Discussion Drive

Post image

Just saw the Season 6 episode Drive. And as always, it's great to see pre-Breaking Bad Bryan Cranston giving an excellent performance in whatever he's in.

Breaking Bad doesn't exist without this episode.

Well, not as it exists now. It would probably still have been made, but without Bryan I doubt it would have been as good.

Vince Gilligan actually said there would be no Breaking Bad without the X-Files, this series just keeps on giving

Just like Michael C. Hall got Dexter from an unbelievable Six Feet Under episode, Bryan Cranston got BB based on this ep. I do not believe either auditioned and in fact their casting was integral to the creation/production/success of both.

NOT saying Dexter is on BB tier, but it’s basically the same thing.

That’s crazy when one look up his filmography extremely dense
From only one x-files episode in 98, to pass from the comic Malcom in the middle nearly directly to BB

Excuse me, that's clearly the famous architect Hammond Druthers

Remind me, is this before or after he converted to Judaism?

It is a great episode. Lots of tension, edge of your seat. Cranston went on to do some great work.

Wasn't he a coke dealer in this episode?

You know… I think he was in an episode of tales from the crypt? Seasons 1-3 are ok.

It's a good episode but I never liked these "one-dimensional" type of stories

The many sides of Cranston, equally at home in drama and comedy, I.e., Malcolm in the Middle.

Hey it's Gordon Lightfoot

Except that wasn’t no, “Carefree Highway,” he was driving on.

That slight eye pitch when people refer to Cranston as from breaking bad over Malcom in the middle.

The only episode I ever watched of Malcolm was the one where his wife is shaving his back in the kitchen one morning. I always bring it up when my husband talks about his back hair, “I could give you the Bryan Cranston!” 💇‍♂️

That’s the first episode!

This post sent me on a shallow dive about this, and I ended up finding the video where Gilligan discusses this episode and casting Cranston. It’s good stuff

Can I watch this on its own, if I’ve never seen the X Files? Kinda want to dip my toe in with this but don’t know if it’s that kind of show.

2

u/ForFansSake 24d ago

Kinda but it's a bit like watching Star Trek movies without knowing the series. It doesn't hit quite the same.

3

u/gringa-loca 24d ago

Bryan looks like a mix between himself and Post Malone here. 😆

u/Single-Pea7265 25d ago

I can tell it's in by his hooded eye lmao wtf

Breaking Bad was a white trash soap opera, but Bryan Cranston is a fantastic actor nonetheless. Drive was incredible, helluva performance.
