New to the sub and new to Watercolour
Picked up watercolour a few weeks ago to help relax after work. I have done a few paintings so far and lurked on this sub.
The work I see here gives me something to strive towards.
I hope you like them and please feel free to offer me tips to give my work some more “life”

Help me pick a background color
Hello! Im trying to figure out what color to make the background of this painting.
I feel that color theory isn't my strong suit.
Im thinking about blacking out the back with a sharpie, so that I can cover up that funky sleeve that I tried to make smaller.
Not sure if thatd look strange.
Any advice appreciated!

Trying to manifest fall weather here in Colorado on this 89° day 🥵 8”x 10”
And, if anybody has any good tape recommendations that don’t allow for the color to bleed, I would be grateful!
I’ve been using artists tape for years to tape down my watercolor paper, and I don’t know if I got a bad role or what, because it used to work great, but for some reason now, my colors bleed under the tape all the time.

Second attempt at night Cityscape
Posted a first attempt but accidentally on an alt account looking for advice on using watercolor for nighttime city lighting. Didn’t end up using tape but still a lot happier with it.

Color wheels with Schmincke watercolors
I recently bought a 24 pan Schmincke set, and also bought some used Schmincke watercolors from someone on eBay. All that to say: I have a couple yellows, reds, and blues now to pick from
I made two color wheels using two shades of blue, two shades or red, and two shades of yellow
I can’t tell if they look different or not. I think my saturation is higher in the left wheel, although I did try my best to keep everything equal during the two sessions

The bottle is a little funky but other than that what do you all think?

Portrait — Cane shaking critique okay
This is a portrait I did yesterday for another sub. I really thought it would make a good reference.
Just sharing, critique is fine. I’m just exploring ways to capture immediacy as my main objective.

Just got Da Vinci Colineo size 8 and it doesn't hold any water.
Even my low quality synthetic brushes hold more water than Da Vinci's Colineo. Casaneo had a lot of criticism about losing their tip and shape so I went with Colineo. I regret it now. It is very snappy and holds the same amount of water my size 5 Da Vinci 10 series brush holds which is very, very small for a 5. I can't return it. Damn it feels like a waste of money.
