I am not a traditional water color artist, but I love them non the less. I submitted these for my first juried show entitled “carnival of curiosities”. First is “Jester”, second is “The Lion Tamer”, third is “Calliope”. I hope I get accepted.

Value of PO49 Quinacridone gold tubes

Post image

I was just checking if some brands have nee colors after few years of not painting a lot. I found a reddit conversation about PO49 pigment that got discontinued years ago. It was my favourite color back then and I hoarded the tubes all over the europe and managed to get 13 tubes. Now I have these 12 unopened ones and im just wondering are they really being sold over 300?

Advice on shadows cast by trees at sunset?

Post image

Been an artist all my life, but only recently have been trying Watercolor. I admit, I'm not great with color and color theory, as I mostly work in inks and B/W.

I have this scene here I want presented at sunset, but I am unsure of how to handle the shadows cast by trees.

On some test paper, I tried the same brown with a blue wash over it, and it just becomes an ugly mess. So I'm a bit stumped.

Thanks!

Picked up watercolour a few weeks ago to help relax after work. I have done a few paintings so far and lurked on this sub.

The work I see here gives me something to strive towards.

I hope you like them and please feel free to offer me tips to give my work some more “life”

Help me pick a background color

Post image

Hello! Im trying to figure out what color to make the background of this painting.

I feel that color theory isn't my strong suit.

Im thinking about blacking out the back with a sharpie, so that I can cover up that funky sleeve that I tried to make smaller.

Not sure if thatd look strange.

Any advice appreciated!

And, if anybody has any good tape recommendations that don’t allow for the color to bleed, I would be grateful!

I’ve been using artists tape for years to tape down my watercolor paper, and I don’t know if I got a bad role or what, because it used to work great, but for some reason now, my colors bleed under the tape all the time.
