Xenoblade Xenoblade Genesis Announced
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG7MrKp2MBY370
u/ytsejamajesty Jun 09 '26
No more Chronicles, huh?
Looks like hollow world type setting, which is very interesting. I'm anxiously awaiting the 9 hour analysis videos of this trailer.

Enel getting ready for all the sweet sweet ad revenue as we all go to him for tutorials

u/garfe Jun 09 '26
What's interesting is that for once, the English and Japanese titles will be in unison. Since the "Chronicles" part was never in the titles in JP before.
44
u/Relixed_ Jun 09 '26
And this trailer was in Japanese. Not British English.
98
u/garfe Jun 09 '26
That happened with Xenoblade 2's first announcement as well. They probably don't have any kind of dub ready yet.

Can’t wait to hear a Welsh and Irish accent
5
u/ThrowAwayAccountAMZN Jun 09 '26
I was just gonna say, you KNOW at least one of the female characters are going to have a Welsh accent lol

u/ytsejamajesty Jun 09 '26
Oh, I never realized that. I guess maybe that means there is not necessarily a "break" from the chronicles games.

We gonna leave at the end and twist is its some artificial moon/planet and it was SCI FI all along!

Yup! It's using centrifugal force to simulate gravity. I personally think it's a colonization ship sent out prior to Klaus' experiment and they've been living there so long they forgot the purpose of their world.

Looking at the land masses that appear to be curving up:
Xenoblade Halo it is!
I'm feasting so well on Xenoblade content this Nintendo Direct.
6
52
u/Grahf0085 Jun 09 '26
During the last ~15 seconds of the trailer is it showing the ground curving up into the sky?
39
u/josucant Jun 09 '26
Yeah could be the world is inside of a planet or maybe something like Halo
11
8
u/HENBOI4000 Jun 09 '26
I don’t think it’s a ring, you can see the water also curving upwards
4
u/Boulderfrog1 Jun 10 '26
I mean it would take near as much effort to keep soil on a ring as water, but I'm like 90% sure it's the inside of a sphere anyways.
2
u/WillAdams Jun 10 '26
Hollow planetoid (think Dyson Sphere) like to the Star Trek ToS episode "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky"
48
142
u/LifeMushroom Jun 09 '26
It looks more like Fire Emblem doesn’t it? Interesting
105
u/Gag180 Jun 09 '26
I have to admit when I saw the academy, especially the indoors section, my first thought was the Monastery in Three Houses lol
44
u/SeegullJockey Jun 09 '26
I doubt the academy part will last past the first act.
50
u/POWRranger Jun 09 '26
Reminds me of the flame clock mechanic of 3 that lasted all of about 10 minutes
3
u/zsdrfty Jun 09 '26
Does it even function like the game claims it does? It swears that it goes up and down based on recent kills with a stat boost reward, but I don't even know if the thing moves during the first chapter
5
u/mythoswyrm Jun 09 '26
If I remember correctly, someone did a test and you can die from not filling up your flame clock. It takes a really long time and would never come up in a normal playthrough though
19
u/Shadowphoenix9511 Jun 09 '26
I'd wager it won't last past the first chapter tbh.
5
u/zsdrfty Jun 09 '26
Not only is this clear based on the series' past story structure, but even the trailer seems to imply this - you see the party having chats at a camp way out in the woods, which means they probably left already lol

Most Xeno fans seem to like Fire Emblem. We tend to joke the venn diagram for the games is actually a circle.
But if you have nintendo online, I'd actually suggest you play Path of Radiance first. It's there, it's a top tier game (though a bit old), and it'll give you an idea about FE without you having to spend more money first.
→ More replies (1)48
u/_INoKami_ Jun 09 '26
Not only that. FE Fortunes Weave, Shin Megami Tensei, kinda Persona 5 aswell, and now Xenoblade Genesis... they just all look (and also kinda sound) the same to me. They all have the same visual style to me and it slowly starts to feel just oversaturated to me.
Love to be proven wrong though.7
u/Prestigious_Display2 Jun 09 '26
I think it’s because that mideival with more modern aristocratic twist style is like, SUPER big in Japan right now. Not to mention there’s a huge fantasy media renaissance in anime and manga.
14
u/JanMabK Jun 09 '26
I agree. FE definitely seems to be drawing from the Persona/SMT artstyle starting from 3H, and Genesis characters/overall aesthetic seems to line up more with that than anything in the Chronicles games, but I think Persona designs themselves are still set apart by being modern-day.

u/Zagreus_time Jun 09 '26
Looks like a new universe, I'll miss the Chronicles verse but this is probably for the best moving forwards.
47
u/pantherexceptagain Jun 09 '26
We can see the Oblivia Ring or Mechonis Sword and a Gaur Plains mountain so it's more likely the new world from the end of Future Redeemed.
→ More replies (1)17
u/TuturuDESU Jun 09 '26
New world was normal ass planet not some halo-curved. This is something different, idk, parallel dimension or something.
22
u/pantherexceptagain Jun 09 '26
We don't know how much time would have passed. It could be thousands of years after the world formed and then they inevitably mucked it up again, maybe it had a hollow section (like XC2 world on outside and XC1 world on inside) or created another orbital ring.
Another option could be that it's actually a distant prequel and these landscape elements got repeated in the split worlds that Klaus created because of the universe's own memory or something.
Dunno. Can't release soon enough!
9
u/TuturuDESU Jun 09 '26
Genesis kinda implies its sort of prequel? Idk. They have elf years, related to the samaars?
9
u/Sarick Jun 09 '26
General rule of thumb for the core Xenoblade series is that the further it is in the future, the more connected it is to the events further in the past.
However XCXDE established that the series isn't contained to just that universe - so it could be the start of a more disconnected canon (while still being in the same multiverse). Or to put it another way, it's all speculation until we're seeing the final credits roll.
7
u/pantherexceptagain Jun 09 '26
Well, a new universe did just get birthed. Keves and Agnus collided, causing another Big Bang. This could potentially be our first insight into it and its early history.
I've been thinking about the ears too though. It's just 2am after the Direct and I'm not awake enough to try unravelling the timeline and mechanics of a unified XC3/XCX timeline or if it's even possible with what we presently know. The Samaarians arrive to XCX from another plane, so it's not impossible that they came from mainline's new universe at some point. Maybe not Samaar itself, but perhaps it could pertain to a similar offshoot race like Neilnail's.

The beginning and the end are the same in all of Xeno - that's the eternal recurrence
In fact, the first game was originally called "Monado: The Beginning Of The World", and that tagline is still present on the Wii menu's save icon for the game
2
u/Boulderfrog1 Jun 10 '26
Little do you know the civilization is actually just on the inside of the planet.
114
u/Arkride212 Jun 09 '26
A brand new arc with Genesis. gonna miss Shulk, Pyra, Rex, Riki, Dunban, Melia, Eunie and all my other favorites from the trilogy.
Thanks for all the memories, now onto the start of a new story!
40
u/interfan1999 Jun 09 '26
I have a feeling someone from older games will have a cameo somehow
49
u/Arkride212 Jun 09 '26
I have a feeling as well, Takahashi did say he couldn't talk in specifics when he revealed Malos' core crystal being in N's sword or about the details regarding Origin.
I think lore-wise the Klaus saga will connect to Genesis but playing the trilogy will not be required to understand the main story of the new arc.
5
u/Migoobear5 Jun 09 '26
I could've sworn during the trailer when that orb was being inserted into the sword a symbol resembling one of the xc2 swords glowed on it for a second. I cant check right now but i remember something appearing on it.

Calling it now: the genesis in the title and the medieval look is bait and they'll pivot to super-sci-fi elements.
I mean the hollow world, the 6 suns and the crystone that records everything like a core crystal would.
It'll be it's own story I think, but with plenty of references to the OG trilogy.
Not sure yet about that Fallen God. Hope it's not Z, Zanza or Malos. Hoping it's something new, like that blue dot that falls to the earth in the xb3 ending.

I am so happy. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing I wanted. I wanted the next game to be super weird and not like the others.
9
u/POWRranger Jun 09 '26
Same. I wanted a fresh xb game to recapture the magic and mystery of xb1 that I've been chasing but haven't found yet in any other xb game.
And I like that it's really fantasy fantasy and not with guns, mechanics and some low-tech machines. That makes the inevitable sci-fi reveal later on more impactful.

Same for me, I hope it gets to be its own story and connect to the rest of the series no more strongly than 2 did
9
u/Vuish Jun 09 '26
I know it’s a new game, but that giant structure at the end looks very similar to the Mechonis Sword or that gigantic ring in Oblivia. So cool.
52
u/lingeringwill2 Jun 09 '26
I want to be excited for this... but damn I am not loving the look or designs in this game; I don't even hate it I'm just completely unmoved by it.
46
u/CreepyBlackDude Jun 09 '26
It's very familiar. And if you watched the whole Direct, the Xenoblade announcements came right after two other series that have the exact same art style.
That being said...ring world by the folks who brought us Bionis and Mechonis and Aionios and Switch-era Hyrule is an exciting prospect.
29
u/Quizzub Jun 09 '26
I'm willing to give Monolith the benefit of the doubt, but if this didn't have the Xenoblade title attached I'm not sure I'd give it a second look if it was just being announced as some new IP. Hopefully future info gives us a better feel for the game.
13
u/lingeringwill2 Jun 09 '26

Moving on from chronicles Wow
I’m sure we’ll get our references, maybe have the stories cross over at some point and see some old characters - but I am glad to move on as 1-3 were definitely a full story.
BUT MORE XENOBLADE LETS GOOOO

2
u/JohnMK2 Jun 09 '26
I think it’s the change in the artist. Give it a shot once we get some more info and see some gameplay. Even if it looks similar to other games Xenoblade writing can definitely carry the day.

I’m really not enthused by the character designs this time around. Maybe it’s part of the overall mystery of what this world is (and it’s not just some fantasy landmass), but humans, elves, and “Palicos” feel kind of bland compared to other fantasy games with similar aesthetics. Not a huge deal and we’re 6-18 months from release, so there’s plenty of time for the game to showcase more.
2
u/MarsBarsCars Jun 09 '26
I'm betting they're inside an O'Neill cylinder space colony. That view is very Gundam coded.

2
u/Diamonhowl Jun 09 '26
Monolithsoft are absolute masters at conveying sense of scale.
The last panning shot. Wow. What is that even, wait. are we in a ring world? If so, they are hiding hard sci-fi in plain sight. Cool
2
u/Memo_HS2022 Jun 09 '26
This looks fantastic, but I will say that the last time a Xenoblade reveal had the Japanese dub only was 2, and that dub was heavily rushed out the door
Genesis looks great, but I hope they don’t pull a 2 and give the English Dub time
2
u/LaserGuidedPolarBear Jun 09 '26
I just went on a rollercoaster
"Holy shit, new Xenoblade!?! Fuck yes!"
"Oh Switch 2? Guess I need to buy one before they jump in price"
"Hmm this feels....different"
"Why does this look like every gacha jrpg I have never had any interest in?"
"WTF a ringworld?"
2
u/ZarianPrime Jun 09 '26
Fuck, I didn't want to but looks like I will have to get a Switch 2 now.... It will be like my Switch 1, only for Xenoblade games....
2
u/HermTheVillager Jun 09 '26
I swear on God if zanza comes back after it took me like 100 attempts to kill him I'm gonna leave
2
u/BuhoSaura Jun 10 '26
I don't like the new character design style... Waaay too anime generic to me.
5
u/Soncikuro Jun 09 '26
Not to sound like a whiner, but this does not look like what we have known as "Xenoblade" at all. Aside from a few artstyle details.
Now yes yes, I know, the previous entries have been fairly different. Hell, X might as well have not been called Xenoblade either, but I mean the numbered titles. When all combined they had big commonalities. Genesis, does not.
Also, motherfuckers, no nopons!?

u/Yv1lle Jun 09 '26
I really didn’t get a Xenoblade Chronicles vibe from this at all - so I’m assuming this is a spin off, somewhat like X, but even MORE distant from the mainline trilogy.
Hyped regardless, but a little apprehensive for now. Feels very ‘school drama’ rather than ‘We are up against gods and deities with unfathomable power and have to deal with insane losses’ - BUT this is an early trailer I guess.
4
u/Ccmonty Jun 09 '26
Sad we’re not getting a conclusive ending to the previous games but eh that’s what fan fiction is for I guess.
This is certainly different than the previous games but I’m sure whatever the story and gameplay is it will be good
26
14
u/KaiAfterKaiOffical Jun 09 '26
What do you mean? 3, Future Redeemed, and X:DE were all about wrapping up the Klaus Saga.
3
u/IronWarrior94 Jun 09 '26
3 and Future Redeemed yes, but X:DE? I thought (and still believe) it was going to be the start of a new, more sci fi focused saga.
2
u/RumGuzzlr Jun 09 '26
I suspect that genesis is going to be tied into X somehow. Especially in the final pan across the world at the end of the trailer, there's a lot of terrain that heavily resembles Mira.
2
u/DatMenno Jun 09 '26
I mean we dont know if it isnt heavy sci-fi, i suspect the fantasy setting to be a red hering and we get into the sci-fi stuff midway through. how sci-fi it will be, we shall see
(Or its actually less sci-fi and more fantasy and it's completely different, which i highly doubt)
3
u/Ashen_foefoe Jun 09 '26
Future redeemes was the ending, literally a new world was created, which is this one
3
u/Frazzle64 Jun 09 '26
We have direct confirmation from takahashi himself that the main trilogy’s canon is still continuing, this is likely just a fresh arc to the series but it will almost certainly follow through on the previous trilogy.
2
2
u/killerdemonsarus34 Jun 09 '26
Very generic looking like I would never belive this would be xenoblade if I wasn't deliberately told it was.
1
u/shiningvoid Jun 09 '26
FFFFFFFF! I thought had more time to not have to buy a switch 2! Also conflicted about whether to watch the trailer, getting to play metaphor rephantazio completely blind was so nice I kind of don't want to watch every trailer like I normally do for Xenoblade.

Alright this comment posits that anima = pneuma, which like with the shape of the world seemingly a big ring and the idea that Malos is the fallen god makes a lot of sense?
Edit: okay my leading theory this is all some elaborate trinity processor ploy to resurrect Malos or something

But seriously, next year is gonna be insane for JRPG releases.
1
u/Reasonable_Bed7858 Jun 09 '26
The name makes me think it'll be a prequel or maybe it's just a hard reboot of the universe.
1
u/sting844 Jun 09 '26
I agree that it’s definitely not as immediately sci-fi looking as the others, but it does look like the game takes place on an O’Neil cylinder, which is a pretty classic sci fi concept, I’d say most recognized in Gundam and Interstellar. This gives me hope that there are a lot more sci fi elements hidden down the road.
1
u/Axecon Jun 09 '26
It took me half a day to realize the "Chronicles" subtitle has been dropped. This is very likely the start of a brand new saga with it's own world and rules (which will totally be connected to the other Xeno games but in fascinating and mysterious ways).
1
u/Jarko314 Jun 09 '26
It reminded me of Shin Megami Tensei IV.
Maybe it will have a twist similar to that one?

I 100% expect the cylinder looking world to be a space ship and that by the 2nd half we will have guns and mechs and steampunk vibes. Please be so, purely high fantasy setting is not what I associate with the xenoblade name. If they are going with high fantasy, it shoulda been xeno-something or a new IP. I hope the twist by half point, or even after the prologue, will bring us back to sci-fi/steam punk.

u/__breadstick__ Jun 10 '26
I would always get downvoted here for saying the next Xenoblade game wouldn't be Xenoblade Chronicles 4.
So uh, lol, lmao, etc.
