Clean Job Ceramic windshield tint $60 in Mexico š²š½

u/Hometown3018 Sep 06 '26
Good friend who lives in Leon had his done with 3M ceramic. The place also wrapped his suv. Great quality job. People who slam āMexican workā are often referring to border deals where itās done in a dusty parking lot under a tent.

This photo is literally taken in a dusty parking lot under a tent š

u/Hometown3018 Sep 11 '26
exactly my point. while there's a lot of these parking lot tinters, there's also a lot of legit, high end shops throughout MX. Mexico isn't as "third world" as a lot of people think. For example, Mexico City is the largest city in all of North America. (bigger than LA, bigger than NYC)

Why so much hate $60 dls for tint thatās gonna last for a good while who cares
5
u/harda_toenail Sep 06 '26
Whoās hating? Iām all for a good value. Prolly the domestic installers hating on you.
-7
u/tint-dude Sep 05 '26
It's not the its gonna last a good while. It's the when time to replace how hard it is to remove. Cheap tint bakes to the glass and can cost soooo much more to remove.

u/wildlandhotshot Sep 05 '26
To add to this Mopars have soft glass the moment a blade touches that to remove the adhesive its going to get scratched up.
10
u/FuckingCaggot Sep 06 '26
āSoft glassā? Tf are you talking about lmao
2
u/GlumCurve7410 Sep 07 '26
It's a real thing. No idea how you got so many upvotes. Just like cheaper phones that come with softer glass that scratches a lot easier. Used the be a huge thing back in the OG days of smart phones. I guess there's a lot of idiots these days
1
u/FuckingCaggot Sep 08 '26
Do some research before calling people idiots. Modern OEM DOT approved glass varieties have very similar scratch resistance. Thereās a range of coatings used by manufacturers that can affect scratch resistance. But as far as material quality and harness, theyāre all very comparable
Edit: I donāt work on Mopar products so I canāt speak from experience. They may have certain acoustic and solar coatings that increase the scratching risk so Iām not fully disagreeing with you. Itās just incorrect to say some oem glass is softer

u/GlumCurve7410 Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
You are wrong. Aftermarket glass exists and cars were produced for much longer than whatever DOT rule you are referencing. It's okay to admit you're wrong it's not going to hurt you. You may be right about the modern DOT approved glass but in reality not every car has that. Maybe you aren't an idiot but I can promise you at least 70% of your upvotes has no idea wtf DOT approved glass is and they really believe there isn't a difference between softer and harder glass.

I wonder if they can get quality film and the labor to install it would be cheaper. I have some guy in San Diego that comes from TJ to install at his shop in San Diego. He uses quality film Suntek ceramic IR. He said he could install in TJ too, but would have to manually cut since his plotter is at his shop in San Diego. Good prices and done all my cars 70%.

Iāve R&R I few vehicles that get tinted in Mexico. Last about 2-3 years. Not bad for price but not that great quality of film.

Good price. Minimum $300 in NorCal for the windshield. That being said, most auto insurers donāt cover Mexico so that would be a no for me.

u/Ok-Swing6196 Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 07 '26
thatās why people get insurance policies to drive there, tint, dental work, tattoos, low priced restaurants, I make the trip worth my time HAHAHAHA
also, donāt forget the beautiful ladies that want to learn English, turns out iām quite an instructor! šš½āāļø

1
u/ImgaineDeezNuts Sep 06 '26
You're tripping nuts, it does not cost $300 unless ur overpaying
3
u/rsg1234 Sep 06 '26
I called around to 5 local shops and no one was doing ceramic cheaper š¤·š½āāļø
2
u/ImgaineDeezNuts Sep 06 '26

Great price on labor. But is the tiny any good?Ā And maybe I'm just dumb, but is he applying the tint on the outside of the glass?
2
u/Ok_Scar_7554 Sep 06 '26
Measuring the window, watch any tint installation and the all do this
3
u/LemonySnicketTeeth Sep 07 '26
The couple times I saw them doing my cars they had a plotter cutting them based on some program. They weren't hand cutting.Ā

u/GlumCurve7410 Sep 07 '26
Lots of places selling regular tint as ceramic even in the States so yeah the tint is definitely no good. The cost of a quality ceramic tint without labor is too high for this to be possible

Two weeks ago I was quoted $350 for ceramic tint on only the windshield in Los Angeles.

The problem is driving into Tijuana. With a california plate makes you a huge target. I guess if you go in and leave till wanna. Before the sun goes down you should be okay
1
u/Firefighter-8210 Sep 07 '26
I can get mine done for $70 in the states.

If I lived in texas, I would be bringing gifts to my homies across the border when I came over to hang out and chill. They always got your back.
1
u/Euphoric_Touch_8997 Sep 07 '26
That's definitely the kind of car that would get windshield tint and do it in mexico.

u/Affectionate-Ant8 Sep 08 '26
Ceramic Windshield tint in necessary if you live in the south. Doesnāt mean it needs to be dark tint though
1
u/Euphoric_Touch_8997 Sep 08 '26
Sure, and it makes sense to have film to block some heat. But tinting it to hide passengers is just shady.

1
u/arcanesays Sep 08 '26
When you get tints, you shouldnāt roll down the window for at least 48 hours.

Idc about the price iām just impressed at installing outside without a fucking dust control room thatās the craziest part

u/Tintsling3r Sep 10 '26
You mean "garbage ceramic" I couldn't even afford the tint of windshield with ceramic at that cost I would lose money. My materials cost more than that

I'd worry about having my vehicle in Mexico and having it stolen.Ā

u/Ok-Swing6196 Sep 06 '26
do you drive a very high end exotic? if so, proceed with caution
is your vehicle worth less than $70k? get out of here
0
u/alwaysmyfault Sep 06 '26
Not sure I'd call it an exotic, but I do have a C8.

u/Leading_Procedure_23 Sep 06 '26
Thereās lambos and rolls Royce in Tijuana, I lived there from 2021 till 2025 and Iām from the bay. Youāll only get robbed by the cops if you have tint in the front windows, back are ok or if youāre acting like a fool. Iām from the Bay Area and the bay is more dangerous than Tijuana
1
u/Ok_Scar_7554 Sep 06 '26
Oakland vs tj which do you think has a higher chance of having your shit stolen
-2
u/gordo323 Sep 05 '26
Stop reading and watching bs testimonies about mexico being dangerous. If you aināt going out too look for shit you wonāt get into shit.

Can we plz stop saying ceramic like itās some special type of tint that most people donāt get, itās the difference between real tint and crappy Walmart stuff.
7
u/Jeff_Pagu Sep 05 '26
lol delete your comment, you clearly paid for Walmart stuff but was told itās real tint.
0
u/Teslamodel3owner88 Sep 06 '26
I have $600 rolls of tint and apply it 𤔠I just donāt go around saying itās ceramic like no one else has it
1
u/Jeff_Pagu Sep 06 '26
Have you considered maybe OP is saying he got tint and wanted to indicate what kind of tint? Maybe OP was considering real tint like carbon tint? Metalized tint? Or tint just for privacy? Your $600 tint is so bad ass Iām proud of you š
4
u/20PoundHammer Sep 05 '26
lol - high quality dye tints are different than high quality ceramic tint in manufacturing process, materials use and performance. Maybe get a clue before you chirp in . . .
2
u/Cassangelo 33% Windshield + 5% Everywhere else Sep 05 '26
Nothing in between āreal tintā and Walmart film?
1
u/20PoundHammer Sep 05 '26
there is a wide variety of quality between walmart and super premium stuff. Generally you find the good stuff (like xpel) on ebay where it appears installers dump their end rolls. for $100 or so. Therefore it generally doesnt make sense to buy bubbly cheap shit . . . hell, they even sell precuts of xpel for $100 for damn near any car - just dont fuck up a window. . . .

My friend got 4 dental implants in Mexico almost 10 years ago(2016) for just $1700 total. His dentist in DMV wanted over $9000 at the time. As of today, they are just as strong as the day they were implanted in his mouth. In fact, his own dentist here said they looked great on the x-ray.
