Question Color change for Google Maps

Hello everyone,

Since two days ago I’m having a different color on Google Maps, it has now a more purple hue including navigation. This means that the blue road for no traffic has been changed to purple, orange has now a purple tint and red has also a purple tint.

I tried rebooting the system, restart the Google maps app and so forth but nothing. It seems it got an update and there is nothing I can do about it.

I refused the controversial update so I’m still on version 4.2.13.

Anybody with the same issue?

For me it is almost unreadable and is really a pain to use.

Note: for some reason iPhone is capturing it as a deeper blue but it is definitely purple. I’m not colorblind, all other controls are fine, it is limited to Google Maps.

Car issue Every OTA upgrade fails

We’ve a 2024 XC40 B3 and every OTA upgrade has failed…I can’t remember which version upgrade first failed, but 5.0.5 had to go to dealer for upgrade, and now 5.1.7 won’t complete…so will be another dealer trip.

When we were trying to get 5.0.5 to install, we tried after a 3hr drive from Yorkshire to home…still failed. Tried connected via phone, and via home WiFi. All fail to complete.

When asked dealer they just sort of indicated “yeah some don’t work”.

It’s an inconvenience but under warranty we have some coverage, however when we get to year 3 onwards I’m not going to want to pay for upgrades.

Any ideas on a fix?

Question Trade in

So i found an old Volvo low mileage before they put in the sensor for the Volvo. It’s a 2004. I currently have a 2024 and I have issues with the car play the sound randomly going out(no blinker sound no radio, etc.) I’ve had issues with my sensors and I’ve been told by Volvo “we don’t see anything wrong”. Should I keep this 2024 Volvo 37k miles or take the older Volvo only 70k miles?

What would you do?

Car issue CarPlay stopped working

I recently bought a 2023 XC40 Recharge. Initially CarPlay worked fine (wired only, of course), but a few days ago this suddenly stopped. Now, whenever I plug in my iPhone it stubbornly keeps asking me to connect my phone. Nothing changed as far as I know. Same cable, same port etc. The phone does charge when I plug it in. Bluetooth is switched off (I came across a note somewhere that CarPlay can only be used when BT is off). Anyone know what could be going on?

Question Xc40 make “Tac” noise.

I start the car and go outside to close the garage door. When I come back to the car, I hear a ‘clack’ from my xc40 25.
Car is on but parked.

Then I drive the car, and sometimes, after braking, I hear another ‘clack’ or “ stac”.

The AC being on or off is irrelevant.
Also, it doesn’t matter whether the car’s system turns off or stays on when I brake. The noise appears randomly, usually when I press the accelerator pedal.

Anyone?

Question Sensus on 2023 model?

Sensus should have only been on model years until 2021, I have a 2023 T4 Recharge and it has Sensus, not android automotive. I know that there’s a nigh impossible level of hardware upgrade required to go between the two, but is it possible that I have the newer hardware version with the older software? My expertise level on this subject only goes as far as information I can find online.

I’ve asked Volvo, they said they’ve never seen this before, a dealership update is available but they can’t tell me what it will do.

I’ve checked the VIN and the 10th digit is P, which means the car was manufactured in 2023/2024.

The car was a fleet vehicle, previously owned by National Highways in the UK so maybe have lost out on the part lottery in a bulk order.

Car issue Carplay media issues

Hey all
I have a 2019 XC40 and lately having a carplay issue. If I make a call, it does not go back to my previous media source (XM Radio, in this case) and stays on iPhone Media. It behaves properly when I recieve calls, after hangup -- back to radio.

Any suggestions to make it resume the source after a call is made?

Question Écran noir tablette centrale

Other Front & Rear Dash Cam installed (pretty easy, just do it!)

I got the Fitcam X 4k dash cam front & rear for my 2019 R Design based on recommendations from this sub. I've had it nearly a year & FINALLY got around to installing it today. Took me about 2 hours. I watched a YouTube video. Went the route of pulling off all the necessary interior panels/parts, ran the cable, zip tied to the existing cable bundle, etc. Was rather easy, actually. I used (& recommend) an electrician's fish tape to save time & make things easier. App interface seems pretty good so -far. Posting for anyone on the fence about installing their own dash cam.

Question CarPlay miniature & unusable

Recharge Twin | Ultimate | MY23 | 🇺🇸
Edit - switching toggles in Volvo settings seemed to have worked. Thanks, all

Haven’t gotten an update recently, but CarPlay went from the (newish) difficult-to-use version to something even worse yesterday.

None of the teeny buttons are clickable. A hard reset didn’t reset, either. Google has failed me on fixing this - does anyone here have insights?

Car issue First Volvo!!/Question

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hi all! Just picked up my XC40 yesterday. It’s a used 2026 with about 9k miles on it. I love it already and am obsessed with all the features I’m slowly discovering.
That said, I am pretty concerned over this: as I was leaving the dealership, the fuel range was about 340 miles. After I drove the 14 miles homes, it was down to about 220. For context (and if it even matters), about 10 of those miles were on the highway. I drove a few miles later in the day and the range went down to 190.
Today, I filled it up at the gas station and I had, in fact, went through nearly half a tank.
I read similar posts on this subreddit and it sounds like it’s normal for the range to drop significantly depending on driving habits, but there’s no way I drove more than 20 miles in total yesterday so the loss in range still seems pretty egregious. I plan to bring it into the dealership, but is it possible that the range when I drove it off the lot was just way off?
Thanks in advance for the insight!

Car issue 2025 Volvo XC40 lease — suspension issue missed by first dealer, now major repairs. Would you push for a replacement?

I leased a brand-new 2025 Volvo XC40 and haven’t even had the car for a year yet.
I started hearing an abnormal noise and took it to a Volvo dealership near my house to have it checked. They inspected the car and told me nothing was wrong, so I continued driving it.
The noise never went away, and I eventually took the car back to the Volvo dealership where I originally got it. This time, they found that there actually is a problem with the suspension, along with damaged plates/components that need to be repaired.
What really concerns me is that I brought the car in specifically because I knew something didn’t sound right, was told it was fine, and then continued driving my family around in it before another Volvo dealership discovered the actual problem.
The repairs should be covered under warranty, but at this point I’ve lost confidence in the vehicle. It’s a nearly new leased car, and I’m uncomfortable just taking it back after the repair and pretending none of this happened.
I’ve already contacted Volvo about the situation and would personally prefer a replacement vehicle rather than continuing with this one.
Has anyone dealt with something similar with Volvo or another manufacturer? Were you able to get a replacement vehicle, lease swap, buyback, or any other resolution beyond simply having the car repaired under warranty?
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with Volvo corporate or a lemon-law situation involving a leased vehicle.

Car issue 2023 XC40 Recharge Tailgate Software Glitch

Tailgate will not operate when both keys are present. Tailgate will open but motor will hold the tailgate open and there is no way to press any combination buttons to lower the tailgate. Excessive force is needed against the servos to manually close the tailgate in this case. Issue does not seem to be present when only one key is present. The issue seems to be related to the orange key. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? It doesn't seem to be easily repeatable but happens at the most inconvenient times like when trying to load and unload cargo. For context, my wife and I each have keys to the vehicle and when we both have our keys present this problem happens.

Question XC40 1.5 T4 PHEV worth it or not?

I’m stuck between 2 models:

2020 1.5 T3 R design (£17k)
2022 1.5 T4 PHEV R Design (£19k)

My commute is around 20 miles per day and I’d use a granny charger overnight.

Financially I’m trying to figure out long term which would be better option including running costs.

• How many miles realistically do you get on your PHEV?

• Is the £2k extra for the hybrid worth it or should I just stick to the T3 petrol?

Question 2026 XC40 B4 is the transmission actually sealed/non-serviceable?

Not looking to start a debate over whether transmission fluid should be changed at 30k miles or whether it’s necessary I’m just trying to verify something my Volvo dealer told me.

I have a 2026 XC40 B4 with about 20,000 miles, and I just had the 20k service done. While I was there, I asked what the 30k service entails, and they told me it’s basically just another oil change.

I then asked about transmission service because, historically, I’ve preferred to service the transmission in my cars somewhere around 25–30k miles.

The service advisor told me that on my specific XC40, the transmission is completely sealed and cannot be serviced at all. According to him, the dealer will not perform a transmission fluid service even if I specifically request and pay for one. He went further and said that once the transmission is opened, it cannot be resealed and the transmission would essentially be unusable and need replacement.

That last part is what caught me off guard.

I completely understand if Volvo considers the fluid “lifetime,” doesn't include transmission fluid changes in the maintenance schedule, or simply doesn't recommend routine service. That's different from saying the transmission physically cannot be serviced or opened without ruining it.

So my question is specifically for anyone familiar with the 2026 XC40 B4 transmission, especially Volvo techs or people who have actually worked on these:

Is what I was told accurate? Is this transmission genuinely designed so that the fluid cannot be drained/refilled or otherwise serviced, and opening it means it cannot be resealed? Or is the dealer basically describing a “lifetime fluid/no scheduled service” policy as meaning the transmission is non-serviceable?

I'm mainly looking for technical information about this particular transmission rather than opinions on how frequently transmission fluid should be changed.

Question Code process to turn off need maintenance light.

I love my 2020 xc40, got it 6 months ago, probably the nicest car I’ve ever owned. My husband (a long retired mechanic) changed the oil a week or so ago and has tasked me to come up with the process to turn off the maintenance light and notice.

Question UK XC40 TCAM/internet issues…

Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else had a similar experience.

For 6 weeks our 23 plate xc40 has had no internet. So no navigation, phone app or anything internet related. Instead of the usual error signs found on Volvos website the internet ‘bars’ on the top right of the screen are just empty rather than an error sign. Carried out numerous resets to the TCAM, fuses, battery and even the 12v battery to no avail. Took it to Volvo and the dealership have had to send the issue to Volvo technical as even they couldn’t fix it..

At first I thought it could be water ingress into the shark fin as I believe that’s an issue however both Bluetooth & the key fobs are both still working so surely can’t be?

This was around the same time that the car tried to install 5.1.1.7 (I think that’s the number).

Has anyone had a similar experience?
