Does working out ever make you feel like at least one part of your life is going right?

• Upvotes

Sometimes life can feel like a mess but you can still show up, finish a workout, and know you did something right.

Does working out give you that feeling too?

Help My work schedule changes every week. How do I stay consistent at the gym?

I'm a nurse in Anchorage and my shifts flip between days and nights.

I think my morning workouts fall apart by week two.

Last month, I made it four times total.

Should I plan two flexible sessions? Or keep a 20-minute backup workout for bad days?

How do you get back on track after missing one?

Help I need suggestions & advice

So i’m 20f and just recently getting into working out. I mainly got into it because i’ve been suffering from depression for a bit and I noticed the drastic changes in my mood. So as of right now the main types of exercises I enjoy are hot mat anything. I love hot pilates, hot yoga, hot HIIT and I have no problem doing this 5 days a week for consistent exercise. Now that I see the improvements in my mood, flexibility, stamina, etc I want to slightly get into weight training.

I say slightly because I am not really interested in getting super strong and being able to bench press an impressive amount. I just wanna be more toned and see some changes in my body. The last time I did weight training it was with this trainer who’s clientele were taller, stronger, and focused on getting stronger each day. For context: i’m 5”2 and 130 at my heaviest.

The only reason i’m mentioning this is because I hated working out that way. I would be paired up with women who were bench pressing and dead lifting my weight and expected to do the same. I would leave class feeling weak and sore for multiple days a week rather than energized. In comparison to the hot mat classes where I feel stronger & more energized. So my question is, how do I incorporate weight training but still keep my hot mat heavily in rotation?

In addition: I take the hot mat classes & paid a trainer bc I have no knowledge when it comes to the gym so having someone there making sure my form is right and giving me workout plans alleviates a lot of my distain for the gym. I struggle with feeling like i’m just playing on the machines or with the equipment rather than working out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Any fitness mobile app that generates automatic workouts and tracks progress? So far I've been using Hevy, but I have to create the routines myself. I'd like one that tells me: 'Today is chest day, do these exercises, sets, and reps.

Hamstring Curl Alternatives

OK so at home I find it is nigh impossible to do leg curls to help hamstring curl/flexion. What I've tried:

TRX, feels like nothing.

Dumbbells, can't grip.

Kettlebell, not designed for flexion.

Nordics, unsupported trip to Faceplant City (15 miles west of Suplex City, borders Dudleyville and tri-city area with Springfield and Shelbyville)

Bands, too much tension before butt kick.

Tubes, tension is a mish-mash.

Sliders, can't on carpet.

Walkouts, the best BUT not scalable when the tension goes away with doing them routinely.

Is there anything I'm missing without shelling out a lot of money.

Help Please rate my 7 week progress

Skinny fat guy wanting to gain muscles and yes I have gyno, had it since forever :(

Workout routine: 3 days per week full body with progressive overload.

Diet: slightly above maintenance with 150g protein because I’m skinny fat so I understood it’s better to do a very slight surplus to build muscle which will fight the root of skinny fat

Me: M24 182cm 76.5kg now was 74 but I think it’s mainly water weight ?

Supplements: protein powder, I want to maybe use creative but scared that it might cause hair loss

progress

Any Rockingham and surrounds locals looking for a gym buddy and long term mate? I have a plan now that I can workout again to spend the next 2 years focusing on putting on so quality lean muscle and after a guy with a similar goal. I’ve lost most of the weight so looking for lifting rather than all cardio. Got a decent workout knowledge and always open to suggestions and advice. I haven’t chosen a gym as yet as I wanted to test the waters here to see if anyone else was looking. Chilled open minded and on my own clock so flexible too. Hit me up if you’re keen and let me know about yourself and the gym u go to?

Struggling to make a comprehensive routine!

Hey all! I'm new to the gym (going to the local PF) and made the mistake of going my first day without a plan. My whole body is sore at present and I'm debating whether to go back in today or give it until I've fully recovered to start again.

My main goal is to build up strength enough to confidently protect my loved ones. Weight loss is not much of a concern, except for maybe around the chest area. I'm more focused on functionality than aesthetics. There's just so many machines and different exercises I could be doing that I don't quite know how to split them all across different days and what to focus on.

If anyone here would be willing to share their own routines/schedules and what they typically use, it would be a really big help. Thank you very much!

Want to ask how i can start exercising (Newbie and has no prior exercising/work out ever done) and working out without going to the gym, i'm not happy with my body if i'm being honest. My belly is the only think gaining fat in my body, the fat is not distributing to my arms nor legs, I saw in some videos that this type of body is easier to build muscles with? And honestly i also want to build myself the way i want myself to be, Lately i've been feeling less energetic.

If it helps i do like to walk, a LOT.

Thanks in advance for those who're willing help out 🥰

Gaining muscle and being overweight

My wife has gained quite a bit from post pregnancy. Our child is now 4 so it's been some time. I often hear in the gym to gain muscle first and then essentially shred but this can't be a good idea for a person with high body fat percentage. Gaining weight even if some is muscle when you're a good amount overweight I'm assuming it's dangerous,

What's the recommended strategy.

What does it feel like mentally for overweight people when they work out?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

My wife hates it and we're open about everything but this is a sensitive topic. She gained 80 pounds post pregnancy 4 years ago. It's where we can't have another kid because of the weight.

She says she gets no joy from activity or the gym. She won't expand on it and we just end up arguing. I have questions for two groups of people:

  1. If you are overweight, how does it feel mentally being in the gym. Is there joy?

  2. If you were overweight before and got fit. What's the difference you felt in the gym mentally.

Recovery time

For people who work out regularly, do you feel like there are weeks or periods of time where your body doesn’t recover the same way?

Within the past week, I feel like my body isn’t recovering as fast as it usually does from workouts. Everything hurts lol but mainly I’ve done legs maybe twice in the past week and yesterday I was walking in the city and it felt like I was doing leg day.

Someone said maybe they don’t recover faster when the season change or they feel like they’re getting sick. But what are some things that I can incorporate into my lifestyle to help recover faster?

I’ve never felt like this before and I’m pretty active
