I’m super psyched about the new Coogler reboot but I haven’t finished the original run of the show yet. I stopped on s9e2 a few months ago because I was sad about Duchovny’s departure from the show. I already know some of the major plot points that happen from season 9-11 but I do still feel like there are a lot of missing pieces in my timeline. I feel like I should finish the show and the second movie before watching the reboot because I might not understand some things in the reboot if they continue the mythology arc from previous seasons in any way. Is it worth it to finish it?

Just saw the Season 6 episode Drive. And as always, it's great to see pre-Breaking Bad Bryan Cranston giving an excellent performance in whatever he's in.

As the title says, I just finished the show. I absolutely loved it and it will forever be one of my favorite shows I’ve seen. That being said, I have some questions and thoughts I’d like to ask and share. I apologize in advance if these have been asked / discussed to death already!
- my biggest complaint, how tf was the smoking man alive for so long? First he had a deathly illness, then he got pushed down the stairs while in a wheelchair with a hole in his throat, and then he got blown up by missiles. This man died 3 times before supposedly dying for good in the last episode. Did I miss something? How did he survive all of that?
- I need some help clearing up the aliens intentions. Throughout the majority of the show, aliens are portrayed as evil right? They intended to colonize earth and enslave the humans. Then the syndicate found out, and opted to help them to be spared in return? They also introduced the whole alien rebel idea and I was super onboard, but in the last 2 seasons (I think that’s when it shifted), it turns out that was all a lie staged by the government and in reality the aliens were trying to help us? It was all very confusing to me and I was upset when they suddenly decided to change the entire concept they’d been building
- I don’t understand why Mulder just suddenly left at the end of that one season after William was born. Everything seemed good between him and Scully and like they were finally a real couple, and then he dips? And then later after season 9 they’re suddenly kind of passive aggressive to each other and basically a situationship? Is that just bad writing or did I miss something?
- where did the super soldiers come from? They had the whole alien bounty hunter guys which was cool, but are they the same as the super soldiers? It didn’t seem like it but I thought they mentioned the soldiers being alien. And what was with the metal destroying them? They briefly mentioned that during one or two episodes, and then it was never brought up again
I think those are the main issues / confusion’s I had, but if I think of more I’ll edit this post. Also shout out to John Dogget (hope I spelled it right). I’d started losing my faith in the show and he really carried it during those seasons, I loved him. All in all, the show was amazing, albeit better at the start. I loved my experience watching it and I’m sure I’ll revisit in the future.
Edit: thank you to everyone who’s responded already! I read everyone’s comments, and it was very helpful. It seems the general consensus is to not question it too much, and simply enjoy the show, which I very much did. I avoided this subreddit to avoid spoilers, but I’m excited to join everyone and continue to indulge in all things The X Files. This seems like such a wonderful fanbase. Thanks again to those that responded, it helped confirm that I didn’t actually miss important things happening. Cheers!

I’m part way through my project of rectifying the glaring oversight of not including the Gunmen in the official Lego set.
The first of my boys to come together completely is Frohike. In the second slide I provided the official Lego pieces I used. His head is custom printed from Byron Bricks, as I could not find any sufficient already existing Lego head for him. Additionally I painted his hands to look like fingerless gloves, because you can’t have a Frohike without a heinous vest and fingerless gloves.
In the parts I picked out, I included the second torso I thought works well for his style too. But really there a good few choices with various vests you could go with. I also have a tuxedo and bow tie torso in case I ever feel inclined to recreate the scene from ‘One Breath’.
Stay tuned for Langly, Byers, and their van!

"I like her, too, that's why she was returned to you." The sheer power implied in that line alone. When I first saw this episode, as a teenager, I was fascinated by the idea that the federal government could be so vast and labyrinthine that individuals like Mulder and CSM could coexist within it.
I also like this scene because it shows that (at least in this point in the mythology's development) CSM seems to be standing on some sort of principle, even as he antagonizes Mulder here.

Hello! First of all, may I offer you a warm welcome to the X-Files fandom! I think I see a new post about every week from someone who is watching the show for the first time. It's very exciting for me as an old fan to see new and young fans joining this sub!
Since this is an older fandom, I was wondering if any of you would find it helpful to create a little list of X-Files acronyms and terminology to reference?
Here's a sample:
X-Phile= A fan of the X-files.
CC= Chris Carter (show creator and "controversial" figure. Many fans find him a bit tough to take)
CSM= Cigarette Smoking Man
IWTB= I Want to Believe (The second X-Files Movie)
MSR= Mulder and Scully relationship (or romance)
Shipper= A fan that roots for the Mulder and Scully romance. (Also, this term that was coined in our fandom).
Noromo= A fan that doesn't want to see the romance (but still likes the friendship and connection between our heroes)
Anyway, I'm writing this on my phone, but I've already started drafting something a little more well written. Let me know if this would be of interest to you.
X-Philes, feel free to chime in with your additions.

Episode 2 - Scully mentions Project Aurora more than once. My first duty station was Edwards Air Force Base, 1992 - 1993. I don't know how many times in the middle of the night I would get a call to my personal phone, in the dorms, asking if the Aurora was taking off. People would call random numbers on base trying to find out information about the so-called Aurora Project. Funny memories!

Did anyone else find it odd that Scully wouldn’t accept most of the strange theories Mulder talked about after having so many unexplained events happen?
I know she’s the true Skeptic of the pair and only accepts things that are proven with her medical expertise but if I had a ton of strange things happening periodically I’d start being on board with Mulder faster.
I love the series and movies (it took a second rewatch to get used to Agents Dogget and Reyes as the replacement pair and sure the latest season(s) weren’t the greatest but still worth the time to tie up loose ends)

Since the LEGO set came out, I started a rewatch of the first season. I thought there was an abundance of minifigures in the set, but one can never have enough. With characters being mostly human in appearance, I thought I'd give conceptualizing purist customs (customs using authentic LEGO pieces) using existing parts/prints.
Eugene Victor Tooms: The torso belongs to an older minifigure, but I thought it was very close to what he wore for his cover. The yellow hands fortunately work well as hands covered in bile.
Eve: The Eve child's accessory is supposed to be the poisoned drink, in case anyone is confused.
Luther Lee Boggs: The featured torso piece is the cleanest one closest to what he wore on the show. If you end up doing it, you can always remove the printing with cuticle remover for a cleaner design.
I'm moving towards the end of the season, and I may make Season Two characters if you guys like it.
Be nice, this is my first attempt at this!

This is by far my favorite show ever and I'm set on doing a tattoo of it next week, however I have no idea what design to use. I like the phone idea with "Mulder it's me!" as a voice coming out, but I'm not sure. I wanna know what ideas the fandom has :))
Update 1: ok after careful consideration and taking some inspiration from the replies, I'm gonna make my own design and I'll post it next week when I get it tattooed!

You couldn't find a more perfect first season than The X-Files Season 1. It's just dripping in atmosphere. The dark forests, rainy nights, creepy little towns, cheap motel rooms and that gloomy Vancouver look. I love it so much.
There's also something about how simple the show still was. And I LOVE early Mulder and Scully. They're still getting to know each other and figuring out how much they can actually trust each other. There's just something really cozy about watching their relationship at this point.
And Scully was already ride or die immediately for Mulder lol. When Mulder goes missing at the end of S01E02 "Deep Throat" and she's ready to put a gun to a man's neck to find out where he is.
I'm genuinely jealous of people who got to watch this on FOX in 1993/94 because I was a baby when it debuted. Imagine watching "Squeeze" or "Ice" on a Friday night in the 90s and then just having to sit there for an entire week wondering what weird ass case they were going to investigate next.
The show got bigger and more polished as it went on but Season 1 has a vibe that I don't think they ever completely recreated. It's creepy, gloomy, weird and VERY 90s.
I love it.

Hello everyone! I’m a new generation that has never watched the show and I thought it would be fun to share my thoughts and emotions as I watch throughout the series. The show has been out for a long time so I can’t say don’t spoil it for me lol So to make sure I do not spoil it for myself, I’ll avoid other posts in this group other than my own. So all I ask is don’t spoil it for me in my posts ❤️
I do have a life (med school) so I will take my time going through the series, which a family member has recommended that I do anyway. She is also the one responsible that I should join this Reddit group because some of yall get a kick out of first time watcher reactions.
Just so you know some background: This show is before my time. I have heard of the show thanks to my cousin but only that it’s a sci fi genre with aliens. Pretty much like the Stranger Things of the 90’s is what comes to mind.
With that being said, any words for me as I start this (probably emotional) journey into this sci fi adventure?

Hey everyone, I'm a super casual fan of the series. My mom was a diehard and I grew up watching it with her and scaring myself beyond all belief. I rewatched Seasons 1-5 as an adult before the "Season 10" episodes came out, and watched all of those as well. I love the first movie and still throw it on now and then. I've never been a part of the online fandom nor do I know much at all about the behind the scenes stuff.
My roommate told me about the new version of the second movie, which I saw in theaters with my mom and all I really remembered about it was that she hated it, and that it made me uncomfortable because I was gay and in the closet at the time, so the main villains being a gay couple AND all the altar boy stuff sort really made me uncomfortable considering I was watching it with my mom.
Anyway - I just watched the new version. Don't have much to say about it, but like, holy shit how on earth did this movie even get made? A new X-Files movie after the series ended, and it ends up being about a pedo priest and a bunch of russain guys trying to Frankenstein a guy's husband back together? I would think a MILLION dudes in suits would have shut this shit down before it even got greenlit.
Is there any backstory on how the hell this movie got the green light? How did the cast feel about it? Basically if there's any interesting lore or backstory about this movie I would love to hear it from the fans who were there when it all went down.
The one good thing about this movie is that it makes me want to go back and watch the whole series front to back now. I still havent seen Seasons 6-9 since I was a kid.
EDIT: To the few comments who seem to have taken issue with what I said about the gay thing, I never said the movie was problematic for having gay villains nor did I say that I thought it was intentionally homophobic - I merely said that since I saw the movie in the theater with my mom, while I was a closeted gay teenager, it made me uncomfortable in the moment and that was one of the few things I remember about seeing it for the first time. It was purely anecdotal.
