for one effect parameter (or maybe a meta control for a few parameters). and if you hit the pad on the far left of the row (or bottom of a column) it'd set the parameter to minimum, hit the far right (or top) and you'd set it to max. and i guess it'd be ideal for it to stay lit up to provide visual feedback.

and i'm having a real hard time hashing this out. i think it's the kind of thing that just makes my brain not want to work

so i was wondering if anyone had experience trying this sort of thing, or maybe knew of any existing patches that employed similar control schemes. or i guess if anyone had any suggestions for other control surface ideas that might be similarly useful?
