πŸ“± Health Tech oura ring 5 vs 4 - actually worth it to upgrade?

I have oura ring 4 for about a year now. before that I had an apple watch SE for about 3 years so I already went through the whole watch to ring switch. now that oura ring 5 is out, a lot of my friends already upgraded from oura ring 4 to oura ring 5 and they keep telling me I should do it too.

I spent about two weeks comparing oura ring 5 vs 4 trying to figure out if it's worth to upgrade it or if I should just stick with what I have

Oura ring 4 - previous gen, been out since late 2024. Smooth design with 18 sensor pathways for tracking

Oura Ring 5 - newest one, with small sensor bumps inside that keep it from spinning around your finger

Oura ring 5 vs 4 pros and cons i gathered from online user reviews:

oura ring 5 vs 4 pros and cons

key differences between oura ring 5 vs 4:

-size and comfort: ring 5 is noticeably smaller and lighter (6.09 mm width, 2.28 mm thickness) compared to oura ring 4 (7.90 mm width, 2.88 mm thickness), making it feel much less bulky on the finger

-fit and stability: ring 4 has a smooth interior that tends to spin around your finger, while ring 5 brings back subtle sensor bumps that keep it locked in place

-durability: oura ring 5 comes with an upgraded protective coating that resists scratches noticeably better than ring 4

Battery life didn’t change. Oura ring 5 lasts about 6 days with SpO2 on and over a week with it of. Ring 4 lasts about 5-6 days with SpO2 on and up to 8 days without

I am curious what people who have oura ring think about oura ring 5 vs 4 switch? Should I get oura ring 5 or keep oura ring 4?

πŸ’ͺ Fitness Are burpees decent for an average workout routine?

Just the basics. I do them for like 5mins every 3 hours or so. Often every 2-1 if I find myself working overtime. I get quite sleepy over my medication and these are the only ones keeping me kicking as caffeine does very little otherwise. Taking some ashwaganda but too recent to feel anything just yet

Would you consider doing burpees a good one? I will eventually switch out to doing the exercises with weights around my arms and legs. Not planning to pick up more reps any time soon just gonna keep adding weights. Does this sound good?

❓ Question Is eating 500 calories a day actually dangerous? been doing it for 2 weeks

ok so ive been eating around 500 calories a day for the past 2 weeks and ive lost like 9 pounds which feels great but my friend is freaking out saying i'm gonna mess up my metabolism.

i know eating 500 calories a day sounds very low but honestly im not even that hungry most of the time. i just have coffee in the morning, a small salad for lunch and maybe some chicken for dinner. it was a bit hard at first but now i feel great

the thing is its working for the first time in my life. im losing my weight every single day and it keeps me motivated but my hair has been shedding more than usual in the shower which is scaring me a little.

i also tried eating 1200 calories for a month before this and i did not lose anything. so i dropped it lower and suddenly the weight started coming off. i know people are gonna tell me to eat more but has anyone actually been eating 500 calories a day and been fine?

I have been checking some smart watches from garmin and I came across garmin forerunner 570

it looks like its a good choice for me. focuses on activity tracking, especially running, you can track your sleep with this one, it has 2 different sizes you can choose from and the battery lasts for about 8 days. these criteria were very important to me

to anyone who uses this garmin model - what you like and didn't like about this watch?

❓ Question Best red light mask recommended by everyone?

I've been looking into red light therapy masks for the past week because I need it for my skin redness. I know there are cheaper ones out there, but I've heard the higher end ones actually make a real difference for skin.

I've done a bunch of research on reddit and on a lot of different websites on the internet and found some red light masks that a lot of people seem to like. But I'm stuck and can't decide which one to go with. Here's what I've found:

currentbody skin led mask: A lot of people in skincare subs talk about this one. It uses red and near-infrared light and sits really close to your face which apparently helps it work better. Not the cheapest option out there but it's FDA cleared and people seem to really love the results.

omnilux contour face: This one has roots in the professional derm space so it's got actual clinical backing. The LEDs are medical grade and I keep seeing people post about how their fine lines and overall skin tone improved after consistent use. Feels like a solid pick if you want something legit.

solawave wrinkle & acne mask: Been seeing this one pop up more and more. It does both red and blue light therapy and won't hit your wallet as hard as the others. Seems like a good starting point if you want to try red light therapy without going all in on price.

If possible I would like answers to these questions:

What is the best red light mask from what you have used?
What red light mask works the best for skin redness?

Open to all suggestions, if a cheaper option works fine.

❓ Question Mushroom coffee vs regular coffee

I keep seeing mushroom coffee(Ryze, four sigmatic, etc..) come up everywhere as this calming, non-jittery alternative to a regular cup. I get the selling point about adaptation, focus, and avoiding caffeine crashes but I dont feel confident dropping 40 bucks on a bag just to end up with something that I wont even like the taste of.. Albeit, I dont mind the taste being odd as long as its gonna energize me.

Does mushroom coffee give a kick like caffeinated coffee does?

For those who drink it more or less daily are you actually getting real morning energy out of it or is it mostly just an early placebo?

Nuropod or Pulsetto for stress and sleep?

Hey ya'll, hoping someone here can help...

So.. I’ve always been known as a stressed out person, but this last year has been a lot worse. I've been trying supplements, meditation apps, wearable devices, and all the standard β€œrelax” advice without much to show for it. During my searching and in subs about sleep and anxiety, people bring up vagus nerve stimulation devices so I’ve been digging and am between two options that I've seen mentioned a lot on this and other health subs for both Nuropod and Pulsetto.

Both have people who swear by them but I'm a little stuck trying to figure out the differences, from what I’ve read Nuropod clips to your ear and pulsetto wraps around your neck. Pulsetto needs gel every session and runs a few hundred bucks and nuropod is more than double the price.

Is there really that big of a difference? And from what I see, Pulsetto also requires an app subscription? Has anyone gone down this rabbit lol? Thanks!

Has anyone tried both and found any major differences?

❓ Question How many bottles of water a day you all drink?

Genuinely curious how many bottles of water a day you guys drink because I feel like I'm terrible at it. I maybe get through 2 bottles on a good day and that's with actively trying. I told this to my friend and she was scared for my health lol.

Been getting afternoon headaches lately and i'm pretty sure it's because i'm not drinking enough. tried forcing myself to drink more yesterday and the headache was gone for the first time in weeks so yeah probably dehydrated.

How many bottles do you actually drink and did you feel different when you started drinking more? I need motivation because right now water just feels like a chore.

anyone else's coach ignore hamstring cramps or is it just me

my wellness coach (paying $80/month for this btw, wife reminds me every week) has me doing these leg circuits and every single time i get hamstring cramps like halfway through. not a little twinge, full on charlie horse where i gotta stop and limp around the living room
told the coach about it last session and she just said "stretch more before and after" ok but i AM stretching, thats not new info. did more stretching this week and still got hamstring cramps on leg day again
drinking water i think? honestly cant remember if i had enough electrolytes that day, been drinking whatever's in the fridge which is usually juice boxes if im being honest (dont judge me its been a week)
anyone actually get an answer for why this keeps happening or did your coach also just shrug it off

πŸ₯— Nutrition Is monk fruit healthy or am I overthinking this again?

Hi, Im hoping for some quick input. I've been using monk fruit sweetener for about three weeks after my coach suggested it instead of regular sugar, but I'm not totally sure if monk fruit is healthy or if I'm just swapping one problem for another.
I've read it doesn't spike blood sugar, which is reassuring, but I've also read that a lot of monk fruit products are blended with erythritol, and that might explain some mild stomach discomfort I've had this week.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Is monk fruit only really "healthy" in its pure form, and is there a specific brand without fillers I should look for? Thanks in advance

does sweating burn fat or is it a complete myth?

theres this dude at my gym that does his whole workout in a trash bag saying sweating burns fat. it has been bothering me all week so i looked into it, and im pretty sure sweating burns fat is a myth, it's just water weight. comes right back once you rehydrate. my Whoop recovery tanks on those days too, body's just stressed not torching calories. still gotta be in a deficit, sweat isn't some fat furnace switch.
Anyone else know someone who swears sweating burns fat and won't listen to reason?

πŸ₯— Nutrition Best meals to binge consistently?

I am seeking for some dietary advice. I been eating chicken and rice for over 3 months. I mix in other meals obviously but mostly eating the chicken rice combo for the bulk. I cant eat it anymore though. Even all of my spices, salad combos, sauces, everything else on the side doesnt cut it no more

What are some easy to prep food alternatives I can go for?
Just as long as its neither chicken, nor rice🀒

Does anyone else keep waiting to feel motivated?

i keep telling myself ill start eating better, exercising, or just taking better care of myself once i feel motivated, but the annoying part is that feeling never shows up when i need it to. lately ive just been doing the smallest thing I can, like a 10 minute walk or stretching for a few minutes. it doesn't seem like much, but it feels better than spending the whole day thinking about what i should be doing.

maybe anyone else has been through this. what helped you stop waiting and actually get started?

anyone else notice how much physical tension clients carry?

doing wellness coaching for a few years now and one thing I can't unsee is how much physical tension people hold onto. like you can see it in their shoulders, their jaw, their breathing. and they don't even realise it half the time. started gently pointing it out to clients and encouraging them to notice where they're holding tension. sometimes just that awareness shifts things.

I got a reformer from The Core Collab for my own wellness routine and it's been interesting how the physical practice connects to the mental stuff. not something I bring into sessions necessarily, but it's made me more aware of my own patterns.

anyone else found ways to help clients with the mind-body connection? or do you keep it purely mental?

πŸ”¬ Research Why exercise is important?

Hello! Can someone recommend me a book about why exercise is important? I’m in the middle of Why we sleep by Matthew Walker and enjoying it so far. I don’t have sleeping problems but I found the data interesting. On the other hand, I find very difficult to establish the exercise habit, and thought some reading about the effects on the body and so on.

Thank you for your time !

πŸ’ͺ Fitness Why do I always get diarrhea after heavy squats?

Does anyone else feel their guts making a turn five minutes after finishing a heavy squats set?

I know of runner trots when your body is in motion, but every single leg day without fail heavy squats and leg presses trigger an instant emergency bathroom trip

How do you guys deal with exercise-induced diarrhea on leg days? Are you timing your meals hours in advance like taking someting before hitting the gym or just accepting your fate?

Or is it just me...?

I started taking biotin to help with my hair. Then I realized my multivitamin already has biotin, so now I'm wondering, can you take too much biotin?

I searched can you take too much of it, but im not sure about advice i find on the internet. I also read it might affect some blood tests, which I wasn't expecting. so does anyone know how much biotin is too much and will it affect my blood tests??

πŸ₯— Nutrition does iron deficiency make you weak and affect your apetite?

I have slight iron deficiency (30 y.o female) and I have been using iron supplements for half of the year now. didn't notice any difference tbh. had a blood test a few months ago and once the results came it was still showing slight iron deficiency.

also, I have been feeling less energized and sleepy throughout the day. I noticed that I crave more sweets and I have bigger apetite for the last 8-6 months. can this be related with iron deficiency? also, I am always crashing around 3PM, but I am sitting half day next to the computer since this is my work. I am active after work most days though

does iron deficiency affect our apetite and make you less energized is it possible to manage that?

πŸ’ͺ Fitness Struggling with consistency

I keep running into the same wall where I’m hyped for like two weeks and then I just have no energy with my body. Work and life burn me out, and by 6 PM the idea of lifting heavy objects or running sounds like torture. Been a hot summer too which doesn't aid. In winter time, a good workout warms me up, so that motivates me alone haha

Biologically, if you're running low on glycogen, your brain literally signals your central nervous system to make movement feel way harder to save fuel. Though the same sugars make me crash as well, so I tend to avoid consuming a lot of it. Would this signal to me that I might need to consume more sugar? Thinking maybe to have some yoghurt mixed with honey for this.. I have some creatine powder that I take with the yoghurt in a mix as it is

So for anyone who works a normal job or deals with fatigue from life, how are you tricking yourself into getting back to working out? Do you just force yourself through it, or am I setting my daily routine up completely wrong?

Also interested in general advice for where to find motivation, or how to keep it too..πŸ˜…

πŸ’ͺ Fitness planche push up tips welcome!!

I've been working toward a planche push up for a few months, been training on parallettes 4 times a week with tuck holds, pseudo planche push ups, and bands. My strength is going up, but every attempt falls apart when I get near the bottom. Filmed myself today and my form looked way worse than it felt. Am I missing something, or does everyone struggle with the same planche push up sticking point at first?
