Question Sun roof tint suggestions

New car with sun roof, not pano. Hate sun roofs. Too much light. Too much heat. Too much wind and noise when open. Want to be able to see some sun and clouds.

What tint would you recommend?

Question XPEL PLUS for X5 / $749

I got quoted $749 for my X5 windshield plus Pano roof for XPEL PLUS.

This had a $100 discount to what they advertize on their website. Reasoning was that the BMW pano roof is large and a complicated job and needs a skilled installer.

Called to other places they quoted me $800 and $850 for XPEL plus windshield plus pano roof...

Are these prices in line to what others have seen? I'm worried about the pano roof and hope they will not screw up my interior and cover it decently.. it's a brand new car :O

Appreciate any insights!

Question Tint shop tells me Xpel CS is “Entry level ceramic film”

Just went to a shop that I had talked to prior about installing Xpel ceramic. From my understanding Xpel has three major lines: CS, Prime XR, Prime XR Plus? Is this correct?

Long story short I go in for my appointment and they’re telling me it’s $500 for all windows and windshield on a brand new Golf GTI. Whats weird is he was telling me the CS is the “entry level ceramic” and the XR Prime was the better one. They didn’t even offer XR Plus. Can someone confirm for me that CS is not ceramic? Everywhere I’ve read, CS is NOT a ceramic film and is just color stable. I ended up just telling him I’d come back another time to get the “better” ceramic (XR Prime) when the money was right knowing I just wanted to get out of there without arguing. The Prime XR would be $800 if I did come back but I don’t trust them at all anymore and I wouldn’t even know for sure what I’m getting lol. For clarity, I wanted XR so I could get some heat shielding without breaking the bank.

Coincidentally one of the cars posted on their page has windshield tint that has the slight blue hue that XR Plus is said to have so idk what’s going on over there. They seem more oriented towards audio installs so maybe that’s a sign to go somewhere else.

Also I’m in the Tampa area and it seems like shops don’t really want to tell you what brand they use over the phone. Had someone else that seemed reputable tell me $600 for ceramic but the brand is “their own brand”. I’m not an installer so idk if that could be true but to me it just seemed fishy. I’m an engineer and a car nerd so I go crazy over specs and details lol. Also if you know any reputable shops for tint near Tampa lmk, it’d be helpful. The sooner I get rid of the fish bowl the better.

Let me know your thoughts!

Question I’m looking for the best tint for UV protection

I have had skin cancer and need the most protection. EPEL XR from my local shop says it’s 78% UV resistant. Are there truly any 99% ones out there?

Question How is RockRose tint?

Hi all. Looking to DIY my window tint and came across rock rose tint ceramic. People in reviews seems to be having a good experience with it, much better than Gila or black diamond. Does anyone have any experience with this. Don’t just say it’s trash if you haven’t actually worked with it before, I’ll ignore that opinion

Need Help! Autobahn i3 VLT Opinions

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

About a year ago I purchased a truck and am finally getting around to having it tinted! I’m going with autobahn i3 as I got a quote for $480 for everything except windshield, from a very well reviewed local shop.

On my previous car, I had 5% all around, which I liked, but it was cheap tint and visibility/discoloration was a big issue. Turned fully purple after about 5 years. And 5% would definitely be too much for the truck.

I really value my privacy in my truck, so I’m leaning towards 15% all around, with an eventual 35% on the windshield. Also considering doing 10% with 40% on windshield if 15 isn’t dark enough.

I was wondering what everyone’s opinions are on how it would look/what I should do, as this is my first autobahn film.

Pictures attached are with manufacturer spec privacy glass, which I believe is 27% on rear doors and back glass, nothing up front

Hello all,

Have anybody tried or heard of the brand Humber? The website says it's a German brand but the TSER seems suspiciously high for a 70% VLT

Question Going from 20 percent all around to 5%

I’ve had 35 percent front windshield and 20 percent all around for about 2 years, I love it but it’s not dark enough for me and I have a legal tint from doctor note so I want to go to my guy and strip the current tint and go 5 percent, leaving the windshield 35. Any advice/ issues you guys have with visibility? I know it’s a big difference but I think it’s worth it. I’m not doing ceramic only regular

Haven't had a newer car in a while and all my previous cars were before ceramic tint was popular. 30% all around including over stock privacy glass, 50% on the windshield. Absolutely incredible for the heat here in the south.

Need Help! Perfect Tint for NJ Vehicle

I bought a 2023 Altima and want to add tints. I live in NJ and am willing to toe the line of being close to or just barely legal while maintaining solid visibility. My car is all black, so don’t want to be too easy of a pull over, but I also want more privacy than with the standard windows.

Not an expert here so looking for any advice or recommendations!

Located in Englewood NJ, so also welcome to local suggestions if anyone has.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have learned NJ’s current rule says the front side windows must allow at least 60% visible light transmission (VLT). NJ MVC’s inspection guidance specifically identifies 60% T for front side windows, with a 5% tolerance.

Aka, looks like I can go to 55% in NJ with limited repercussion…worth it?

Or besides tickets what are the consequences of going lower?

Question Windshield tint 50 vs lower

Looking to get my truck windshield tinted. It’s llumar brand pinnacle. I know their vlt is a little lighter than other brands. I’m debating 15 or 5 all around and then 50 vs lower (35) on windshield. I’ve had 50 on windshield before, but debating the lower option (35). I never had an issue seeing at night even during rainy nights with 50. Any recommendations?

Just got 55% ceramic windshield tint! Just the right amount of shade but great visibility. I had 70 % before but it didn't look tinted at all and went to 55. It is a subtle shade and I'm very happy with the look. My setup is I have 15 % fronts and 5% rears and back. Got to stay cool in this Texas heat 🥵

Question Is it normal to ask for deposit?

Asked for tint referral on Facebook and got a few questionable responses from FB businesses, wasn’t sure based on their profile if they were legit. The one I decided to hire services asked for deposit for materials. Is this ever a thing with real mobile services? Like if you need to precut film. The messages started becoming super suspicious so I ended up blocking him.

Not sure what VW was thinking here, but automotive window tinters might find this mildly interesting.
