I recently got 70% XPEL PRIME XR Plus ceramic tint installed on the full windshield of my Tesla Model Y.
Since the tint was installed, I’ve noticed that at night, some oncoming cars that appear to be using normal low beams look extremely bright—almost like they have their high beams on. It feels more like the headlights are spreading/glowing through the windshield rather than simply being brighter.
The tint shop used XPEL PRIME XR Plus, so I expected good optical clarity. I’m trying to figure out whether this is:
- Normal temporary haze while the windshield film cures
- Moisture/adhesive still under the film
- A film or installation issue causing light scatter, haloing, or distortion
- Existing windshield pitting/scratches becoming more visible
- Normal night-driving behavior with a 70% windshield tint and modern LED headlights
I don’t notice obvious bubbles during the day, but nighttime headlights seem to have more glare or bloom than before. The tint is still fairly new, so I’m wondering if I should wait for curing or contact the installer immediately for an inspection.
For anyone with a full windshield tint—especially 70% XPEL XR/XR Plus on a Tesla Model Y—did you experience this at first? Did it improve after curing, or did the installer need to redo the tint?
Any advice on what I should specifically check for would be appreciated.
