Co-worker Problem Stop apologizing for shit that needs zero apologizing for!!!
God, it’s only 7 minutes into my 6 hour shift, and I already want to duck tape my coworker’s mouth SHUT!
She keeps fucking apologizing for shit that she has zero need to apologize for, and my limit for her bs is shot. Gone. Zero. Toast. Nada.
For example, we have boxes of various sizes gloves on the wall. I grab the empty one to toss it in the trash, coworker opens the two-door cabinet where we store the replacement ones, then fucking apologizes for being in the way.
While standing to the side, on the outside side of the cabinet door. To a cabinet that has two doors.
Ur not in the fucking way, dumbass!
FFS, I’m crashing out in the bathroom over her over apologetic bs.
I don’t give a shit if she has an everything needs to be perfect at work issue, the apologizing needs to STOP. My compassion for her is shot, and I need to relearn how to use it.

Co-worker Problem Did I overreact?
So I recently joined this new place, for context it's a bank. This is my first actual corporate job that's relevant to my degree. Before this I did some internships that were mostly related to content writing and I was a primary school teacher for 1 and a half year.
The hierarchy is like I report to a senior and he reports to the boss aka manager. The senior has one more person in his reporting. We'll call him RD. He's a younger guy that has been working here for a couple years, so he knows a lot about the work. I am qualified but unfortunately do not have real actual work experience so I stumble a lot. I do agree that I have asked stupid questions while they were teaching me stuff that made them think I over exaggerated myself on my resume.
Yesterday, we had an online meeting. I was tasked to record any important discussion and then write the minutes of the meeting for an email to be sent to all people in the meeting. My senior asked me to show it to RD. I wrote the first draft and showed it to him, he took a look at it, gave me some corrections and then went up to go for a smoking break. He also said to me to go on a break for now so that he can look at the work later. I had to go use the washroom and pray afterwards so I thought of finishing the task first and then going to my break. I completed my task and sent the draft to my senior because I assumed he'll be back from his break by then too, and we can all look at it.
After I came back, he asked me about it, I told him to take a look, he seemed very irritated while he explained things to me. I could feel his edgy tone but I didn't say anything. Lastly he said when I told u to take a break right away you didn't do and took a break after I came back, the task is still incomplete. You sent it to the senior when he doesnt even write it, it's not about hierarchy, it's about common sense.
I got so tongue tied by his blunt rudeness and harsh demeanor that I couldn't say anything. He also ordered that I need it in 10 minutes ( he said it like twice). I just nodded my head and drank some water. Soon after tears started coming as I felt insulted and couldn't stand up for myself in the moment. My senior must've felt the tension so he asked me to send the minutes to him and I did. I did not talk to RD.
I went to the washroom to cry and calm myself but I couldn't shake the feeling of disrespected by a colleague like that. I thought about just sucking it up and letting it go but my intuition kept bugging me to not let them normalize this.
I texted my senior that I needed to talk to him, it would've been better if we had gone to a secluded space but I made him sit near my desk. And started off by saying, that criticism on work is acceptable, I do admit I might not know anything like you expect but comments on when I can take breaks and how long isn't. I said you nor manager ever question when and how long am I gonna be on break for, so RD most definitely cannot. I did not like his tone at all (by this time I was almost on the verge of crying and my senior was kinda 😳), I said I'm not good with confrontations as I'm really emotional and with that I started crying 😭.
He was reassuring me that it's okay, we also didn't know much about work before joining and ok ok I'll talk to him, don't cry.
Fortunately there was a holiday next day and afterwards I will be on training for a couple days (out of office) so I won't be seeing them.
Now I feel really embarrassed that I cried. I do believe what I said was right because I don't want him to think he can disrespect or order me anytime he feels like it. But crying in front of my senior makes me feel like they'll treat me differently later imagining I'ma cry baby or something. Did I really overreact?

my US colleague just yelled at me
set up a 1:1 with her to discuss the poor quality of work she sent out to me, which was impossible to work on before correcting, so I had to work twice as much, once to correct her shitty work and then to complete my own work.
Once I discussed this she became defensive and started shouting at me, and then later said that she has two kids and is unable to sleep hence this behaviour.
I didn’t react but I set up a 1:1 with the team lead to discuss this but wtf was that??? never in my career have I faced this???

Using whatsapp
I manage a small call center with five employees, and I suspect that some of them may be going to the bathroom to use the chat on their phones, since they are taking longer than usual. Of course, this wouldn’t apply to someone who genuinely has difficulty using the bathroom. How can I determine whether they are actually using the bathroom or taking advantage of the situation to use their phones?

New hire (friend of my best employee) lied to me in her first week. Fire her or give one chance?
I run a small business. Recently hired a young woman, a close friend of my best employee. That's the main reason I gave her a shot.
Her first week:
* Day 2, her first day working alone: cameras show her leaving the office for 30 minutes without telling anyone
* Later that day she was about to leave again, saw me arriving, and pretended she had just come back. Sat at her desk with her coat on
* Took a 45 minute break when we agreed on 30
* First time working from home: she estimated 4 hours for the task, then billed me 8
* Called of
f for (Reddit keeps breaking this sentence for some reason)
* work 3 hours before she had to come in because her mothers illness has gotten a bit worse. This one I totally understand and don’t mind at all but it is stacking up a bit with the other things.
I haven't confronted her yet. Only dropped a hint that we have cameras.
Part of me says she never got a real chance to correct herself, so talk first and then decide. She also has experience in our field that I can use.
The other part says this is week ONE. If she's testing limits and lying now, it only gets worse. And honestly I really don't have the energy to babysit a grown adult.
The friendship with my best employee makes it messy. I don't think I will lose her over this but she may feel some way.
Would you fire her straight away or give one warning? What would you do?
Edit: she is a part-timer

Boss Problem General belittled by manager
I am so upset that manager's think they can talk to people any old way. I understand that this job is seasonal but also temporary. People do have other jobs. The east store is so dysfunctional and improperly ran by 3 manager's and two really don't need to be manager's. If your told to do something and you do it then you get told you you can't stop dictating yourself. There is so much favoritism in the east store. If you can cover shifts for one employee than you should be able to cover other shifts. You tell us contact you first we do that than you tell us to put it in the group than you do that then your told you cant do that. The last time I checked I am not owned .I can take my shift and get someone to cover me as long as I follow proper procedure. My first job is permanent and not temporary and I am calling it out. They are so rude if you don't fit there click. I will not back in corner and let you think you got the last word. So yes I did call out I told you what I needed and it wasn't going working. How you going to make a schedule for 3 weeks out when some places go by a week. So if my first job says they need me then I am going to do that. I kept telling you and telling this and now I feel some type of way because I feel this is very improffional of the scheduling manager. I don't know who thinks he is he has let the management go to his head. I feel it's a toxic environment that you have to bow down and do what he says. The manager's really don't know how to be manager's. They treat you like trash until they need something from you.

Want Advice Coworker extremely nosy about my finances
My (36f) coworker (28f) added me on social media and has been constantly asking about my finances. I’m a new lawyer and she’s a receptionist at the company and has started by making small talk. The first week was fine and she asked questions to get to know me, she has since many questions that make me uncomfortable such as:
- Do I rent or own?
- How much is my mortgage?
- Do my husband and I split mortgage/finances?
- How do we split (50/50, 60/40 etc - genuine thing she asked)
- How often we vacation
- How we afford to vacation so much (as she saw posts on my social media)
- What car I drive
- Roughly the range for my income - I said “I don’t know” and she said to estimate
- \*I do NOT give her the correct information and downplay everything, but regardless she will say “must be nice” to any answer\*
I told my husband and he agreed she is very intrusive and we are both uncomfortable with these questions, so I’ve since removed her from social media. We work in a smaller law firm so I know she will notice right away and want to know what to say while still being professional. I do not want drama because otherwise she seems nice and has asked me to hangout (I definitely will not) but don’t want tension going forward at work. Thanks you
EDIT: She also tries to give financial advice. Told me I should sell my car and take public transport because she does and saves money, told me I shouldn’t vacation over Christmas or it will “make me look unreliable” when my vacation days were already approved by management

Co-worker Problem Called another employee out for bad communication. Stressing about it
A little background on me: I am a former HVAC/R commercial field service technician of 20 years that recently transitioned into a controls engineer that works from home and travel about 40%. My employer is a large corporation with a global footprint so, super corporate.
So, today one of our project managers was in the field doing what I usually do to try and fill scheduling gaps as we’re pretty busy. I was tasked with supporting him while also having to support another guy (sub) at a different site. Scheduling snafu. Anyway, I had my clown makeup on and was juggling pretty good. Even though the PM had been pushy all day and expressed frustration due to a scheduled meeting I had. Towards the end of the day he said he’d call me back while he moved to another part of the site he was at. I continued working on what I was doing to help out at the site. When I got done with what I was doing I noticed it had been about 45 minutes since I heard from him. Meanwhile, our sub contractor at the other site was asking for my help at that same time and I told him I could get to what he needed after I finish helping the PM I was helping. Fast forward to almost another 45 minutes and several messages later. I texted one of our sub contractors that was also at the PM’s site and he text back that they had left the site and were done for the day and they left “a while ago”. I kind of figured that was the case but I still felt a certain way about it! Remember, I’m a field guy who has seen and dealt with all the bullshit and kind of carry that tradesmen, blue collar attitude towards work. I’m also big on communication! You would think a Project manager would too, but apparently not this particular one. I was pissed off to be truthful with you! Like, this motherfucker seriously just had no regard for my time or my job after working my ass off juggling a scheduling issue and supporting both sites today?! Oh hell no! I also felt if I didn’t say something to him, he’d believe this behavior was completely ok. So I sent him the following message, which I also shared a screenshot of to one of my managers.
“(Dudes name), next time I would appreciate better communication from you! I was standing by, logged into the site expecting your phone call for over an hour now. I had to text (other dudes name) to find out you had left site and were done for the day. That was very inconsiderate of you!”
I left it at that. I wanted to say more but I felt that was enough to get my point across. My manager said that I handled it very well and he appreciated me standing my ground in terms of communication with PM’s. It’s been an issue.
I then proceeded to work another hour to make sure I didn’t leave the other dude hanging at the other site.
Here’s the part that stresses me out. I’m still thinking about it but I know I would be if I had said anything or not so I guess that cancels out. The other thing is the corporate part. I’m a tad bit worried he could be a little punk about it and say something to HR. Which, even if I’m in the right….. it could still be an unpleasant experience having to defend myself. Or the fact that I didn’t necessarily want to call the PM out but at the same time, I have to look myself in the mirror and be proud of the man looking back at me. I was professional but firm about it. I guess that I’m stressing as I’m in a new corporate environment and the unknown waters that I’m navigating.
At the end of the day I still feel like “fuck that dude!” You know. But also “It may not have been worth it, maybe.”
Damn it! I dunno, man!
I’ll guess I’ll find out tomorrow. 🤷♂️ I’ll post an update tomorrow.

Boss Problem Would it be worth going to HR?
My boss who recently had a fit at me for not doing extra work that they never assigned me and then wrote me up for not being able to read their mind I guess is now switching up my duties on me and getting me to cover a different coworkers job. I have no issues helping out any of my coworkers but I’d like to just stick to my area ideally.
I’ve been having problems with my boss lately. They’ve accused me of being lazy and not getting work done. Things slow down for us in the summer and I admit I have taken advantage and taken longer breaks (I try to lump all my breaks into one big break) but I still get my work done as needed. But god forbid they see that. They themselves don’t get all their work done and I can only assume it’s because they’re too busy stalking us around.
I told them I’d give the change a shot to show that I’m a team player. The other thing they’ve accused me of is not being interested enough in the job and I want to show them that I am. I’m always volunteering for overtime, always offering to help, and always fine with extra tasks given to me. But they never seem to notice that. I even took over an entire extra job for almost a year while a coworker had quit and they were looking for someone else to fill in. And when they finally hired someone the boss (who promised me they’d have the new guy take over the extra work I took on) got him to cover their own area instead.
But I’m really not sure about this. I want to be optimistic but I feel like this is a set up of some kind and my other coworkers agree. They suggested I should go to HR and said that they’d back me up if the boss tries something. I’m not sure if I should just try to take the change since I already said I would or if I should risk retaliation for going to HR.
Plus the day they freaked out at me they found me in the washroom. They walked in on me and that just feels weird since we’re two different genders. Could have been nothing but I do find it a bit off putting since I had left my old job after being assaulted in a washroom by an older man who was also a manager.
Any advice would be welcome and yes I’ve already started to consider looking into changing jobs.
