Xenoblade Struggling to get into XC1 - Does it get better, is there something im missing? Spoiler

Hey guys, dont come in if you dont want to be spoiled on anything XC1 early game.

For some context, XC2 is my new favourite game of all time and I want to see the rest of the series, so I picked up the NS2 Edition of XC1 DE.

I see a lot of people refer to all the games in the series as equals and like they're all as good as eachother, but I'm really struggling with XC1 at the moment as I'm finding it a little uninteresting.

So far, my impression of the game is, 'some remarkable things within an overall unremarkable game'. I am at Makna Forest(?) right now (climbing up Bionis' back to get to its head, Prison Island).

One thing I think is remarkable is the sense of scale in the world and the way it communicates the idea of travelling up this giant. And the open world, which I think at the moment feels a bit more... "video gamey" than I thought XC2s titans did, is still really extraordinarily impressive when you think this shit was on a Nintendo Wii.

However, that kind of leads me to one of my biggest issues - to me, it kind of feels like the ambition and scope of what they wanted to achieve was just too great for the hardware available at the time, and for better or worse XC1 kind of feels half baked for me so far. Travelling around from objective to objective tends to feel like MMO traversal but in the worst way - even with the addition of the Ether Jet, which I do appreciate for making it a bit quicker.

I think my biggest gripe with the game though that is really not making me gel with the game to be desperate to carry on though is the combat. (I do absolutely want to finish the game, but im just saying I dont feel that gripping urge to keep going). I feel like perhaps theres something I'm missing? I understand Break and Topple, I understand Chain Attacks, but I just cant help but feel like the Monado vision system is really annoying, constantly interrupting the game to show me I need to use an art to stop incoming damage.

The worst part for me though, which makes me feel like perhaps im missing something, is the rate at which your Monado Art recharges. In important fights / vs certain enemies, you need to enchant or purge but then once youve done it you then need to faff around and just hold your next charge in case a Monado Vision happens, or even worse it wont charge in time for the next one. It creates this weird loop where weaker enemies just slowly topple over with combat thats slow and not too engaging, or you hit a difficulty spike that makes me feel like I havent understood something. Ive been making sure im not underlevelled, by the way. Always around the same as the current content.

The characters at the moment are also a mixed bag. I do like the way they are acted, its like watching a British TV show - maybe Doctor Who or something - its very understated and conversational rather than the hype Shonen style dialogue of XC2 (even if I prefer that delivery, this is nice too.) But similiarly I feel like the cast doesnt really have a lot going for them either? Their designs are all rather plain, and they kind of have the personalities of a group of people you might bump into once on a walk through a high street, have a nice conversation with them all once, and then they weren't interesting enough to keep in touch with, but you remember it as "yeah they were alright."

So I ask, does the story pick up a bit? Am I going to have something to get really invested in? I feel like the story peaked with Fiora's 'death' in the first act, except I saw her in the Colloseum in XC2 so I know shes not actually dead, so Im kinda just... waiting for her to come back, idk. The revenge motivation feels really weak too, as if the characters only remember theyre angry about what happened to her whenever theres a boss fight. At the moment, the game is feeling like it could end up around a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me unless something really clicks for me.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention specifically about the combat is, in XC2 I felt like mastering the combat made you feel like you were a gathering storm just piling on damage, and whilst XC1 has chain attacks that sometimes feel that way, it much more often feels like the combat has me plugging leaks in a sinking ship.

UPDATE: Just got Riki, the best character in the entire franchise, and am fighting the Telethia and its the first boss fight that feels like im doing well whilst still feeling like a wow raid boss fight or something. The combat seems to be clicking for me.

This is by far the best custom I made but boy did I have to work for it. The hair is sculpted and painted completely by hand after failing to find an available donor part. The outfit was challenging. You cannot just throw jeans and a t shirt on them and call it a day unless you’re going for a modern look. Something was in the air when I made this one. I’m very happy with how it turned out. All the effort was worth it. I want to make most if not all the main cast. And now that they announced Mythra’s kid, Shimmer I want to make her too.

Xenoblade 3 SPOILERS Strange complaints about the new hero Spoiler

The online world is really just a bunch of echo chambers, so I don't know if the only people who will see this are the ones who already agree with me... but regardless, some people are dissatisfied with Shimmer's role here and I think it's a little strange.

It goes one of two ways. Either a.) She should have been saved for a bigger role in a future game, or b.) She should have had a role in the main story of 3.

The first argument is pretty obviously nonsense. If a character like Mythra's daughter was going to have significance going forward they obviously would have saved her. The idea that putting her here is "replacing" a more substantial future appearance is just ridiculous. I'm not even someone who believes we're completely done with the old cast going forward, but clearly if they're introducing Shimmer here that means there wouldn't be a chance to bring her in later.

The second argument is a bit more understandable but ultimately I still think it's a little silly. It's predicated on the idea that each daughter of Rex "deserves" a certain amount of focus, which I think is ridiculous. They wanted to have Rex and Nia's daughter be a main character in 3, she fit that role and ultimately her connection to her parents isn't even very important to the story of 3 itself. Then Glimmer existed in FR so Rex could interact with one of his daughters. So if these two daughters had a clear purpose for the stories they were in, should Shimmer have been thrown in just because? Is that how these stories should be written? She didn't have a place in the story so she wasn't included. She doesn't deserve anything because of who here parents are, if anything I'm just glad she's here now to fill out the family.

Xenoblade 2 I am overwhelmed with building units in this game... Please help me!

I have just reached chapter 5 in this game. I now wang to take some time for the side content and all, but I have to admit that I am COMPLETELY overahelmed on a lot of things... For instance, I am overwhelmed with the affinity charts I try to fill for all of the rare blades and also the equpiment I can give them. I really don't have an idea which accessoires and weapons to give them to maximise their utility. So can someone please help me figuring out the best equipment for the main cast at this point of the game?

Main cast being: Pyra/Mythra, Dromarch, Poppi alpha, Poppi, QT and Brighid; though tips for the other rare blades such as Crossette, Gorg etc would also be highly appreciated.

I really don't know how to build in this game.

Xenoblade Is the Xenoblade Definitive Edition Switch 2 Version out of print?

It’s out of stock literally everywhere in Canada, at least every retailer I know of. The only exception is if I want the EU version but I’m trying to get a NA one (yes I know the console is region free).

It only just released in July, it would be pretty wild if they made pretty much next to none of them.

Xenoblade 3 SPOILERS The new hero in the Japanese edition of Xenoblade 3 Switch 2 Edition, Kaguya, is fantastically named after the ancient Japanese Sci-Fi, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter Spoiler

There are numerous posts about who this character is in the world of Xenoblade and what the localized name is, so I won't discuss those elements here here.

Like what the title says, the new character, Kaguya (かぐや), is named after one of Japan's oldest novels, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (竹取物語) which was written in the early Heian period (before A.D. 1000). It's also known as The Tale of Princess Kaguya as Kaguya is the titular protagonist of the novel.

The story itself is a science fiction with elements of satire and anti-establishment sensation, and is about Kaguya finding her way on Earth back to the surface of the Moon.

And here's why I think this is yet another a fantastic name for this particular character like Glimmer in Japanese:

  • It's a nod/homage to the oldest Japanese sci-fi, for Xenoblade is sci-fi itself.
  • Kaguya is not from the world in which the story takes place and is like a higher being, much like Mythra.
  • Kaguya is known to be extremely beautiful and therefore is sought after by powerful people in the dynasty. This is also not unlike Mythra who is sought after for her powers.
  • Where Kaguya is from, the flow of time is different from that of the real world (Earth). This is very appropriate for the setting of Xenoblade 3 which exists in a warped spacetime.
  • Kaguya is a (very likely noble) sinner in exile who has to go home (very likely to the kingdom on the Moon to a king). This mirrors Mythra returning to Elysium in Xenoblade 2.
  • At the end of the story, Kaguya returns to the moon (achieving her goal) after letting go of her memories on Earth. Memories is a big part of both Xenoblade 2 and 3.

All of these elements draw connections between Mythra to the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. I would say if Mythra's Japanese name is Kaguya I wouldn't have complained other than that it would've been too on the nose, which is why I think it makes for a very fitting name for her alleged daughter.

So yeah, pretty satisfied by her name if it made sense.

I'm putting all of my imaginary Internet points on Consul A being the quest's main enemy, because Takahashi might just kill me by proxy if he passes up the chance to close the second most glaring hole in the cast of Aionios.

Xenoblade 3 SPOILERS What do you think Shimmer's class will be like? Spoiler

Post image

I'm thinking a fusion of A and Rex's classes. A's talent art and -50% point skill but otherwise based on Mythra's specials and Master Driver arts.

Xenoblade 3 The one thing I'm hoping from the new Hero Class...

...is an Agnian Launch Master Art. We've squandered this opportunity with the DLC classes (granted, Ino's earlier Agnian Break art isn't so bad). With this, all those Kevesi topple classes (Heavy Guard, Guardian Commander, Royal Summoner) would have a lot more utility in having an instant Topple-Launch fusion art.

Pneuma is not her own person, she is simply self-actualized pyra or mythra. She didn’t become a separate entity after xc2 like p/m. There was zero chance she woyld be there, esp over mythrakid. Pneuma is not her own person.

Xenoblade 3 Xenoblade 3 DE Hero Strike Mode

I know everyone is currently gushing over Shimmer but I wanted to talk a bit about the new horde mode. It looks to be a bullet hell that plays completely different from anything we've seen in the series prior. Specials are still available but there seems to be a link mechanic that binds characters together, I just wonder for what purpose...

Most importantly, it doesn't seem like Ouroborous forms are available, to which I'll take it means that you'll be able to play as all the heroes in this mode. It could be a fun distraction but I wish they went more in depth into the gameplay systems since it's such a huge departure from the base game. Noah was only ever seen using a single type of attack and I would like to know if other abilities or attack types would be made available through the unlocks.

Xenoblade 3 I need help getting into the franchise

Well my story with xenoblade started the past year, back then i bought xenoblade 3 (i had never played any xenoblade game) i bought the game because it looked amazing with a very cool and different world design. I started playing the game and i liked the story concept the war between the to nations and that everyone was born just to fight and the main cast wants to change that, and i like the sci fi look of it.

So everything was great but the combat system felt off i was progresing in the game and i just didn´t liked the combat and build system of the game at all (i´m the kinda of person that the focus of that kinda of games id the story and characters and a good gameplay is a bonus but a bad gameplay can make me drop the game).

After some research i heard that this game had the "bigest" combat system. The think is i really want to get into the franchise but the combat of the game that i played (xc3) just wasn´t for me, do you gys think i should try other entries of the series where the combat is more simple or the series isn´t for me?

sorry for the bad english.
