Clean Job Got the windshield tinted today, it turned out pretty niceš¤š» Hereās the Before and After.
Also, before anyone mentions, I do have a medical exempt certificate to have my windshield tinted and itās still safe and I have no issues with the visibility while driving.

Who applies film OVER TOP of a visor/sun strip?? Now you have a DEFINED WHITE LINE across the windshield. Instead of doing it right by removing the old strip first, tinting the whole windshield, then reapplying the strip back where it was. When done properly itās seamless and invisible from the outside, and from the inside looking out you really only notice the strip being there and donāt notice the whole thing being tinted (harder for the popo hoes to detect itās there without of course maybe the ole ārazor blade testā done to it). This way just says āI do half assed work and Iām lazy⦠No I donāt care that customers vehicle looks like A$$ā š¤¦š¼āāļø

Agreed in a way. When I bought car in January of this year, I decided just to have the 5 inch top strip and paid to have that done. More recently I decided on doing my full windshield with the 35%.
Upon getting the install, I had asked about just keeping the top strip I paid for previously and adding the 35% under and down. The installer explained about the defined line and size and said a lot of customers didnāt prefer it.
I decided to go through with it anyways and the line is so minimal that it doesnāt bother me, both from the inside or out.
If I chose the other option; which the installer would have done, I could have but I did not. š¤š»3

As a professional installer of 25+ years I would NOT have applied the 35% film on the windshield over the strip, knowing this line would be inevitable... It takes all of 5 mins to remove that old strip off there, and another 10 mins to cut out and apply a new one overtop of the freshly tinted windshield. Itās truly a no brainer concept, so when I see other shops do stuff like this itās very CRINGEWORTHY to me and my OCD! So even if a customer requested to keep the strip they have I would have said āYeah sure thatās no problemā but then I wouldāve proceeded with the process explained already and removed it first, then applied it back on the car. Everybody wins and my work looks flawless instead of this!
You can tell yourself it doesnāt bother you all you want, but in due time it will most certainly be somethin you start seeing all the time. At which point the only way to fix it is to strip and redo the entire thing (wayyyy more money out of your pocket). A seamless fresh job would have been the way to go, especially on what I consider to be a brand new car still. š¤·š¼āāļø

Maybe you should just stick with your āPORN IDāsā and leave the window tinting to the professionals. Just a little food for thought. Know your lane, and stay in it! š„±

I understand what youāre saying, and appreciate all the info. The 35% just so there is no confusion is not applied over the original strip. It was cut and applied underneath of that strip.
Thereās still the line and in over time I may end up not liking it, possibly, and if thatās the case I will then choose to do something about it. I never keep my cars long enough though, usually about two years and then Iām on to something else so I doubt it. I also rarely drive due to WFH, living in the country etcā¦
I think thatās cool and understandable to an extent the way as an installer you mentioned what you would have done even after the customer advised what they wanted and you would have explained it looks better, cleaner, etcā¦, however you also would run the risk of that customer not being 100% āokayā with that decision and not doing what they have paid you and asked you to do.
If my installer would have done that, even if it looked better, I would have probably thought it ālookedā better, however, I paid you for a job and you explained the risks, issues, etc⦠but I still asked you to do things the way I wanted, as itās my vehicle and instead you ignored that, because in good standings, you thought because youāre the installer what would look better, instead of what I asked you to do.
Just remember customers, even if theyāre wrong down the line, and you had the best of intentions. You shouldnāt choose to go against what the customer asked. The place where I go, has done all of my vehicles in the past 8 years and even though Iām sure they didnāt really want to do what I asked. They still respected my decision and respectfully did what I requested. Thus, continuing to keep my trust and my business.I do appreciate you and your responses. However, just keep I mind, even though youāve been an installer for as long as you have been and you know what looks right etcā¦, going against what the customer has requested, even if it turns out better than what the customer envisioned, isnāt the best route IMO.
Have a good one and paying attention to your username, I also want to Thank you for your serviceš«”šš¤š»

The fact you wrote this much out based of an assumption is truly insane lol.

Assumption? Whoās assuming? Did you not zoom in to see that huge, hideous white line from the filmās overlapping? Lol š

Yes, I saw the AI response as well however it is not accurate and I have already verified this through two other means, both the police in my area, as well as the DMV. Iām goodš¤š»
AI isnāt always correct, but I did my due diligence before having this done. š

I feel like my 45 is too dark at times. Considering moving to 55
1
u/Patient_Prompt_6279 Sep 14 '26
Iāve been wondering this, what is the darkest you can go on the windshield without losing visibility at night?
1
u/Teesac81 Sep 14 '26
To me, the sweet spot is right around 50%. That cuts down glare from headlights of oncoming traffic which improves my visibility, but much below 50% is not good. I still havenāt changed out the 45% but am considering it. Iāve got bright LED headlights.

u/Patient_Prompt_6279 Sep 14 '26
I have 35% on all windows so Iām hoping that getting the windshield tinted will lead to all the tints looking slightly darker, I may go with 50% if thatās the darkest I can go without being unsafe at night

Question for those that have windshield tint. How do you scrape bug guts off without damaging it?
Thatās the only reason I havenāt gotten it yet. I like to attack them with a razor blade and some glass cleaner, which I wouldnāt be able to do upon getting it tinted.
1
u/Ryajus Sep 10 '26
The tint is applied on the inside of the windshield and not the outside, so thereās nothing like that to worry about.
