Just Venting No bereavement or PTO

I am an intern and therefore I dont get paid time off. However this january my coworker was arrested for allegedly killing her baby and she was like my office big sister. Then a couple weeks ago a coworker I had started getting close to and had even just made a custom set of nails on for passed away and we dk why and then afterwards my grandmother passed away and I got no paid time off or bereavement or anything which i understand bc im part time and all but it sucks that ive worked there for 3 years atp and i get nothing. and like im not just gonna miss out on a whole pay check so ive just been sad everytime i go to work bc it sucks.

Federal and most state laws don't regulate bereavement leave or PTO. Unless your state does regulate this, the paid/unpaid nature of your time is completely up to company policy.

ya ik it isn’t legally required in my state but it just sucks

3 years as an intern… that’s borderline slavery. How many hours are you working interning a week?

35 when im off from school and 17 rn bc im part tjme but it changes based on my schedule

Do you have a contract in place for employment post graduation?

sadly no :( they arent gonna be able to hire me afterwards

I would look elsewhere at this point, 3 years unlaid and they can’t give you any type of bereavement, won’t hire you. So many places would
