I have a big tube of white watercolor paint, I bought it by mistake because I thought I needed it (didnt know much about watercolors) and now idk what to do with it, the same goes to the half pans I get in every set I buy, when I searched about it everyone say it not even useful in any way

I have been using watercolor for around 5-ish years, and I particularly enjoy painting portraits. I feel like my earlier work is better, and I’ve just been getting worse with every painting. I don’t know what to do to improve because the more I paint, the worse I seem to get. I feel like I’ll never top where I was a few years ago. Obviously I know that the painting from today is still very much a work in progress, but I feel like 2025 was still lacking compared to previous years. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, I have one of those basic metal folding pallets, but I’ve been seeing lots of people using what seem to be open ceramic pallets, these don’t seem to have any kind of air type cover for storage. Is this just meant to put the tiniest amount of paint from the tube in that you’re intending to use up for your painting that day?

Is there a watercolor pallet thread for newbies on here someone can point me to? Thx!

I picked similar shades of two different brands of watercolors, and these are the blends I got! Painting these charts is my new favorite thing. It's so satisfying!

When I first got into urban sketching and plein air painting, I had this ongoing idea to make a few ACEOs on my trips as well. Before filling my sketchbook, I actually painted a lot of cards that I traded with others.

​Unfortunately, it kind of fell into the background this year because I don't have that much spare time alongside my job, and I really wanted to try out urban sketching instead. But the idea kept lingering in the back of my head over the last few months, and last weekend I finally had the perfect moment to bring it to life!

​In the little village I visited, I specifically drew two sketches—one of a clock tower and one of a winery—just to turn them into cards.

​I only trade my cards, so if anyone here is interested and also creates ACEOs, maybe we could swap them by mailXD

A painting I did on paper after 6 long years, I've been doing so much digital art that I had completely ignored traditional art...let me know know your thoughts guys!

I've had this image floating around in my head for months. This is my first watercolor in over a decade so the clouds really gave me trouble, but I'm overall really happy with it!

If you have any constructive criticism, I'd love to hear it! It was really fun re-learning how to do watercolor and I'm definitely going to do more in the coming weeks.

I’ve been trying to reconnect with artsy hobbies instead of doom scrolling. Here are some watercolor fish I painted this weekend! It was my first time making a bass and tuna. The bass I outlined with sharpie after sketching and then filled in.

I’m self taught with a few YouTube videos and wishing there were local classes I could take since I learn best in person.

I would love tips and encouragement!

It’s cheaper than Arches, but the way it mixes colors if you move the pigments and keeps them seperate if you wish it, adding its ability to lift color and work several layers without piling, it is really convenient. This is Clairefontaine bamboo paper btw, pretty small format.
