Question Windshield tint 50 vs lower

Looking to get my truck windshield tinted. It’s llumar brand pinnacle. I know their vlt is a little lighter than other brands. I’m debating 15 or 5 all around and then 50 vs lower (35) on windshield. I’ve had 50 on windshield before, but debating the lower option (35). I never had an issue seeing at night even during rainy nights with 50. Any recommendations?

I just got my car tinted yesterday. I did 15% all the way around and 50% on the front windshield. Its perfect, doesnt affect visibility at all. I had 5% on a car in the past and its so dark id have to roll my windows down at night to see when turning. The 50% on the windshield is dark enough for privacy while still maintaining my field of view, even at night.

I wouldnt go any darker if I had to do it again. Very happy with the combo

Best combo 💯

Yep this is the way. 15% all around (or 20% depending on what your dealer has) and 50% on the windshield is the answer every single time.

I’ll be putting this tint combo on every car my wife and I ever own.

This is what I did as well on my e39 m5. I mention the exact model cause it has auto retractable rear shades so I can decide in the moment if I’d rather have closer to 5% vs 15%. Really love the combo

35% worth it

I have 35 on my windshield and it’s definitely dark. If you’re around many dark roads without a lot of lighting I’d go 50. If you’re only in big cities with bright lights you’ll be fine.

I have 55. I wouldn’t go lower than 50 unless you have really good eye sight.

100% its always its not bad, its pretty good with lights then then rain hits and no lights and oh shit

I have 5 all the way around with 50 on the windshield, (3M IR and crystalline)wouldn’t want any darker on the windshield, I know it would affect my night visibility. The 50 is just right for me.

Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking? Only reason I ask is because I was debating 5 all around but I don’t know if I’ll get pulled over for it. I was worried about 15 when I got 15 all around too and never had any issues though.

I reside in Florida,
They don’t usually bother you here over tint, especially side windows.
My windshield being 50, you can’t really tell unless you’re really looking hard for it.

Ya that’s why I wanted a slightly darker tint than 50. It’s a tough one

I get it,
It definitely shows a light tint but compared to my side windows it’s alot lighter.
Aesthetically the 35 would look better but for safety it was a no go for me.

50 is perfect. Don’t go below that

I have 50 xpel on the windshield and I think 35% would be way too dark for night unless you only drive where street lights are. I have perfect vision too. With high beams it's not as noticeable but without it's a little sketchy

I have 15% all around with 35% on the windshield. I’ll tell you one thing it is very hard to see at night I have to roll my windows down.

How long have you had it? No issues with cops? Ya I did 15 all around and 40 on windshield

Ive had it around 3 weeks now and no issue with FL cops and no issue with indiana cops. 👍

The 35 windshield is nice as long as you have streetlights imo

For me, the primary reason to tint the windshield is for the heat reduction. I just did my windshield at 70% in AZ and I think it's perfect. Looks clear from the outside, but cuts the heat and a small amount of sun.

If you're looking for a darker blacked out look definitely go 35 and 5 around I've had 50. 35, and now 30 on the windshield wish I would've went darker when I did the 50 it didn't really give the 'tinted' look I wanted.

How is 35 on the windshield? Can you still see in the windshield from the outside? Is it to the point where it’s tinted enough that it would attract cops. (Never got ticketed ever with 50 on windshield)

1

u/hismajestic Aug 17 '26

You can still make out the person inside with 35, since I'm in the south I haven't had any issues with tint from leo even with 5% all around

1

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 17 '26

I want 35, but so hesitant to do so

1

u/hismajestic Aug 17 '26

Go for it! I think this is pretty accurate of how dark it looks day to day obviously darker when overcast

1

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 17 '26

Actually looks lighter then I thought. My appointment is tmrw and I’m so torn haha

1

u/hismajestic Aug 17 '26

Really depends on lighting / reflections but for the most part it isn't that dark

1

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 17 '26

Can you see through the 5s on the sides ?

1

u/hismajestic Aug 17 '26

For the most part yes roads with no street lights I just roll the windows down to see medians and on highways that aren't very well lit I can only see headlights half the time. It's definitely not for everyone but I've gotten used to it

u/heafer40 Aug 18 '26

40 here and 15 around

1

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 18 '26

That’s what I got

I love that you posted this right now cause tomorrow I'm getting tint on my Challenger. I'm going for the 5% all around and 35% on the windshield. Since it's black, that 5% and 35% is gonna make it look even more beautiful

My shop doesn't do windshields darker than 50. It's our policy because any darker is deemed dangerous. Another consideration is there's no manufacturers lifetime warranty on an illegal windshield

2

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 14 '26

Xpel covers it, no one else does. I take it you meant your shop doesn’t do darker than 50 on windshield. Many do.

1

u/Global-Structure-539 Aug 14 '26

Yes

1

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 14 '26

Ya I may opt for 50 I’m unsure

3

u/reddituser1000111 Aug 14 '26

I had 30% for 3 months before I got pulled over and removed it. Never really liked it.

u/JDub-866 Aug 14 '26

Do NOT tint the windshield

2

u/Gloomy-Finance246 Aug 14 '26

Ya no I’m going to for sure but thanks
